“28th Nov 2024 – Radio NUG: Evening Resistance News”

Greetings, everyone. Starting now, we will be presenting Radio NUG’s evening Resistance news for November 28, 2024.

1. Troops from the Myanmar Army’s Battalions 346 and 544 Surrender to the Arakan Army (AA) in Taungup

News reports indicate that soldiers from the Myanmar Army’s Battalions 346 and 544, based in Taungup, Rakhine State, have surrendered to the Arakan Army (AA) under a white flag. Sources reveal that these battalions, under the No. 5 Military Operations Command headquartered in Taungup, laid down their weapons. Consequently, the AA is reported to have taken control of Taungup.

Local sources state that due to a shortage of supplies, some soldiers chose to surrender while others continue to resist, resulting in ongoing clashes. The estimated force strength of the battalions in the region is over 700 soldiers, including supporting units such as logistics, de-mining, and communications teams.

Western News, citing these sources, reports that since October 30, the intense fighting in Taungup has led to a lack of reinforcements or resupply from the Myanmar Army, aside from airstrikes. Analysts believe this may have prompted the recent wave of surrenders.

Although reports claim that officers and families surrendered to the AA on Myanmar’s National Day, November 25, no official statement has been made by the AA as of November 28.

2. Kachin Minister for Ethnic Affairs Passes Away on the Frontlines

After the capture of Lansai village in Sawlaw Township, U Chan Zin Zi fell ill due to physical exhaustion and passed away while receiving treatment. His commitment to the frontline and his role as a leader exemplified his dedication to his people. Born in 1973, he was 51 years old at the time of his passing.

U Chan Zin Zi had previously served as an ethnic affairs minister after winning the 2020 elections. Post-military coup, he played a key role as a senior committee member in the KPF.
