On October 11, military forces launched drone and artillery attacks toward the Nam Pha Naung area before advancing into Three-Mile Village. Fighting subsequently broke out between junta troops and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces.

After suffering losses, the military column reportedly withdrew around 3:30 p.m. on October 12. During its retreat, soldiers allegedly set fire to the KBC church building and several civilian homes in Shwe Pyi Thar Ward.

The military has also been reinforcing its troop presence in Kachin State, contributing to increasingly intense fighting across the region.

## 3. Arakan Army Takes Full Control of Nga Pyi Island and Captures Additional Military Outposts Near Sittwe

m.CDM — October 14

The Arakan Army (AA) has reportedly secured complete control of Nga Pyi Island in Wirathani (Pauktaw) Township, Rakhine State, despite a major offensive launched by Myanmar’s military.

Beginning October 7, junta forces reportedly deployed nine naval vessels, heavy artillery and aircraft in an attempt to capture the island. However, the offensive failed, and military forces withdrew after suffering significant losses.

Local sources said fighting had subsided since October 13 and that the AA maintained full control of the island as of October 14.

Nga Pyi Island occupies a strategically important location near the boundaries of Sittwe, Pauktaw and Ponnagyun townships. It is approximately one and a half miles from the Shwe Min Gan naval base in Sittwe.

While junta forces were concentrating their offensive on Nga Pyi Island, the AA also reportedly captured several additional military security outposts in Sittwe Township.

## 4. Myanmar Military Conducted 650 Airstrikes in September, Nearly Half Targeting Kachin State

m.CDM — October 14

Myanmar’s military carried out 650 airstrikes during September 2026, with Kachin State receiving the largest share of the attacks, according to a report by Myanmar Defense and Security Institute (MDSI).

MDSI documented 175 separate aerial attack incidents involving a total of 650 strikes, representing a significant increase from August.

Kachin State accounted for 32 aerial attack incidents but experienced 312 individual strikes, representing approximately 48 percent of the nationwide total.

Civilian locations in Rakhine State, Sagaing Region, Magway Region and Karen State were also heavily targeted. MDSI reported 359 civilian casualties in these areas, accounting for approximately 87 percent of the casualties recorded in the relevant category.

According to the report, the military used fighter jets to attack residential villages, religious buildings, educational facilities, displacement camps and infrastructure, in addition to military targets.

Weapons reportedly included unguided high-explosive bombs, 250-pound and 300-pound bombs, and cluster munitions.

The military also employed suicide drones and repeated bombing operations against the same locations.

MDSI reported that 163 civilians, including women and children, were killed and another 249 injured during September. The combined number of civilian deaths and injuries was nearly twice the figure recorded in August.

The report also highlighted a targeted aerial attack against a Special Regional Military Command important to the National Unity Government, involving fighter aircraft operating from Naypyidaw and Hmawbi air bases.

MDSI warned that the military’s growing ability to conduct intelligence-driven, real-time airstrikes poses serious security challenges for revolutionary forces.

The organization recommended that resistance groups identify vulnerabilities and strengthen their intelligence protection, communications security and operational security procedures.

In a separate incident, a car bomb exploded in central Muse, northern Shan State, on October 12.
