Myanmar Domestic News Updates – Oct 03, 2025 Evening

📌📌 1. Event in New York Highlighting Voices of Strength and Resilience of Burmese Women and Minorities During the Revolution

On October 3, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the National Unity Government (NUG) announced that its Union Minister, Deputy Minister, and Permanent Representative to the United Nations attended the event titled “Voices of Strength and Resilience of Myanmar Women and Minorities in the Revolution”, held in New York City, USA.

The ceremony, held on October 1 in New York under the same theme, was attended by:

  • Daw Zin Mar Aung, Union Minister of Foreign Affairs,
  • U Moe Zaw Oo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs,
  • U Aung Kyaw Moe, Deputy Minister of Human Rights,
  • U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN,
    as well as representatives from international and UN-affiliated organizations and around 130 Myanmar ethnic communities residing in New York.

At the event, remarks were delivered by:

  • Tom Andrews, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar,
  • U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar Permanent Representative to the UN,
  • Ms. Giske Lillehammer, Norway’s Special Envoy to Myanmar,
  • Ms. Helena Gronberg, Program Director of the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN).

The program included:

  • Testimonies from people about their personal experiences since the 2021 coup,
  • Revolutionary songs,
  • Documentary screenings,
  • Poetry recitations,
  • Showcases of handmade crafts created by women involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM),
  • Photos and recorded voices of women who survived sexual violence during the conflict,
  • Maps highlighting the Myanmar conflict, natural resources, and the geopolitical and economic interests of neighboring countries,
  • Exhibitions of Myanmar’s traditional cultural arts.

This event was supported by the Women Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) and ICAN, and jointly organized by Burma Advocacy Group (BAG), Gender Equality Network (GEN), Global Justice Center (GJC), Myanmar-WPS, New York City Burmese Community (NYCBC), Women Advocacy Coalition-Myanmar (WAC-M), Women Peace Network (WPN), and Women’s League of Burma (WLB), according to the NUG Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

📌📌 2. Soldier from Military Battalion 265 Defects to KNLA Brigade 4

On October 3, the Karen National Union (KNU) Myeik-Dawei District Department of Public Relations and Information announced that a soldier from the junta’s Battalion 265 defected to the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 4 and Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) Battalion 7, bringing along his weapon.

According to the report, the soldier from the junta’s Battalion 265 defected on October 1 with one MA1 rifle, joining KNLA Brigade 4, KNDO Battalion 7, Company 3.

The soldier, who had been forcibly conscripted by the military regime, deserted during front-line deployment and defected to the Karen resistance forces.

The KNU urged other junta troops who have been unlawfully conscripted to follow suit, surrender their arms, and join nearby revolutionary forces instead of continuing to serve the military junta.

📌📌 3. Two Soldiers from Military Battalion 269 Defect to PDF Zoland with Weapons and Ammunition

On October 3, the Chin Defense Force PDF Zoland announced that two junta soldiers from Battalion 269, based in Tiddim, Chin State, defected with their weapons and ammunition.

The statement said that on October 1, Corporal Nyi Nyi Shwe and Private Khine Cho Htoo from Battalion 269 defected with arms and ammunition.

PDF Zoland also urged the remaining soldiers under the command of the Battalion Commander at the Tiddim base to defect in time, stressing that this was the final call for them to surrender.

At the same time, PDF Zoland, a member group of the Chinland Brotherhood, stated:

  • It is actively encouraging junta soldiers to defect.
  • It has already opened registration for the 17th batch of its Basic Military Training Course, welcoming new recruits, especially youths who wish to resist the junta.
  • It has declared that it will launch operations to seize control of Tiddim town.
  • It warned that it would resist the junta’s sham elections and take action against anyone assisting in holding such elections.
