Myanmar Military News Updates – Sep 25, 2025 Morning

🚩🚩 1. Heavy casualties on junta side in Lay Kay Kaw offensive; Thai authorities lodge protest after artillery shells land across border

According to military sources, on September 23, the terrorist junta launched an assault with five columns on Lay Kay Kaw New Town, where intense battles broke out in three different locations, leaving around 50 junta troops dead.

The junta reportedly deployed forcibly conscripted civilians, unlawfully recruited under the military service law, and used them as frontline soldiers. Some new recruits were even drugged with narcotics before being pushed into battle.

Saw Kaw Kaw, commander of Cobra Column (1), said:

“I only feel sorry for those boys. They don’t even know where they are or what they’re doing—they are just driven forward blindly, climbing up like swarms of ants. They don’t even realize when their comrades die. Almost all of them end up getting wiped out. If our troops didn’t fire, they would keep advancing nonstop, so we had no choice but to clear them all.”

The junta deployed forces from Division 22 and Division 55 in its attempt to recapture Lay Kay Kaw, while joint forces led by KNU/KNLA Brigade 6 mounted strong resistance. In addition, LIB-275, stationed in Myawaddy, continuously supported the offensive with 122 mm artillery fire.

Meanwhile, during the clashes near the Thai-Myanmar border, one artillery shell fired from the Myanmar side exploded inside Thai territory, prompting the Thai authorities to issue a formal protest, according to Thai news outlets.

Although no casualties were reported from this September 24 incident, the Thai military and local officials confirmed they were investigating the matter but had not yet identified which unit was responsible for the shelling.

Due to the junta’s ongoing airstrikes and artillery shelling, thousands of civilians from Lay Kay Kaw, Min Latt Pan, Phalu, Yathay Gu, Thee Meh Wah Kee, and other nearby villages have fled across the Moei River into Thailand. Some IDP camps are being kept in secrecy for security reasons, but displaced families are facing severe shortages of food, shelter, and basic necessities.

According to a statement from PSLF/TNLA, the junta carried out another airstrike on Pantee Village, Kyaukme Township, Mine Tin Sub-township, an area under the control of PSLF/TNLA Brigade 2, in northern Shan State.

On September 24 at 1:08 p.m., two 250-pound bombs were dropped, one of which hit the Buddhist monastery in the village.

The explosions damaged the monastery building and dining hall, though no casualties were reported.

It was noted that throughout September, the junta had conducted at least six air and artillery/drone attacks on TNLA-controlled areas of Kyaukme Township, one in Hsipaw Township, and two in Mogok Township. These attacks killed one man, and injured one other man and four women.

🚩🚩 3. Five days of clashes in Laisin area, Lansa region, between junta coalition and KIA joint forces leave heavy junta casualties

In La Hsin area, Lansa, Sawlaw Township, Kachin State, the junta coalition clashed for five consecutive days with joint KIA forces, resulting in significant junta casualties and the recovery of junta soldiers’ bodies.

On September 19–20, as junta troops advanced into La Hsin area, KIA joint forces intercepted and ambushed them together with People’s Defense Forces, inflicting heavy losses.

On September 21, the junta launched a mass wave assault, forcing KIA forces to temporarily withdraw from one camp.

However, battles continued intensely, and on September 23, revolutionary forces successfully recaptured that camp.

As a result of the five-day battles, junta and allied forces were forced to retreat, leaving bodies behind, which were later collected.

Meanwhile, on September 22 at 2:25 p.m., the junta bombed Lansa Town, killing three civilians, including a child, and injuring two more.

Lansa, located about 20 miles from the La Hsin frontline, is a town populated by migrant gold miners and local farmers, far from the battlefield.
