First:
- Criticism grows over statements by four Western embassies in Yangon that referred to “U Win Myint” instead of “President U Win Myint”
m.CDM, April 22, 2026
Strong criticism has emerged after the embassies of the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Norway in Yangon issued statements welcoming the release of political prisoners but referred to President U Win Myint simply as “U Win Myint,” without using his presidential title.
In its statement, the U.S. Embassy wrote: “We welcome reports of the release of political prisoners, including U Win Myint and Ma Shin Devi, during the Myanmar New Year period.”
Regarding that wording, members of the public strongly responded, saying: “If you dare, write ‘President U Win Myint.’ If you do not dare, then write nothing at all. Do not insult the people.” They pointed out that U Win Myint is Myanmar’s legitimately elected president.
Another member of the public also criticized the U.S. government’s position on Myanmar, noting that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was not mentioned by name and was referred to only as one of the “political prisoners,” and that words such as “peace” and “stability” were used instead of terms like “democracy” and “federalism.”
Likewise, statements from the British, Australian, and Norwegian embassies included calls for the immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who remains detained, but they all similarly referred to the released President U Win Myint only as “U Win Myint.”
Revolutionary forces and members of the public have pointed out that failing to formally recognize a president who was lawfully elected by the people in the 2020 general election with the title “President” amounts to indirectly recognizing the illegitimate military junta.

- SCEF says it welcomes President U Win Myint’s return to his family and will continue efforts for the release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
m.CDM, April 22, 2026
The Steering Council for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF) issued a statement on April 22 saying it welcomed President U Win Myint’s return to his family and would continue striving for the release of all remaining political prisoners.
According to the statement, President U Win Myint, who was unlawfully arrested and imprisoned on February 1, 2021 while serving in office, was reunited with his family on April 17, 2026 after more than five years in detention.
SCEF said it shares the joy of the president’s family and of the people of Myanmar over his return.
It also expressed wishes for the president’s continued good physical and mental health, and for him to be able to continue serving the interests of the country and its people in safety.
In addition, SCEF pledged to continue working with the entire ethnic public to secure the unconditional and immediate release of all political prisoners, including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who remains unjustly detained.

- Young PDF members allegedly deceived by the terrorist military are being detained in Pakokku Prison
m.CDM, April 22
Ko Aung Maung of Southern YSO PDF said that young PDF members who were deceived by the terrorist military are currently being detained in Pakokku Prison.
He made the remarks in a statement released on the evening of April 22 regarding conditions inside Pakokku Prison.
According to the statement, many civilians have already been unjustly detained in Pakokku Prison, including people from Pakokku District accused of having ties to People’s Defense Force groups.
It said that many individuals who entered military-run programs known as “entering the light” or “entering the dark,” after being misled by the military, were later arrested and sent to Pakokku Prison. Southern YSO PDF said this based on testimony from a former prisoner who had secured release by paying money.
According to that former prisoner, some of those who surrendered to the military were first welcomed at receptions in Taunggyi and Mandalay and allowed to stay at their homes for a period under surveillance.
After that, they reportedly came under the control of security forces and were eventually sent to prison.
Pakokku Prison is said to hold around 700 inmates ranging in age from 17 to over 70. Most are reportedly people facing false accusations, and some entire families have also been arrested.
The former prisoner also said that some inmates at Pakokku Prison have been sentenced under unjust charges to prison terms ranging from 10 to 50 years. CDM staff members have reportedly been arrested during registration checks while traveling and sentenced to more than five years, while pregnant women who were falsely accused and sentenced to more than 40 years have had to give birth and live with their children inside the prison.
For that reason, Southern YSO PDF spokesperson Ko Aung Maung urged young people using the PDF name who had been deceived by the junta to turn back from the wrong path and return to the right one.

- Entire villages fleeing in Launglon due to junta column and arson; one civilian killed in airstrikes on Shwebo and Kyauktaw
m.CDM, April 22, 2026
It has been reported that residents in Launglon Township and Dawei Township in Tanintharyi Region are fleeing their villages en masse because junta troops have entered the areas and set fires.
At around 3 a.m. on April 22, a junta column of more than 100 troops advanced from Launglon town toward Nhyin Maw village. Because they were occupying civilian homes, villagers had to flee the entire village to safer places.
In addition, junta troops based in Launglon reportedly fired heavy weapons indiscriminately toward villages, while soldiers from the Maung Ma Yaw gate in Dawei Township set forest fires near Dawei Technological University and Maung Ma Yaw village.
The fires reportedly spread to nearby civilian homes, destroying more than 10 houses.
The junta also carried out aerial bombings in Shwebo Township in Sagaing Region and Kyauktaw Township in Rakhine State, reportedly killing one woman.
On the night of April 21, the junta dropped four bombs on Zin Gyi Kone, where displaced civilians from the western part of Shwebo Township were sheltering.
There had been no fighting, and the bombing was reportedly deliberate. A woman in her 50s was killed on the spot, and three others were injured.
Similarly, at around 2 p.m. on April 22, fighter jets and Y-12 aircraft dropped many bombs around Pi Chaung, Aka Taung, and We Gyi Daunt villages in Kyauktaw Township.
Because civilian-populated areas are being targeted, local residents are said to be deeply worried and frightened, though the casualty figures there have not yet been confirmed.

The TYK Guerrilla Force announced on April 22 that one police officer was killed and one rifle plus some ammunition were seized in an attack on junta forces stationed in Thayetkan Pyu Saw Htee village in the southern part of Myaing Township, Magway Region.
The statement referred to an attack on a junta patrol about 300 meters from Thayetkan village at around 4 p.m. on April 20.
“We did not know how many troops they had with them, so we chose to attack with small arms and landmines. When we detonated the mine, we saw one of them fall. Since they did not return fire, we moved in to clear the area and found one body,” the TYK Guerrilla Force said.
A G3 rifle, two magazines, and ammunition were seized in the attack, but the weapon and magazines were damaged by the force of the explosion.

- Yae Belu Battalion attacks Light Infantry Battalion 583 in Ye Township; casualties reported, while warning issued not to use some roads in Tanintharyi amid rising military tension
m.CDM, April 22, 2026
According to the Yae Belu group, Light Infantry Battalion 583, based in Kyaung Ywa in Ye Township, Mon State, was attacked and junta forces suffered casualties.
At around 8 a.m. on April 22, the battalion, which reportedly had around 100 junta troops, was attacked with gunfire. Casualties were reported, though the exact number was still under investigation.
The Yae Belu Battalion said it carried out the attack and was able to withdraw successfully without losses.
Meanwhile, in Tanintharyi Township, People’s Defense Forces said junta troops had deployed and taken positions in Banlaw, 5 Mile, 6 Mile, and Htontaung villages along the Bodhi Bank–Nyaungpinkwin village road.
Because of these military preparations, clashes could break out at any time, and there is also a risk of aerial attacks using drones and aircraft, Myeik District Battalion 2 warned.
Due to the heightened military tension, residents have been urged not to use the Bodhi Bank–Nyaungpinkwin road at all, and people living along that route have been advised to relocate to safer places as quickly as possible.

- KIA indefinitely closes the Hpakant–Nantyar–Karmaing road
m.CDM, April 22
Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Battalion 6 announced that the Hpakant–Karmaing–Nantyar road section would be closed indefinitely starting April 22 because enemy military forces had begun carrying out military movements.
The announcement, dated April 21, said that beginning April 22 the road would be temporarily closed to all public travel, including both large and small vehicles.
Local sources said the closure may be connected to the junta reinforcing troops toward the Hpakant area via the Hpakant–Karmaing road beginning on April 7.
According to those local sources, because the military has been sending reinforcements toward Hpakant through the Hpakant–Karmaing–Nantyar road, clashes with KIA-led allied forces could break out at any time.
For that reason, local revolutionary forces have also urged the public not to use the Hpakant–Karmaing–Nantyar road.
