According to Arakan Princess Media, the Arakan Army (AA) has continued mine clearance operations in Buthidaung Township, Rakhine State.
On September 10 and 13, clearance operations were carried out around the Tharyarpin (Ywar Thit) school compound, during which one 9-inch directional mine and five 2-inch mines, along with other buried landmines, were successfully removed.
It is reported that during the conflict, the junta troops deliberately planted landmines in forests, hills, farmlands, and fields around their stationed areas and along their withdrawal routes. In addition, they recklessly abandoned unexploded ordnance.
As a result of these inhumane acts by the terrorist military, many local residents who depend on the forest and hills for their livelihood have lost their lives or been injured by landmine explosions while collecting firewood or foraging for food.
The Rakhine People’s Revolutionary Government has been organizing mine risk awareness talks, erecting warning signs, and distributing mine safety awareness pamphlets across townships. Meanwhile, Arakan Army troops are persistently carrying out mine clearance operations.
