Burmese Opposition Party, NLD marked 62nd Anniversary of Burma’s Martyrs Day at its headquarter in Rangoon

         In Rangoon, Burma, at Shwegondaing Township, on 19th July 2009, under heavily guarded security forces and threats from the plain-clothes thugs backed by the Burmese regime, NLD, Burmese opposition political party hold its ceremony to honor 62nd Anniversary of Burma’s Martyrs Day which the ruling Generals did not openly marked as state-ceremony. Most of the party members, some former political prisoners and current political prisoners’ family members were seen attending the party’s ceremony together with invited diplomats and guests.

         Some news sources told that some Burmese were detained briefly at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum which was located couple of miles near the NLD headquarter by the Regime’s police when they were seen marching towards the Mausoleum to pay their respect.

         NLD had issued the statement no. 20/07/09 calling the Burmese regime to recall the 2008 Burmese constitution  fabricated  unjustly by the Junta. They had urged to rewrite the constitution accordingly with the people’s representatives won in 1990 Election which never been recognized by the junta. They had stated that after meeting with condition then Burma would be able to carry on to become free and fair democratic nation.
