In Rangoon, especially around Inya Lake and private lanes, it was where most packed with festive-goers and also where there’s crowds, there’s garbage-collectors to make their day from recyclable cans and bottles.

Sources told MoeMaKa that Burmese junta was planning their Naypyidaw-Thingyan to outdo other city and town in Burma so that Burmese city council and municipals officials had to play low celebrating their water festival. Burmese businesses and community groups were on their own building water throwing stages and shows packed with participants and onlookers. Some told that most crowded water throwing stages were around “Inyar Lake” suburban of Rangoon.

It was learnt that this year would be 7th annual event for Burmese living in Colorado to celebrate Burmese “Thingyan”, traditional New year – water festival. For this year 2009, they had included some special features on top of water throwing event such that there would be Burmese cultural show and dance, singing contest and traditional Burmese food fair.

Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the historic place for Burmese Buddhist in Rangoon was in the process on gold platting around its structure as its annual maintenance and traditional charity work and it was learnt that the schedule would be speeding up to finish before monsoon come in the month of May.

Hanthawaddy U Win Tin, one of the opposition leader and high ranking official of NLD party, marked his 79th birthday first time outside of the prison after release from 19 years jail terms.
It was hosted by his close former newspaper colleges and friends at one small restaurant in KyiMyinDine Township, Rangoon. 30 of his close friends attended his private birthday party as a reunion with old friends.
He did not make any birthday speech at the event and he told them that all the things he wanted to talk were said through radio program outside of Burma. It was seen as reunion party with old friends chatting of good old days and memories. The event started around 4:30 pm and ended at 7:30 pm while military intelligence persons were heavily present and closely monitoring the occasion, some witnesses told MoeMaKa.

While opposition media were reporting that NLD party was being cut off communication channel and abused by Burmese regime supported thugs, they however managed to reopen party office on 8th March 2009 in KonChanKone Township battered badly by Cyclone Nargis back in May 2008. In the reported photos, among the party township organizers, some prominent leaders from the Rangoon’s headquarter such as U Win Tin, Dr Win Naing, U Ba Swe and Dr Myo Aung were present.
