Myanmar Spring Chronicle – June 24 Scenes

MoeMaKa   June 25 2022

Departure at June 22

After Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was transferred to Nay Pyi Taw Prison on June 22. Some people in Myanmar expressed that it was the most grievous day for Myanmar people. The military council has sentenced NLD party leader, who won the 2015 and 2020 elections, to several years in prison by setting up various charges. The tradition of keeping Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest was abandoned and she was kept at Nay Pyi Taw Prison. Most  leaders from the NLD party were also arrested, detained and charged. Some are killed in interrogations. The military’s treatment towards the NLD and its party members, who have been fighting since the 1988 uprising with the overwhelming support of the people, has been turned another dark corner.

The NLD party has always stood firmly as a legitimate party and it has been calling for recognition of the 2020 election, convening of parliament and the release of all political prisoners. As for the NLD party itself, it has maintained a neutral relationship with the organizations evolved during the Spring Revolution like CRPH, NUG and NUCC. The party said it has no room to express the opinion and it is considered as the free choice of the party members. The party is seemed to choose a safe way to face the military council while Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the people’s national leader, has been charged, sentenced to imprisonment and then transferred to prison.

The Spring Revolutionary Forces had already chosen armed revolution, drafting a new constitution and the establishment of a Federal Democratic Union. The military junta is also trying to demolish the armed spring revolution cruelly. The military has mastered in defeating oppositions since  Myanmar independence. Its tactics, Delaying, Coercion, Holding Hostages, Cornering, Blockage and Uprooting are carried out in war-raging areas. Evidence shows that all lackeys of the military council provided with arms are willing to commit arbitrary arrests and torture. It has already shown that the military council will not spare any of its opponents. Just like that on the political front, it can be said that the junta is cleverly using all tactics on all opponents. The junta is chocking step by step not only on Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, other political parties and forces on the ground but also in  dealing with neighboring countries. Now Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, a political figure, respected by everyone is imprisoned. It can be said that finding the solution and making alliances by dialogue and compromise are all gone.

In the other word, in addition to the official annulment of the 2020 election results, it is proven clearly that the military junta can manipulate political forces and leaders staying on the ground like water in their hands. In Myanmar, if Ludu Daw Amar, Ludu Sein Win and Hantharwady U Win Tin were still alive, they would strongly criticize the junta’s actions. Now, the NLD, which has not clearly identified itself as the leader, could not respond strongly.

It is like the forces and leaders on the ground have to be laying low under this situations and keeping quiet accordingly at the moment. The people who earn a living under the control of the junta have to swallow the resentment and face the current situation with their heads down.

Private journals that are published officially at home also know well that they have to censor themselves by not mentioning the Spring Revolution and crimes perpetrated by the junta directly on their papers. It can be said that as there is no rule of law and justice under the junta regime, there is no guarantee for unarmed citizens, activists and forces under armed underlings of the junta.

June 22 was the departure point for the Myanmar people. The military junta has completely removed Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who had tried her best , negotiated , compromised and reconciled with the military regime and also on the political front, she had led a way to limit the junta’s political role step by step. It is the departure point where to choose fight or submit. One route is escalating abolition of the dictatorship with defensive armed revolution. The other route is to live quietly in silent and fear without opposing the military regime and accept what they give under the name of the military’s democracy.
