1. Application for an Arrest Warrant Against Min Aung Hlaing Filed at ICC, Highlighted as Global Top News

The news about the application for an arrest warrant for Myanmar’s coup leader, Min Aung Hlaing, at the International Criminal Court (ICC), which includes 125 member countries, has been featured as global top news by major international media outlets.

This stems from evident crimes against humanity related to the treatment of Rohingya people in Rakhine State. On November 27, ICC Prosecutor Karim A. A. Khan KC filed the application, bringing this issue to the forefront of international attention.

Major outlets such as CNN, Reuters, AP, AFP, and BBC have reported it as a headline story. Articles analyzing Min Aung Hlaing’s profile have also been published, including in The New York Times. Similarly, The Guardian and Al Jazeera have extensively covered his coup, the genocide of Rohingya, and crimes against humanity.

Prominent journalist Igor Blazevic described Min Aung Hlaing as a “mass murderer” and “disguised dictator,” stating he is now facing the consequences of his actions. On November 28, Human Rights Minister U Aung Myo Min stated via social media that the ICC Prosecutor’s application for an arrest warrant against Min Aung Hlaing is a significant step. This action is based on evidence of atrocities committed against Rohingya near the Myanmar-Bangladesh border.

Minister Aung Myo Min emphasized the NUG’s intent to collaborate with international entities to ensure justice. He highlighted that effective prosecutions would provide hope and encouragement for the people of Myanmar.


3. Myanmar Junta Recognized as the World’s Worst Jailer of Journalists

The U.S. Embassy in Yangon declared Myanmar’s military junta the world’s worst jailer of journalists on November 28, 2024.

Since the February 2021 coup, 172 journalists have been detained, including 144 men and 28 women, as of August 2024. Nearly 87% of media organizations in Myanmar have been affected by the junta’s repression. Female journalists also face significant threats, including harassment and imprisonment.
