The People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) have issued a warning urging public vigilance as Military Council troops prepare to launch an offensive toward Khanpat Town, located in Sagaing Region, an area currently under the control of the PDFs.

Reports indicate that columns of Military Council troops advancing from the Kalay Township side have been moving along the Kalay–Tamu Road toward Khanpat Town, and as of October 18, they have taken positions near the Tamu Township section of the Kalay–Tamu highway.

At present, travel along the Kalay–Tamu highway has been restricted by the People’s Defense Forces, and some local civilians have fled their homes to escape potential clashes.

The People’s Defense Battalion (4) of Tamu District has urged civilians to strictly follow the safety warnings and guidance issued by the local defense forces in light of the current security situation.

It is worth noting that Khanpat Town was captured by the People’s Defense Forces and local revolutionary groups on November 7, 2023, and has remained under their control up to the present day.

Similarly, in August, intense clashes took place near Nan Mun Tar Village along the Kalay–Tamu Asian Highway, when a Military Council column entered the area. The junta forces were ultimately forced to retreat with heavy casualties.
