Uncle Tu Mee – 15/8/22 – My diary in the darkness

(MoeMaKa) August 17th 2022

I can’t sleep all night.

I fell asleep around 5:00 in the morning.

When I woke up, it was after 10:00 am.

It’s been a year since an old man who lived in front of my house died of Covid-19.

His daughter came and donated a package of butter rice to my house. Four members of my family share our breakfast.

After the guest inspection about 3 weeks ago, the relationship between the neighbors has become more friendly and warm. They exchanged phone numbers with each other and to protect thieves and robbery’s attacks. They ask that they call and alert  house by  house , If the situation is unusual.

The crops and vegetables produced by each yard are distributed from house to house.

At the moment, they cannot buy meat and fish, and the prices of vegetables are rising. So the receiving housewives are very happy. But at the same time, they are watching and suspicious of each other as to who the regime’s spy is.

Yesterday, Ko Ba Thun, one of my friends  who came back from Mandalay told me on the phone. Gas stations in Mandalay have been closed. He also had to buy and use water bottle which is filled with gasoline sold along the side of the road,

Downtown Yangon is clear, no cars, no traffic.

Photographer Ko Khin Maung Win posted to Facebook a photo of Su Lay main road without cars. Yangon is silent and like a ghost city.

After showing that photo, a friend of mine said that the only person in the world who can solve traffic jams the best and fastest is the military dictator in Myanmar. He joked that they should be honored in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The daughter of a retired general that I know quickly sold out a plot of land in the new city for 150,000,000,000. It is known that all their properties in other places are being sold quickly at bargain prices. It is known that they are preparing to go to a third country by quickly exchanging the proceeds from the sale.

This evening, the news that Aung San Suu Kyi’s prison sentence has been extended to 6 years for the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation case  was posted on social media.

Gasoline price is around 2500 kyat per gallon.

The price of rice is around 9,000,000 kyat per bag

Around 3000 kyat per dollar.

Today’s dinner is a half-fried egg, and chicken bone soup mixed with Dregea volubilis leaves which are growing on my fence.
