🚩🚩 1. Vice General Gun Maw congratulates PDFs on the victory in capturing Banmauk Town

Vice General Gun Maw, Deputy Chairman of the Kachin Independence Council (KIC) and a senior leader of the Kachin Independence Organization/Army (KIO/KIA), has congratulated the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) for their victory in capturing Banmauk Town.

After the revolutionary forces captured Banmauk Town, a video recording showed PDFs holding a flag-raising victory ceremony in front of the town entrance signboard. The footage was shared by People’s Spring, and Vice General Gun Maw posted a congratulatory remark in response.

He wrote:

“The PDF has gained experience and enhanced capabilities. May greater victories for the people continue to be achieved.”

His comment drew responses of gratitude and respect from the public on social media.

The revolutionary joint forces launched their offensive on September 15 to seize Banmauk, where junta troops and their allied Shan Ni Army (SNA) were stationed. The town was taken on the sixth day of battle.

Colonel Naw Bu, head of the KIA Information Department, stated on September 19 that the operation to seize Banmauk was conducted under the command of the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG), specifically Military Region No. 1.

With the capture of Banmauk, revolutionary forces now control seven towns in Sagaing Region.

September 22, 2025

The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) reported on the morning of September 22 that the terrorist military group once again dropped two 250-pound bombs from the air on Burae Thonesu Village in Mogok Township, Military Region No. 2 of Ta’ang territory.

TNLA said that on September 21, at about 2:20 p.m., the junta had already bombed Burae Thonesu Village, where no fighting was taking place, and the bomb exploded on a poultry farm.

On September 20, the junta also carried out a deliberate drone strike on Lwel Am Village, Kyaukme Township, targeting civilians despite no ongoing clashes, causing damage to a Buddhist monastery.

According to reports, in September alone, the junta launched five aerial bombings in Kyaukme Township, one in Hsipaw Township, and one in Mogok Township.

As a result of these latest bombings, one man and two women were injured, while 17 houses, one school, one monastery, and one vehicle were damaged.

🚩🚩 4. Junta attempts to retake Lay Kay Kaw New Town with heavy artillery fire

In the southern part of Myawaddy Township, Karen State, near the Thai-Myanmar border, the junta launched an offensive with three columns starting from the early morning of September 22 in an attempt to retake Lay Kay Kaw New Town. They have been continuously shelling the area with heavy artillery, according to reports.

Military sources stated that columns from Light Infantry Division 22 and Light Infantry Division 55 had been advancing from Myawaddy towards Lay Kay Kaw in recent days, while today the junta’s 275th Light Infantry Battalion, stationed in Myawaddy as the town guard, provided artillery support toward Lay Kay Kaw.

A source said:

“The junta troops from (275) are firing artillery into Lay Kay Kaw, round after round in groups of three.”

Residents in Thailand’s Mae Sot Township also confirmed that the sounds of continuous heavy artillery fire from the junta were clearly audible across the border.

Following the recapture of Thingan Nyi Naung outpost—the gateway to Myawaddy—the junta has been conducting offensives against KNU-controlled areas in the southern part of Myawaddy Township.

After seizing Lakhat Taung Base Camp in recent days, the junta has also pushed its offensive towards Lay Kay Kaw.

Military sources further reported that the junta aims not only to seize Lay Kay Kaw but also to secure control of the Myawaddy–Waw Lay road and eventually retake Waw Lay and Sukali Towns.

Lay Kay Kaw New Town, established in 2015 with the support of Japan’s Nippon Foundation, consists of over 600 houses and around 3,000 residents, with security managed by the Karen National Union (KNU).

Since the 2021 coup, Lay Kay Kaw became a refuge for anti-junta dissidents. In December 2021, junta forces entered the town to carry out raids and arrests, leading to armed clashes with the KNU’s 27th Battalion.
