The military junta announced on the evening of April 30 that detained State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been transferred to serve the remainder of her sentence under house arrest at a designated residence.
According to the junta, the transfer was carried out on humanitarian grounds to mark the full moon day of Kasone (Buddha Day), moving her from Naypyidaw Prison.
They cited Section 401(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, stating she will continue serving her remaining sentence at home, though the exact location was not disclosed.
State-controlled MRTV footage showed her wearing a white blouse and a dark blue patterned longyi.
This announcement comes amid widespread public demands, including from her son Ko Htein Lin, for proof that she is alive. It also follows calls from ASEAN for her release, as well as recent visits and statements by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Thailand’s foreign minister.
