📌📌 2. KECD and KTWG Appeal for Emergency Funds to Support Teachers in Karen State
October 21
The Karen Education and Culture Department (KECD) and the Karen Teachers Working Group (KTWG) have appealed for emergency funds to support teachers in Karen State who are facing financial shortages.
The two organizations issued a joint statement urging for sufficient funding to sustain the annual financial assistance for teachers across Karen State. For the 2025–2026 academic year, they reported that only 59 percent of the required funds are currently available, leaving a 41 percent shortfall.
During the previous academic year, KECD and KTWG had planned to provide each teacher with financial support equivalent to around 10,200 Thai baht (approximately USD 350). However, due to inadequate funding, they were only able to provide about 10,500 Thai baht per teacher.
The organizations warned that if the funding gap is not filled for the coming academic year, the stipends provided to teachers will have to be significantly reduced.
KECD and KTWG stressed that these annual stipends represent not only financial support for educators but also an essential investment in the future of children and the education system. They called on the public and supporters to contribute and help sustain this effort.
It is reported that KECD and KTWG provide annual stipends to over 10,000 teachers working in Karen State.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management under the National Unity Government (NUG) has announced that rainfall across Myanmar will significantly decrease following the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon.
According to the ministry, the southwest monsoon retreated from southern Myanmar on October 16. However, cloud formation remains moderate to dense over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
It is also forecast that the low-pressure area currently forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal may intensify into a depression and possibly a small cyclone, although it is unlikely to move toward Myanmar.
This week’s weather forecast indicates that scattered to widespread rain is expected in Mandalay Region, Magway Region, Yangon Region, Ayeyarwady Region, western Bago Region, Tanintharyi Region, northern and southern Shan State, Chin State, Rakhine State, and Kayah State.
Meanwhile, isolated to scattered rain may occur in Sagaing Region, eastern Bago Region, Kachin State, eastern Shan State, Karen State, and Mon State. However, overall rainfall across the country is expected to decline considerably.
As for coastal conditions, the ministry stated that along the Tanintharyi and Rakhine coastal areas, the delta region, and near the Gulf of Mottama, easterly winds of 10–20 miles per hour may prevail, with slight to moderate waves expected.
This report was submitted by Radio NUG correspondent Ko Khant.
