📌📌 1. The National Unity Government urges reduced use of ozone-depleting substances and collaboration in ozone layer protection
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation of the National Unity Government (NUG) has urged the public to reduce the use of ozone-depleting substances and to participate in efforts to protect and conserve the ozone layer.
This call was made on the occasion of World Ozone Day, which falls on September 16.
Union Minister Dr. Tu Khawng, who also serves as the Vice-Chairperson of the Union-Level Natural Resources Management Committee, issued a message to mark the World Ozone Day ceremony today, September 16.
He noted that Myanmar is a member of the Montreal Protocol and its amendments, and under the Kigali Amendment, the country is gradually phasing down the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
This year’s theme for World Ozone Day is: “From science to global action – Ozone for life.”
The origins of World Ozone Day date back to discoveries made by scientists in the 1970s and 1980s, when they found a massive hole forming in the ozone layer of the stratosphere. That discovery triggered the global movement for ozone protection.
The Ministry emphasized the need to continue carrying out ozone preservation activities based on scientific research, intersectoral cooperation, and effective measures already undertaken.
It also urged the people of Myanmar that, alongside intensifying nationwide collaboration among ethnic nationalities to end the military dictatorship and continuing the revolutionary struggle, they must also take part in protecting the ozone layer by reducing the use of ozone-depleting substances.

📌📌 2. Burmese youth artists abroad successfully hold “Distant Cafe” performance in the San Francisco Bay Area
Radio NUG, September 16, 2025
On the evening of Saturday, September 13, a music performance was held at a college auditorium in the Bay Area, on the west coast of the United States.
A group of 15 Burmese Generation Z youth artists, who migrated abroad during the Spring Revolution after actively participating in the movement in Myanmar, came together under the name Distant Cafe to continue their artistic activism and support for the Spring Revolution.
The event served as both an entertainment and motivational performance for Myanmar communities abroad, who have consistently supported the revolution.
The organizers announced that proceeds from the concert would be donated to support necessary revolutionary activities in Myanmar. A painting titled Thorns of the Dry Zone by Burmese artist Kyarpauk, donated by the San Francisco Bay Area Nway Oo Tea Gathering family, was auctioned for fundraising. It was purchased by a member of the community for USD 5,000.
Additionally, a guitar prepared by Distant Cafe was auctioned and successfully bid for USD 4,500 by another supporter.
Altogether, the event raised more than USD 90,000 through audience contributions and donations. Over 700 people attended, including new-generation Myanmar students residing in the Bay Area.
The audience not only enjoyed popular songs across generations but also felt inspired by the youthful energy and determination of the performers.
At the conclusion of the event, prayers were offered for the release and health of detained pro-democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who remains unjustly imprisoned under dire health conditions. Expressions of solidarity were also made in support of U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, urging that he continue to represent the country in the years ahead.
One of the event organizers described the performance as a resounding success, far beyond expectations, stating:
“Our young artists, who are temporarily taking refuge abroad, came together to ensure that the youth of our country will never have to live under tyranny and fear. The diaspora community rallied around them so their voices of revolution could be heard globally.
By doing this, we reaffirm our right to resist dictatorship and show the world that the people continue to stand in support. This proves that the next generation will rise against all forms of oppression.
The truth will never disappear, no matter where it is spoken. This concert was organized with determination to deliver that message. The dedication of these young performers created a night of joy, art, and unity for people of all ages. On behalf of the organizing team, we extend our deepest respect to everyone who joined and supported.”

📌📌 4. China’s “Great Internet Firewall” Granted the Illegal Military Junta Control Over the Online Activities of 33.5 Million Internet Users
September 16
Justice For Myanmar has revealed that China’s “Great Internet Firewall” has enabled the illegal military junta to exert control over the online activities of 33.5 million internet users.
Geedge Networks, a company in China, has commercially exported and sold the country’s surveillance and censorship “Great Firewall” system to Myanmar, thereby granting the junta unprecedented capacity to monitor and control the online activities of Myanmar’s 33.5 million internet users.
Geedge’s primary partner is the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC), which is under the junta’s control through the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC). The junta unlawfully seized control of this ministry following the February 2021 coup attempt.
The MOTC handles digital infrastructure, international cooperation, and “lawful interception” mechanisms, enabling the junta to monitor phone calls and online activities in real time.
A total of 13 telecom companies operating in Myanmar have reportedly installed and operated Geedge’s advanced surveillance and censorship technologies on behalf of the junta.
Justice For Myanmar has urged that sanctions should be imposed on Geedge Networks and its leadership for their role in enabling the junta’s oppressive surveillance.
