Greetings.
From this moment on, we will be presenting m.CDM’s domestic news updates.
Today’s news includes the following:

  1. A junta military column advancing into Kyein Khar Kone Village was ambushed and annihilated; at least 20 junta personnel, including one officer at the rank of Major, were killed.
  2. A vehicle accompanying the Kanma Township Administrator was attacked, resulting in fatalities; the Shwe Kyay Min checkpoint in Ye-U Township was also attacked, killing nine junta personnel, including one officer in charge of the checkpoint.
  3. Fighting broke out at the Yangtze Copper Company in Salingyi Township; a civilian was killed by junta gunfire. Airstrikes were carried out in Kantbalu, Pauk–Myaing, and Ye-U townships, and a jet fighter bombed the Thibual Village sub-township hospital, damaging the hospital and homes.
  4. The junta attacked village tracts in Laymular Township where elections could not be held, using drones and heavy weapons, along with other related developments.
  5. Junta Column Advancing into Kyein Khar Kone Village Destroyed;
    20 Killed Including One Major

    A junta military column advancing into Kyein Khar Kone Village, near Pe Nwe Kone Town, Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region, close to the old Yangon–Mandalay highway, was ambushed and destroyed, according to a statement by the Bago Regional Military Command and Operation Area No. (2).
    The attack was carried out on January 12 by forces under Operation Area No. (2), including:
    • Battalion 3702 under Strategic Command (25),
    • Special Commando Battalion (P-29914),
    • Battalion 3703 (Fire Dragon) under Strategic Command (26),
    • Royal Peacock Battalion (P-29913).
    During the battle, at least 20 junta personnel were killed, including the column commander, a Major (body confirmed). Many others were injured, and the column collapsed and retreated in disarray.
    Weapons and equipment seized included:
    • One 60mm long-barrel mortar
    • Two 60mm short-barrel mortars
    • One RPG launcher
    • MA-1 rifles (7)
    • MA-2 rifles (2)
    • MA-3 rifles (2)
    • MA-11 rifles (3)
    • 60mm mortar rounds (24)
    • Hand grenades (24)
    • RPG rounds (2)
    • RPG propellant charges (2)
    • 40mm rounds (9)
    • Ammunition boxes (9)
    • Type-18 mines (3)
    • Type-14 mines (3)
    • Helmets (13)
    • 5.56mm rounds (200)

    On the resistance side, one fighter from Battalion 3702 and two People’s Defense Force fighters were killed, while three others sustained minor injuries, according to Battalion 3702.
    Due to ongoing military operations, civilians, travelers, and road users in surrounding areas have been urged to exercise caution and prioritize their safety.
  6. Kanma Township Administrator Killed in Attack;
    Shwe Kyay Min Checkpoint Attacked – 9 Killed

    In Kanma Township, Magway Region, a vehicle accompanying the township administrator was ambushed on the Pyay–Kanma road, between Pyaung Cha Village and Pael Cha Village, according to the Kanma Township People’s Defense Force.
    On January 11 (election day), at 12:15 PM, the vehicle carrying Township Administrator Zaw Min Naing, along with two Double-Cab vehicles providing security equipped with jammers, was attacked while inspecting polling stations.
    During the attack, Zaw Min Naing, his aide and driver Thant Zin Aung, and two junta personnel were shot. Zaw Min Naing and Thant Zin Aung later died while receiving medical treatment.
    The attack was carried out by the Kanma Township PDF, which successfully withdrew without casualties.
    Separately, in Sagaing Region, a combined resistance force attacked the junta’s Shwe Kyay Min checkpoint west of Ye-U Town, according to Shwebo District Battalion 24.
    The attack occurred at 5:00 AM on January 8, killing nine junta personnel, including one officer serving as checkpoint commander.
    A vehicle transporting a machine gun overturned and was destroyed, killing four junta soldiers on board. Remaining junta forces abandoned the checkpoint and fled into Ye-U town on motorcycles.
    The operation was jointly carried out by Battalions 11, 14, and 24 of Shwebo District, together with local resistance forces forming the Ye-U Column.
  7. Fighting at Yangtze Copper Company; Civilian Killed;
    Airstrikes Across Multiple Townships, Hospital Bombed

    In Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, clashes erupted inside the compound of the Chinese-owned Yangtze Copper Company (Myanmar Yangtze) between resistance forces and junta troops stationed at the site from around 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on January 11, according to local sources.
    During the fighting, junta return fire caused an artillery shell to land on a house in Wat Tan Village, killing a man in his 40s.
    Additionally:
    • On January 10 and 11, the junta bombed Htein Taw Village’s West Monastery in Kantbalu Township without any clashes occurring, damaging the monastery but causing no casualties.
    • On January 12, the junta carried out two airstrikes near a school in Thayet Kan Village, on the border of Pauk and Myaing townships, again without fighting; no casualties or damage were reported.
    • In Ye-U Township, on January 10 and 11, junta jets conducted five bombing runs using three jet fighters, targeting Lay Ywar School, Ohn Ta Paung School, Kwan Ohn Village Sub-township Hospital, and a monastery. One civilian was injured, and school and monastery buildings were damaged. Junta artillery fire from Ye-U town forced villagers to flee, according to activist Htoo Khant Zaw (Amae Thar).
    • In Thibual Village, Chin State, the junta bombed a sub-township hospital with a jet fighter at around 9:30 PM on January 11, despite no fighting occurring. Hospital wards and some houses were damaged, though no casualties were reported, according to a spokesperson for the Chin National Defense Force (CNO/CNDF).
    The hospital had been seized by the CNDF on November 15, 2023, and was occupied by defense forces until April 9, 2025. No troops remained stationed there after the capture of Falam Town.
  8. Attacks on Junta Bases and Election Inspectors in Ye and Kamarwet;
    At Least 4 Junta Personnel Killed

    At least four junta personnel were killed in attacks targeting junta bases and officers inspecting polling stations in Ye Town and Kamarwet Town, Mon State, according to the Ramanya Mon Army (RMA).
    On January 10 and 11, RMA forces attacked five junta positions, using 107mm rockets and drone-dropped bombs.
    At around 4:00 AM on January 11, RMA fighters attacked a junta checkpoint at Azin Village entrance, Ye Township, killing three soldiers and seriously wounding one.
    Later that morning at 8:00 AM, RMA fired three 107mm rockets at the junta’s Operation Command Headquarters (SaKaKha-19) in Ye Town and two rockets at Artillery Battalion 316 near Kalat Village.
    Rocket impacts occurred near junta bases, and casualty assessments are ongoing.
    Simultaneously, RMA’s drone unit dropped two bombs on Light Infantry Battalion 209 in Kamarwet, killing one officer, according to preliminary information.
    Earlier, on January 10, RMA drones also dropped a bomb on junta officers inspecting polling stations in Kamarwet, injuring three personnel.
    RMA reported no casualties on their side.
  9. Junta Attacks Villages Where Elections Could Not Be Held
    Using Drones and Heavy Weapons

    In Laymular Township, under the administration of the Myeik–Dawei District of the Karen National Union (KNU), the junta carried out drone and heavy-weapon attacks on villages where elections could not be held, according to the district’s Public Relations and Information Department.
    On January 10 at around 8:30 PM, junta forces dropped two drone bombs on Myit Chinn Su Village, Palauk Village Tract, forcing residents to flee.
    On the same day, Light Infantry Battalion 285, based in Palaw Town, fired heavy weapons into Duyin Pin Shaung Village and Nan Taung Village, injuring one villager and damaging civilian homes.
    The statement said the junta deliberately targeted civilians in Myeik–Dawei District, areas it had lost control over and where its sham second-phase elections could not be held, in order to instill fear ahead of the election period through airstrikes, drone attacks, and artillery fire.
  10. 63rd Ta’ang National Resistance Day Marked with Military Parade;
    General Tar Aik Bong Emphasizes Interethnic Harmony

    The 63rd anniversary of Ta’ang National Resistance Day was held on January 12, 2026, in Mantong Township, northern Shan State, and was organized on a grand scale by the Palaung State Liberation Front / Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA).
    The event featured a military parade of over 1,000 troops, marking the first public display of:
    • Modern air-defense systems
    • Armored vehicles
    • Howitzer artillery
    • Other military hardware and equipment
    Thousands of attendees from diverse ethnic backgrounds—including Ta’ang, Kachin, Shan, Bamar, Gurkha, Kokang, Lisu, and others—were present.
    In his address, Chairman General Tar Aik Bong emphasized that, because multiple ethnic groups live together in Ta’ang areas, “different ethnic groups must coexist with love and mutual respect.” He also stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence after nearly 70 years of military rule.
    Ta’ang National Resistance Day commemorates January 12, 1963, when the Palaung National Front (PNF) was founded. The statement reaffirmed the commitment to ethnic unity, democracy, and building a federal union.

  11. Student Armed Forces Capture 16 POWs in Two Months;
    13 Junta Personnel Defect

    The Student Front / Student Armed Forces (SF/SAF) announced that within two months, they captured 16 prisoners of war and received 13 junta defectors within their operational areas.
    The captures occurred along the Ann–Padaung road and near the Pathein–Monywa highway, involving junta troops who fled or were captured during clashes.
    The POWs are being held in accordance with organizational policies and international humanitarian law.
    Among the defectors were one sergeant major and one corporal, bringing the total number of defectors to 13. These individuals are now serving as fighters within the Student Armed Forces.
