    1) KIO awards gold medals to three people with 50 years of service, including Lt. Gen. Gam Shawng
    m.CDM, February 9
The Kachin Independence Organization/Army (KIO/KIA) Information Department announced that the KIO has awarded gold medals to three individuals who have completed 50 years of service, including Lt. Gen. Gam Shawng, a former KIA Chief of Staff and the current Vice Chairman of the KIO.
The awards were presented during the 65th Kachin Revolution Day ceremony held on February 5. Those receiving gold medals were: KIO Vice Chairman Lt. Gen. Gwamhtan Gam Shawng, the Director of Basic Education under the KIO Central Education Office (Htawngng Yaw Sau), and KIA Headquarters Deputy Lt. Gen. Udi Awng.
In addition, certificates of honor were also presented to KIO/KIA government staff marking 10, 20, 30, and 40 years of service. The Information Department stated that 1,414 staff members received such certificates at the 65th anniversary ceremony.
Kachin Revolution Day ceremonies were also held in Laiza (KIO headquarters), other KIO-administered areas, and among Kachin communities abroad.

    2) Gun Maw: Naypyidaw asked if it wants talks with NUG; told Chinese envoy fighting can’t be avoided; Sagaing is the “front gate”
    m.CDM, February 9
Deputy Lt. Gen. Gun Maw said the Kachin Independence Council (KIC) and KIA are working together with Spring Revolution forces including the NUG, and that they do not accept a format of negotiating “one group at a time” with the Naypyidaw government (the junta). He made these remarks while delivering a speech online to the 65th Kachin Revolution Day event held in Texas, USA.
He said they have told the Naypyidaw government openly that talks cannot be completed with the KIO alone, and that they have asked whether Naypyidaw has the desire to talk with the NUG—adding that KIO will not accept one-by-one negotiations.
He also said that when they met China’s special envoy around the time of the coup, China urged them not to carry out fighting, but the KIO side explained that fighting cannot be avoided.
He further stated that Sagaing Region is considered the “front gate of Kachin State,” and that they must guard against the enemy there and ensure security—adding that they have goals for strengthening democratic forces’ territorial control in areas such as Kawlin, Katha, and Kanbalu.
He expressed hope that 2026 could be a year of major changes, noting that the KIA controls towns in Sagaing such as Indaw, Pinlebu, and Shwe Pyi Aye, and is working to take control of additional major towns. He also said efforts are underway to link Rakhine, Chin, Sagaing, and Kachin along the northwest corridor in pursuit of liberation.

    3) KIA attacked and destroyed a radar station at Myitkyina airbase and a junta tank; junta troops attacked in Pantan and Nyaung-U
    m.CDM, February 9
A KIA source said the KIA carried out a drone attack that destroyed a radar station at the Namhpoung airbase headquarters in Myitkyina, Kachin State. In addition, the KIA reportedly destroyed another junta tank in Bhamo. The attack on the radar station occurred around 9:30 a.m. on February 8, and Deputy Lt. Gen. Gun Maw also confirmed this at the 65th Kachin Revolution Day ceremony.
The report also said that in recent days the KIA destroyed another tank in Bhamo Township, bringing the total to around seven tanks destroyed within two months.
Separately, in Pantan Township (western Bago Region), locals said about 10 resistance fighters opened fire around 8:30 p.m. on February 8 at a gate post connected to the No. (3) Heavy Industry (commonly referred to as “KaPaSa-3”) near Htone Bo. Some residents speculated the attackers could be AA troops, though the AA has not issued any statement. No casualties were confirmed, but the incident reportedly caused heightened fear because the shooting happened close to town and near a military-related facility.
In Nyaung-U Township (Mandalay Region), around 12:30 p.m. on February 8, resistance forces reportedly shot two junta personnel from inside a police station (Nga Thayauk area) at the station entrance as they came out to shop. The report said the attack was carried out by 21 BAGAN PDF and the “Daung Yin Thway” guerrilla group (DYT). One junta member was reportedly killed on the spot and the other seriously wounded. Afterward, junta forces increased checks and inspections near the station and along roads, and the report urged the public to be cautious and avoid military-linked places.

    4) NUCC and NUG discuss strengthening revolutionary leadership and political matters
    m.CDM, February 9
The NUG announced that it held its second round of frank and open talks with the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) to strengthen revolutionary leadership and discuss political matters.
The meeting was held on February 8 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:14 p.m. Topics reportedly included: strengthening a unified revolutionary leadership; amending Part (2) of the Federal Democracy Charter; reforming NUCC; advancing the drafting process for the constitutional framework related to federal transition arrangements (AFTA); and the status of NUCC/NUG joint coordination committees. The statement said many positive agreements were reached.
NUCC leaders and members from state and federal unit groupings attended, and on the NUG side, union ministers, deputy ministers, and responsible officials from the Political Coordination Commission (PCC) participated.

    5) Myanmar’s UN Ambassador: NUG has been paying the annual UN contribution to keep voting rights
    m.CDM, February 9
Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, said the NUG has been paying the annual amount required to the United Nations as a member state.
According to the report, he said that from 2021 through the end of 2025, payments were made three times to ensure Myanmar did not lose its UN voting rights. It was stated that the first payment—over US$300,000—came from office funds, while payments in 2024 and 2025 were made from the Myanmar Mission’s New York account using funds provided by the NUG. The report said NUG funds come from public donations and were used to meet the required minimum payment so voting rights would not be lost.
He added that because these payments were made, Myanmar’s mission retains UN voting rights through the end of 2026. He noted the annual amount is over US$300,000; while relatively small compared to some countries, it is still significant given the current revolutionary period and constraints. The report also explained that under UN rules, if a member state fails to pay the minimum amount for two consecutive years, it loses voting rights—so efforts were made to avoid losing the vote. He emphasized that maintaining voting rights helps block the junta’s attempts to gain UN representation and that keeping the Myanmar mission functioning also supports the revolution. The mission is also cutting expenses while working to amplify the Myanmar people’s voice internationally.

    6) KNDF chief: Working to form a single Karenni army (UKSA)
    m.CDM, February 9
KNDF Chief of Military Affairs, Khun Reedu, said they are making every effort to unite all armed groups in Karenni State into a single, unified force called the “United Karenni State Army (UKSA),” which would operate under the Karenni State civilian government.
He made the remarks during the “Yadana Aarman Campaign” event on February 7. He said Karenni State has long had many armed organizations and that unity is being built as strongly as possible, stressing that only unity can bring success in resisting the junta.
In recent days, Karenni groups have urged political and military leaders to work toward “one government and one defense force” in Karenni State. A KSCSC-CDM official commented that if unification succeeds, both defensive and offensive operations would become more effective, military needs could be met more fully, protection of civilians would improve, and the revolution could end sooner.
Military observers estimated that the KNDF is the strongest force in Karenni State with more than 30 battalions, and that state-based armed groups such as KNPP/KA, KNLP, KNPLF, KNPDP, and KNSO may total around 5,000 fighters. The report also mentioned the Kayan National Army (KNA), formed in October with around 800 troops, as well as local forces and NUG township-based battalions.

    7) Muslims in Maungdaw District donate 50 million kyats to rebuild bombed Mrauk-U hospital
    m.CDM, February 9
Local reports from Rakhine said Muslim residents in Maungdaw Township donated 50 million kyats (500 lakhs) to help repair and rebuild the public hospital in Mrauk-U District, which was heavily damaged by a junta airstrike.
The donation ceremony was held on February 8, and funds were handed to responsible officials from the Arakan People’s Health Department. Arakan Princess Media (APM) reported that Muslim religious leaders and district elders presented the donation on behalf of donors to district administrative leaders and health officials.
A local man quoted by Narinjara News said the funds were raised under the leadership of a Muslim affairs committee and collected as a fund from businesspeople. A Maungdaw district elder, Sayar Bar Sel, said Muslims were deeply saddened by the bombing of a hospital that treats all ethnic communities and that the donation was made to support reconstruction as much as possible.
The report said the junta bombed the Mrauk-U public hospital on December 10, 2025 (International Human Rights Day), killing 33 civilians—including children and hospitalized patients—and injuring 76, with the hospital severely destroyed.

😎 CDF Hakha warns locals not to go to hills/forests near Hakha due to security situation
    m.CDM, February 9
CDF-Hakha announced that, starting February 9, local residents should not travel or move around in the forested and mountainous areas near Hakha, Chin State, due to security-related conditions and potential danger.
The announcement said the restriction remains valid until further notice, and urged the public to respect and cooperate with the directive.
The report added that CDF-Hakha has previously carried out operations against the junta, including an assault on LIB-266 based in Hakha on December 26, 2025, which led to intense fighting. It also said that in October 2025, CDF-Hakha attacked the Hakha police station, inflicted casualties on junta forces, and reportedly freed 15 prisoners based on military incident records. CDF-Hakha has announced it will launch a battle to seize Hakha and has called on young people to join.

    9) Katha District Battalion (2) provides support to families of fallen fighters
    m.CDM, February 9
Indaw Revolution (IR) reported that Katha District Battalion (2), based in Indaw Township, Sagaing Region, provided support this month to families of fighters who died in battle for federal democracy.
The support was funded through proceeds from the “Honor and Help—March Forward” fundraising campaign that Battalion (2) and IR jointly conducted in October 2025. The statement said support has been provided to all fallen comrades since the battalion was formed, and that they will continue to assist fighters who lost limbs. It also said they provide monthly basic food items (rice, oil, salt, etc.) to fighters’ families, and expressed gratitude to the public for contributing to the campaign.

    10) Night temperatures may continue to drop; fog possible nationwide
    m.CDM, February 9
The NUG Ministry of Social Affairs, Labour and Humanitarian Assistance released a weekly weather forecast for February 9–15, stating that conditions over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal are fair, and that night temperatures may continue to fall with fog possible across the country.
It forecast scattered rain in eastern and southern Shan State, Karen State, Mon State, Karenni State, Tanintharyi Region, and Bago Region. Elsewhere conditions are expected to be generally fair, with possible night-time temperature drops in northern Kachin State, southern Shan State, Mandalay Region, and Karenni State, and fog possible nationwide.
For sea conditions, it said winds along the Tanintharyi coast, Rakhine coast, delta region, and Gulf of Martaban may blow from the east to northeast at about 10–20 miles per hour, with slight to moderate waves.
