1. Junta Airstrike Bombs Wedding Pavilion in Tatkon Village, Aunglan Township — At Least 7 Civilians Killed

At around 2:00 p.m., the junta air force carried out an aerial bombing on Tatkon Village in Aunglan Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the deaths of at least seven civilians, with many others injured, according to reports from the Aunglan public network.
Local residents said that shortly after hearing aircraft noise, no fewer than three 100-lb bombs were dropped. The explosions primarily hit a wedding pavilion inside the village.
As a result of the airstrike, two houses were completely destroyed by fire, and other homes also sustained fire damage.
Among the dead were a one-year-old child, a woman over 60 years old, and a man in his early 30s.
Although the exact number of injured is still unknown, it is believed to be high. After the attack, almost all villagers fled the area, making casualty verification ongoing.
The Aunglan Public Organization stated that investigations are continuing and that further details will be released.

2. Five PDF Fighters Killed, Two Civilians Injured in Junta Airstrike on Maunglu Town

A junta fighter jet bombed Manhai Village in Maunglu Town, Indaw Township, Sagaing Region, killing five People’s Defense Force (PDF) fighters and injuring two civilians, according to Indaw Revolution–IR.
The attack occurred around 11:00 p.m. on January 21, when two bombs were dropped on the village.
In addition to casualties, two houses, one building, and several cattle owned by villagers were destroyed or killed.
Earlier, on January 2, another junta airstrike between Paikhu Village and Ywarshay Village killed one Grade-12 female student and injured another.

3. Eight Junta Soldiers Killed, Ten Seriously Injured in Attack on Returning Military Column in Kyaukpadaung

In Kyaukpadaung Township, Mandalay Region, resistance forces attacked a junta column returning after transporting civilians who had been forcibly conscripted as porters. Eight junta soldiers were killed on the spot, and ten were seriously injured, according to Rocket Fighter PDF.
The attack occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on January 21.
Two vehicles, including one carrying Pyusawhti leader Htay Lwin Oo, were ambushed by allied resistance forces.

4. Arakan Army Continues Mine-Clearance Operations in Maungdaw

In Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, the Arakan Army (AA) is continuing mine-clearance operations targeting landmines planted by the junta and extremist groups ARSA, ARA, and RSO, according to Arakan Princess Media.
On January 20–21, AA troops cleared roads near Battalion 766 and areas around Myakanta Dam, recovering 78 M-14 landmines.
The junta and armed groups deliberately planted mines in villages, farmlands, homes, and roads, endangering civilians.
The Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government stated that it is also conducting mine-risk education programs, warning signage installations, and pamphlet distribution throughout the region.

5. Junta Captain Dies in Friendly Fire Incident After Returning from Drug Use in Putao

A junta captain named Yan Aung Win died after being shot during an internal dispute at a military outpost in Lonshayan Village, Putao Township, Kachin State, according to local sources.
The incident occurred at around 7:00 p.m. on January 21.
A local resident told The 74 Media:
“He had just returned from using opium. It’s unclear whether outsiders shot him, but people believe it was internal fighting since there are no resistance groups in that area.”
Following the incident, junta troops reportedly fired heavy and small arms indiscriminately.
Military tensions are rising in nearby villages as junta forces and allied militias reinforce positions, with clashes possible at any time.

6. Bago District Battalion–2 Calls for New Recruits

Bago District Battalion–2, under PDF Operational Area No. 2, announced it is recruiting new fighters as it intensifies operations against the military junta.
The battalion operates in coordination with KNLA Brigade 3, Battalion 9, and is active along the Sittaung River basin.
The recruitment statement emphasizes:
• Unity, resilience, and determination
• Physical and mental preparedness
• Commitment to revolutionary goals
• Willingness to fight until the end without regional or personal bias
Eligibility includes:
• Ages 18–35
• Excellent health
• Ability to follow discipline and command structure
The battalion participated in the capture of Tawgyi Inn town, Kyaukkyi Township, on January 9.

7. KNLA Hands Over Myanmar Suspect Who Shot Thai Police Sergeant

The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Battalion 28, under the Karen National Union (KNU), arrested and handed over Nagar Gyi (aka Naing Lin Aung) to Thai authorities after he shot a Thai police sergeant and fled into Myanmar.
The shooting occurred on January 20, 2026, near Mae Ku, along the Mae Sot–Umphang road, Tak Province.
KNLA forces captured the suspect on January 21 in Phalu area, Myawaddy Township, and transferred him to Thai authorities on January 22 at 10:00 a.m.

8. Deputy Prison Officer at Kalay Prison Accused of Extortion and Abuse

The Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM) reported that Kyaw Htet Oo, deputy prison officer at Kalay Prison, is exploiting and extorting inmates.
He allegedly demands money for cell transfers and dormitory changes and has a history of assaulting prisoners, including causing head injuries, without facing disciplinary action.
Food rations have reportedly been siphoned off, forcing inmates to rely on family parcels.
He also uses an inmate named Aung Hlaing Than (aka Pho Lone)—imprisoned for drug offenses—as his enforcer.
