⸻ - CDM female elephant shot dead and burned in Alaungdaw Kathapa; BNRA commander accused; BNRA leader Bo Nagar denies, claims landmine incident
m.CDM – January 15
According to local and resistance sources, a female elephant that had joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and was sheltering in the Alaungdaw Kathapa Forest Reserve was shot dead and its body burned to conceal evidence by a group led by BNRA commander Bo Myat Myint.
The incident occurred on January 6. The female elephant, named Poe Ei San, who had a calf, was shot dead. When locals inspected the site on January 8 after the Myat Myint unit had withdrawn, they found that the body had been burned in two separate locations.
It was reported that landmines had been planted around the burned areas. A responsible official stated that even if the elephant had posed a threat, the incident should have been reported to the relevant authorities.
The elephant Poe Ei San left behind two calves, one of whom is only two and a half years old and still nursing. Elephant handlers stated that the elephant was not known to harm humans.
The accused commander Bo Myat Myint is reportedly notorious for multiple abuses, including threatening and arresting Pa-Ah-Fa and Pa-Ka-Fa officials at gunpoint in Yinmabin Township Sub-district (4), assaulting them, and deliberately firing at PDF forces while pretending to engage the enemy during a

river battle in Kani Township.
BNRA leader Bo Nagar denied the accusations, stating:
“We did not shoot the elephant. When PDFs surrounded the Myat Myint camp from behind, landmines placed in front of the camp caused the elephants to be injured and killed.”
Local residents have filed a complaint with the National Unity Government (NUG) and are awaiting further action.
