1. At Least 9 Civilians Killed by Military Council Airstrikes in Sagaing and Chin State
m.CDM – January 5
According to local sources, at least nine civilians were killed after the terrorist Military Council carried out aerial bombings using gyrocopters and fighter jets in Myaung Township, Salingyi Township (Sagaing Region), and Hakha Township (Chin State).
On January 5 in the morning, despite no clashes taking place, Military Council forces bombed Nabat Village in Myaung Township using three gyrocopters.
As a result of the explosions, two civilians, including one woman, were killed, and several houses were damaged.
Similarly, on January 4 at around 2:00 PM, a sub-township hospital in Mataungta Village, Salingyi Township was bombed with two bombs dropped from a gyrocopter that took off from the Monywa-based Northwestern Command (NaMaKha).
During the attack, one doctor and two hospital cooks were killed, and others were injured, though the exact number of injured has not yet been confirmed.
Local residents said the hospital was constructed only after the military coup and that no armed clashes had ever occurred in the surrounding area.
In addition, on January 4 around midnight, Military Council aircraft bombed Horta Village and Haiphai Village in Hakha Township, Chin State, despite the absence of fighting.
One bomb hit a house in Horta Village, killing a mother and her two children instantly. The father later died the next afternoon while receiving medical treatment due to severe injuries.
2. 21 BAGAN Warns It Will Take Action Against Those Spreading False Information
m.CDM – January 5
The 21 BAGAN resistance group announced on January 5 that it will investigate and take action against individuals and media outlets spreading false information.
This statement followed a post made on January 4 by a revolutionary news page claiming that the entire 21 BAGAN group had defected to the Military Council.
The group clarified via video that the claim was entirely false, stating that 21 BAGAN has never negotiated or collaborated with the military since its formation on May 18, 2024.
21 BAGAN reaffirmed that its objective is the complete eradication of dictatorship and the establishment of a genuine federal democratic system under the people.
The group stated that it continues to conduct military operations in cooperation with allied forces.
While acknowledging challenges during the revolution, the group warned that spreading false news damages the image of the revolution and undermines public and allied trust.
Therefore, 21 BAGAN officially announced it will identify and take legal action against those disseminating false reports about the group.
3. 35 Political Prisoners Beaten and Held in Solitary Confinement at Magway Prison
m.CDM – January 5
The Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM) reported that 35 political prisoners at Magway Prison have been beaten and placed in solitary confinement for nearly one month, as of January 5.
On December 8, 2025, prison authorities ordered political prisoners from Male Ward 4 to wash used plates from the entire prison in groups of ten. When prisoners stated they were unable to comply, prison staff assaulted them.
Prisoners were forced to squat with their heads bowed. Those who did not comply had their faces covered and were beaten and left under the sun, resulting in head injuries.
PPNM confirmed that some prisoners were also forced face-down on the ground and beaten with batons, electric wires, and thick ropes.
As a result, 35 political prisoners have been held in solitary confinement from December 8 until now, and families remain unaware of their current health conditions.
The abuses reportedly involved prison staff member Thet Paing Soe, along with ward leaders from various blocks.
Additionally, 11 political prisoners who participated in a betel-nut boycott campaign on December 17—aimed at cutting off prison staff’s income from overpriced prison goods—were also beaten, shackled, and remain in solitary confinement.
PPNM further stated that food restrictions, limited visitation, and bribery requirements constitute violations of human rights and international prison standards.
4. 31 of 88 Documented Conflict-Related Sexual Violence Cases Committed by the Military Council
m.CDM – January 5
The Burmese Women’s Union (BWU) reported documenting 88 cases of conflict-related sexual violence in Myanmar, of which 31 cases were committed by the Military Council and affiliated groups, including 10 cases of gang rape.
Between January 2024 and July 2025, BWU recorded 64 rape cases, including 11 gang rapes involving 2 to 10 perpetrators.
Victims ranged in age from 5 to 70, including 29 minors and 4 persons with disabilities.
Eight victims were killed by perpetrators, while six survivors endured extreme torture.
BWU also documented 28 sexual violence cases committed by resistance groups, including 17 cases involving PDF units under the National Unity Government, as well as individual cases involving KA and CDM personnel.
BWU urged revolutionary leaders to strictly enforce civilian protection codes, ensure legal accountability, and establish protection mechanisms for women and girls in controlled areas.
5. Meeting Held Between CDM Soldiers/Police and the People’s Goal Organization in Bangkok
m.CDM – January 5
A meeting between CDM military and police members and their families and the People’s Goal Organization was held on December 7 in Bangkok, Thailand, aimed at strengthening cooperation, sharing experiences, and addressing challenges.
A total of 24 participants, including former 88-Generation air force veteran U Myint Wai, attended.
The organization explained its ongoing activities and areas where CDM members can contribute, while participants openly shared their personal struggles.
The People’s Goal Organization provides education, security assistance, shelter, food, healthcare, vocational training, and employment support to CDM soldiers, police, and families.
6. Non-CDM Education Office Staff Arrested with Drugs in Aunglan Township
m.CDM – January 5
On December 28, Moe Htet Khine, a clerk from the Aunglan District Education Office, was arrested between Thanchate Gate and Myohla Bridge with 105 WY meth tablets and 20 kyattha of dried marijuana, according to Battalion No. 2 of Thayet District.
He was detained during a patrol and inspection. Authorities noted links to local militia figures and KTV owners.
The suspect was transferred to the Aunglan Township People’s Defense Force (PaKaFa) and Public Security Force, where further investigation will proceed.
Authorities warned that as scam networks decline, schools may increasingly be used as drug distribution points.
7. Madaya Township PaKaFa Launches “To Madaya, To Home” Campaign
m.CDM – January 5
The Madaya Township People’s Defense Force announced the launch of a fundraising campaign titled “To Madaya, To Home”, aiming to raise 150 million kyats for weapons and ammunition.
Madaya, located near Mandalay, has long been a stronghold of resistance forces and remains strategically significant.
While several military bases were captured in 2024, intense counter-offensives in late 2025 forced temporary territorial losses.
The campaign emphasizes that funds are solely for arms procurement, noting that ammunition costs approximately 12,000 kyats per bullet.
