6. KNDF reorganizes battalions into 5 military regions in Karenni and southern Shan

m.CDM, April 8, 2026
It has been reported that, for military necessity, the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) has designated five military regions across Karenni State and southern Shan State and compactly reorganized its battalions.
KNDF said the reorganization is a strategic decision intended to make command and control faster and more precise, improve the quality and effectiveness of the forces, and implement military operations more effectively.
Battalions from adjacent areas were reportedly merged more compactly and restructured under the five new military regions.
As part of this reform, KNDF Battalion 5 and Battalion 8 were officially merged on April 7 and reorganized as KNDF Battalion 7 under Military Region No. 2.
Formed in 2021, the KNDF has more than 30 battalions and also joined the Spring Revolutionary Alliance (SRA), which was formed in December 2025.
Since last year, because of junta counteroffensives, the military has regained control of Loikaw, Demoso, Hpasawng, and some townships on the Shan-Karenni border.
At present, junta forces are also reportedly building up strength along the Hpasawng–Mawchi road and carrying out continuous air attacks on the Mawchi area.

For that reason, civil society groups and the public have been consistently urging all revolutionary forces in Karenni—including the KNDF, KNPP/KA, KNPLF, and KNA—to unite under a single “Unified Karenni State Army (UKSA)” in order to regain military advantage.

It said that when the first fighter jet dropped its bombs, one building was destroyed and one tent was burned down.
After the first strike, comrades who maintained military alert launched a reconnaissance drone to verify whether their fellow fighters were safe and to document the attack, which allowed them to capture clear footage of the second and third fighter jet strikes as well.
According to the Yinmabin District Drone Force, the second and third jets specifically targeted a white Faw truck loaded with drones and related equipment inside the camp.
Although no one was injured because comrades were able to evade the strike, the statement said property worth around 100 million kyat was destroyed.
