On September 23, Police Officer Kyaw Khine (ID No. 309704) from Riot Police Battalion 11 (Taungoo), under the junta’s Police Force Command, contacted resistance forces to defect. He was successfully extracted from enemy territory by the No. 3 Battalion of Tharyar District’s Nga Pyae Ma Pyaung Kyarr Force, according to an October 3 announcement.

He defected with:

  • One BA94 (MA-13) rifle,
  • Four magazines,
  • 380 rounds of ammunition.

He has since been awarded 500,000 kyats as recognition and is being warmly welcomed and cared for. The battalion further announced that any police or soldiers wishing to defect to the side of the people can safely reach out via the battalion’s official Facebook page.

Similarly, the KNDF Brigade 5 announced that on September 30, 2025, during a frontline operation in Karenni State, two junta soldiers defected with weapons.

The two defectors were conscripted soldiers from Infantry Battalion 261 (based in Loikaw). They escaped with two MA-1 rifles and some ammunition.

They revealed that they had been forcibly conscripted by the junta in their local area, underwent a three-month basic military training in April 2024, and were then deployed to Loikaw and later forced to the frontline. They fled because they no longer wished to serve under the junta’s oppressive and brutal system.

The two defectors are now being sheltered under secure protection, with necessary support provided. The KNDF urged all those unjustly serving under the junta to abandon the dictatorship, join the people, and take the side of justice rather than prolonging the tyrannical regime.
