Burmese Newspaper Readers see Conspiracy in Daw Suu’s Trial

Some Burmese were skeptical on yesterday’s closed door trial of Daw Suu, sources told. They were more outraged when they read the news of the court room’s procession of 20^th May on yesterday’s state run media.

Some readers were upset when the junta’s press reported that the prosecuting lawyers raised the fact on the two woman dresses with head hoods similar to Muslim woman dress confiscated by the police from the American intruder swam from the Inya Lake to Daw’s Suu residence. It was followed by the confirmation from the Police Officer, Tin Zaw Tun that if the dresses were put on with the sun glasses as demonstrated by the prosecuting lawyer, he won’t be able to recognized anyone inside the dress.

“Now the government is trying to frame Daw Suu and her colleagues. They were trying to accuse that she was planning to run away from the house arrest by disguising herself with the help of this foreigner. It is a wicked evil plot.”

“Child Aid Foundation – Myanmar” released updated list of children and donors as of May 19^th, 2009

“Child Aid Foundation – Myanmar”, a charity aid group supporting basic and educational need to orphans left by Nargis Storm in the Delta of May 2008 had recently updated list of children and donors, totaling of 560 parentless children. It was now requesting annual donation and pledge from all the donors for each designated children for the year 2009.

The foundation has started its operation since May 2008 when Nargis storm hit Delta which left almost 2 millions Burmese homeless. It raised funds and did aid work providing shelters, foods, medical and social care with the guidance of Burmese Buddhist monks from various monasteries local and abroad namely, Ngar Gyan Pyan Monastery, Rangoon, Metta Nanda Viraha Monastery, California, USA and U Kusala Monastery, London, UK. It managed to raised fund and charity from Burmese and non-Burmese from international community. Later it focused on supporting orphans from Nargis disaster and managed to aid basic necessity needs to 560 children so far. It provided monthly financial support of US$ 10.00 for each child to care-taker immediate family, friends or sheltering monasteries. The donors chose any child from the list as their recipient of their donation per month or per year basic.

3 Monks fled to border after DKBA, Karen Guerrilla Group forced them to become Vegetarians

3 Burmese monks fled to Thai-Burma border after Democratic Karen Buddhist Army, stationed in Pai Kyon Township of Karen State, called for Buddhist Monks to become vegetarians.

According to Residence Sayadaw, U Kovida, Bo Pa Nwee, a commander of troop no. 999 of DKBA, issued an order before Thingyan Festival that all monks staying in Pai Kyone Township must eat vegetables.

“They forced us to go veggie. If we could not follow, we have to leave. That is why we left our place” said U Kovida.

Burmese Brands Banned in Mae La Refugee Camp at Thai-Burma Border

            The authority from Mae La Refugee Camp at Thai-Burma border issued an advisory not to trade or use some Burmese brands and products starting from yesterday.

            Among the banned products, some of them were kitten appliances, Burmese traditional medicines, food-coloring powders, dried tea leaf and tea leave salad. It was announced over loud speakers that if not followed, they would be prosecuted.

U Pain Bridge, one of the favorite spot of Mandalay’s Thingyan festival goers, was found jammed packed with visitors all over during the holidays of Thingyan Water Festival. Especially under bridge, visitors found themselves enjoying food at make-shift temporary “floating” restaurants. The stall were selling coconut juice, Beer-like Palm liquor, Beers, all kind of hard liquors and variety of Burmese traditional snacks and salads.

Monsoon Storm approaching “Sitwe”, west cost of Burma

Around this time in past last year 2008, there was news of storm approaching “Sittwe”, a small city in west coast of Burma before Nargis storm hit lower Burma in May 2008. Again right now, a monsoon storm named “Bijli”, brewed in India Ocean, crossing Bay of Bengal and approaching towards Sittwe town in Rakhine coastal region, west cost of Burma. According to one weather website, it was said that it would be reaching inland with 60 to 80 mph wind speed causing high tide at the coast line on April 17^th and 18^th.

Burmese Internet Slower than ever

Burmese internet service which was not really fast in the first place would be slower than ever until this coming Friday notified by the authority, sources told MoeMaKa.

Since March 21^st, Burmese teleport had been running maintenance works on under-ground fiber optic cable call SEA-ME-WE 3 near Phyar Pon town in Irrawaddy region. Due to the work, the internet speed was slowed down significantly in Burma and according to their first notice; the operation would be back to normal in 25^th March. However, more notices were issued later and the last notice said it would be fine not later than April 17^th.
