ππ 1. Nine Pangolins Handed Over to KIO by Deputy Minister Khun Saw Phoo
September 22, Radio NUG
Deputy Minister Khun Saw Phoo of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation under the National Unity Government (NUG), together with the Department of Forests and Environmental Conservation, transferred nine pangolins that had been temporarily rescued and sheltered, to the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) on September 19.
The handover was carried out so that these pangolins could be safely relocated to their original habitats or to the nearest suitable environments for long-term conservation.
During the photo documentation process of the transfer, one pangolin experienced a sudden change in condition, appearing to be in shock when it was briefly taken down from the vehicle. As a result, it was immediately placed back in the transport vehicle, which is why the photographs show only eight pangolins. Authorities have confirmed that the pangolin has since fully recovered.
It is reported that the Department of Forests and Environmental Conservation and the KIO have accepted and are now keeping all nine pangolins in good condition, and will continue to ensure proper care and protection as they are a rare species.
