According to Battalion No. (4) of the Kawtha District, Sagaing Region, the military council and the SNA (Shanni Nationalities Army) are spreading propaganda claiming that the buildings burned down in Banmauk City were set ablaze by the People’s Defense Force (PDF).

In reality, the incident was caused by an explosion when heavy artillery shells fired by the military council troops landed in the area.

After the revolutionary forces had taken control of Banmauk City for more than a month, the military council troops and SNA joint forces launched an offensive in an attempt to regain control of the city.

During that period, on October 26, a 120 mm mortar shell fired by the military council troops exploded inside the Banmauk City police compound, setting several buildings on fire.

However, the military council and SNA have been disseminating false information on their propaganda Facebook pages and Telegram channels, falsely claiming that “the PDF set the fire,” Battalion No. (4) of Kawtha District clarified.

Due to ongoing clashes within Tanintharyi Township, the Tanintharyi Military Command has issued a notice urging the public not to use the Myeik–Tanintharyi–Bote Pyin highway until further notice.

Fierce fighting has been occurring between the military council troops and revolutionary joint forces within Tanintharyi Township.
