Myanmar Military News Updates – Sep 17, 2025 Morning

🚩🚩 1. SAC Column Advancing by Water Route in Kawthaung Attacked and Crushed for Two Consecutive Days

The Kawthaung District People’s Defense Organization (PDO) announced that in Kawthaung and Khamaoukgyi Townships of Kawthaung District, Tanintharyi Region, a SAC military column advancing by water route was attacked and engaged for two consecutive days, resulting in heavy casualties and their subsequent retreat.

On September 9, around 12:30 p.m., about 30 SAC troops split off from a force of around 100 stationed at the Yuzana Oil Palm Plantation and attempted to advance toward Khamaouk Nge Village using two small boats. They were intercepted and ambushed.

During the clash, SAC forces at the Yuzana Oil Palm Plantation provided artillery support with 120 mm and 81 mm heavy weapons. The battle lasted for about an hour, during which one of the accompanying boats was sunk, causing numerous deaths and injuries among SAC soldiers.

On September 10, around 8:20 a.m. and again at 9:30 a.m., resistance forces attacked another column of about 50 SAC soldiers traveling in two motorboats from Kawthaung city to provide reinforcements, near Mali Wan Village, Sae Ein Su.

An intense battle lasting nearly three hours ensued. Many SAC soldiers were killed or wounded. Despite continuous artillery fire in support, the troops carried away their dead and wounded and retreated.

The Kawthaung District Pa Ka Pha urged the public to always remain vigilant of military activity due to the rising intensity of operations in the district, and also called on the people to completely reject and collectively disrupt the sham election that the SAC is planning.

🚩🚩 2. SAC Troop Extorting Money on the Mandalay–Monywa Road Hit by Remote Mine Attack

The 4th Battalion of the Monywa District People’s Defense Force (PDF) reported that a SAC military unit that had been oppressing civilians and extorting money on the Monywa–Mandalay road was attacked with a remote-controlled mine.

The attack occurred at around 8:30 a.m. on September 16, targeting the SAC troops, killing four soldiers on the spot.

The operation was jointly carried out by Monywa District PDF Battalion (4), Company (2) – 5/Commando Force as the lead, with support from Monywa District PDF Battalion (28), Company (3), and Tamu District PDF Battalion (4).

The 4th Battalion of Monywa District PDF also urged the public not to approach SAC convoys on the Monywa–Mandalay road for safety reasons.

🚩🚩 3. SAC Reinforcements from Dawei Ambushed, 10 Killed

On September 14, resistance forces ambushed a SAC reinforcement column of about 100 soldiers advancing from Dawei town to support the junta’s Kyaukme Taung military base.

The ambush took place near Pakari Village and was jointly conducted by Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 4, Battalion 12, along with allied revolutionary forces and local People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), according to a statement from KNLA–Myeik-Dawei District.

The clash resulted in the deaths of 10 SAC soldiers, with around 15 more wounded. Resistance forces also seized some ammunition, including one MA-1 assault rifle.

In retaliation, SAC carried out indiscriminate airstrikes using jet fighters on Pakari Village, which had no involvement in the battle. The strikes damaged several civilian homes, including a Buddhist monastery.

🚩🚩 4. Civilian Injured by SAC Artillery Attack in Hpakant Township

According to local reports, on September 15 at around 3:00 p.m., SAC forces fired heavy artillery shells toward Mashikat Htaung Village in Hpakant Township, Kachin State.

As a result of the shelling, a man in his 30s sustained injuries to his thigh and waist. In addition, two civilian houses were damaged.

🚩🚩 5. Six Civilians Killed in SAC Airstrike in Madaya Township

According to reports from Voice of Mandalay and the Wetlet Information Network, six civilians were killed in an airstrike carried out by the SAC near Di Yar Village and Ukkam Village in Madaya Township, Mandalay Region.

On September 16, at 1:16 p.m., 1:18 p.m., and 1:24 p.m., a jet fighter from Tada-U Air Base dropped 300-lb and 500-lb bombs in three separate strikes.

The bombs exploded near Di Yar village school and in the vicinity of workshops around Ukkam Village. Three civilians from Di Yar and three from Ukkam were killed.

In addition, several others were injured. Among them, a 30-year-old man from Ukkam Village lost his arm and is reportedly in critical condition.

On the night of September 15, at around 11:23 p.m., the SAC had also carried out another airstrike using a Y-12 aircraft, dropping three bombs near Set Taw Village. However, no casualties were reported in that incident.

🚩🚩 6. In the First Week of September, 25 SAC Soldiers, Police, and People’s Militia Defected, Surrendered Weapons, or Were Captured as Prisoners of War

The People’s Goal organization announced that in the first week of September 2025, a total of 25 SAC soldiers, police officers, and People’s Militia members either defected, surrendered their weapons, or were captured as prisoners of war.

According to records compiled from the weekly program “Runaway Project This Week” presented by the People’s Goal, 15 individuals defected and joined the resistance during this period.

Among the 15 defectors, 2 were forcibly conscripted recruits, while the remaining 13 were former SAC soldiers.

Additionally, 10 individuals were captured as prisoners of war, 6 of whom were newly conscripted soldiers.

The People’s Goal highlighted a significant trend: in recent times, group defections have increasingly been led by former SAC soldiers, indicating a growing pattern of disintegration within the junta’s forces.

Based on the People’s Goal’s records, from January 2025 until the first week of September, a total of 2,029 individuals have defected, surrendered weapons, or been captured as prisoners of war.

🚩🚩 7. Graduation Ceremony of Launglon (Pa Ka Pha) Basic Military Training Course Held

On September 15 at 9:00 a.m., the Launglon Township People’s Defense Force organized a formal graduation ceremony for the 2/2025 Weekly (2) Basic Military Training Course, according to an official announcement.

The ceremony was attended by responsible members of the Launglon Township People’s Defense Force, the Launglon Township People’s Administration, the Launglon Township People’s Security Organization, as well as invited guests.

The event consisted of nine programs and successfully concluded at 11:00 a.m.
