🚩🚩 1. Two junta troops (one officer, one soldier) killed under command of PDF’s Battalion Command No. 102

August 24

The Information Department of the People’s Defense Force (PDF) announced today, August 24, that under the supervision of Battalion Command No. 102, one junta officer and one soldier were killed, with others injured.

According to the statement, in the early hours of the morning, PDF forces attacked a junta checkpoint where troops from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 589, based in Donzarit Village, Shwekyin Township, eastern Bago Region, were stationed. These junta troops had been extorting travelers and collecting illegal tolls. During the raid, one officer and one soldier were confirmed dead, while other troops were also injured.

The PDF noted that since mid-2023, LIB 589 troops have been blocking inter-village roads, unlawfully arresting and extorting civilians, and forcibly collecting tolls. Since early this year, they have also been conscripting youths by force.

The attack on the checkpoint was carried out jointly by PDF Battalion No. 81 and local resistance groups beginning at 3:10 a.m. Two junta troops were killed, while others — some of whom were intoxicated and asleep inside the checkpoint at the time — sustained injuries. The PDF forces successfully withdrew without casualties. Junta forces have since tightened security in Donzarit and surrounding villages.

August 24

The Mandalay District PDF Battalion No. 5 reported on August 23 that six additional junta soldiers were killed when resistance forces ambushed a column of junta troops, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia departing Sone Village, Nganzun Township, Myingyan District, Mandalay Region.

On August 21, around noon, about 18 junta soldiers, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia left Sone Village by motorcycle and a Toyota Hilux heading toward Ngan Myar Gyi police station. They were ambushed by resistance forces. In that clash, eight were killed and several others seriously wounded.

Resistance forces captured 3 G3 rifles, 1 MA-11 rifle, 5 magazines, 47 rounds of G3 ammunition, and one motorcycle.

🚩🚩 3. Resistance forces urge civilians to stay cautious as large junta convoy leaves Pakokku and moves toward Pakokku–Pauk road

August 24

Local resistance forces have warned civilians to exercise extreme caution after a large junta military convoy that had been stationed in Pauk moved out this morning toward Pakokku.

According to local sources, the convoy — consisting of over 100 vehicles — left the Pauk-based Defense Industry Factory (Ka Pa Sa-24) around 7:00 a.m. on August 24 and reached Yar Gyi Pin Village around 10:00 a.m.

Around 70 junta troops crossed Ohn Taw Bridge and were seen advancing into the eucalyptus forest west of the bridge, while others were reported to be stationed at Inn Taw Monastery.

The convoy also included non-CDM government staff and teachers, as well as leading Pyu Saw Htee militia members, cronies, and civilians’ vehicles that were commandeered and forced to join the convoy, according to the Northern Pauk PDF Guerrilla Force.

Reports indicate that junta outposts have now been reinforced near Ohn Taw Village, Ohn Taw Bridge, the eucalyptus forest, Pho Phyu Lake, Pe Khun Nhit Pin, Buddha Hill, and along the Ye Byaw main road.

Resistance forces cautioned that junta troops are wearing PDF uniforms, making it dangerous for villagers if the soldiers attempt to enter communities disguised as resistance fighters. Civilians have been urged to verify carefully before allowing entry and to remain highly alert when traveling.

Although Pakokku and Pauk are only about 50 miles apart, due to repeated mine attacks by resistance forces along the route, the junta convoy took nearly three months to move from Pakokku to the Ka Pa Sa-24 factory in Pauk.

When the convoy first entered Pauk from Pakokku, it conducted indiscriminate airstrikes and artillery shelling on nearby villages, which caused civilian casualties and forced many to flee their homes.

🚩🚩 4. Urban guerrilla groups attack Insein Myothit-G Ward Administration Office with hand grenades

August 24

According to Yangon urban resistance groups, the Insein Township, Myothit-G Ward Administration Office in Yangon was attacked with hand grenades by urban guerrilla units.

The guerrillas stated that the office staff, including the ward administrator, had been actively assisting the junta in preparing for its illegal election and had also been involved in abducting youths and selling them off to military service. Therefore, on the night of August 23, at around 10:00 p.m., they carried out a heavy attack using two powerful hand grenades.

It is reported that Ko Phyo Zinn, a disciple of Kyin Hote, who serves as the ward administrator under the junta, has been armed and notorious for forcibly abducting youths and handing them over for recruitment in exchange for money.

Resistance forces said the attack was targeted not only because of their collaboration with the junta’s sham election but also because of their involvement in youth trafficking and forced conscription.

The operation was jointly carried out by the Yangon Army and the Western District PDF. The extent of damage and casualties is not yet known.

Resistance sources added that on August 2, Yangon Army and the Western District PDF had also attacked junta soldiers stationed at the Immigration Office in Dagon Myothit (South) Township, who were working for the junta’s election preparation, using heavy hand grenades.

They stressed that they will continue to target both military-linked offices and individuals involved in the junta’s illegal election activities.
