📌📌 1. IEC sends a message of honor marking the 2nd Anniversary of the Establishment of the Interim Karenni Parliament
August 24
On the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of the Interim Karenni Parliament, the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC) has issued a message of honor.
The IEC recalled that the Interim Karenni Parliament was founded with the objective of ending dictatorship, securing the right to self-determination and self-administration, and paving the way for a federal system. Today, August 24, marks its second anniversary.
According to the IEC, over the past two years, in line with Karenni State’s interim arrangements, the Interim Parliament has managed to enact essential laws urgently needed for Karenni State. Furthermore, it has taken the lead in practicing mutual checks and balances across the three pillars of legislature, judiciary, and executive functions.
Therefore, the IEC urged that, moving forward, the Interim Parliament should continue to spearhead legislative processes that will further strengthen and safeguard Karenni State’s right to self-determination.

📌📌 2. KSCC vows to block the junta’s planned elections in Karenni State by all possible means
August 24
The Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) announced today, August 24, that it will block by all possible means the elections that the terrorist military junta seeks to hold in Karenni State.
According to the KSCC statement, the election results—intended as a political escape route for the junta—will not resolve Myanmar’s political crisis. Instead, such elections would only prolong warfare, worsen instability, and deepen the suffering of the people.
The KSCC pointed out that even now, the junta is deliberately targeting civilians in revolutionary areas with airstrikes and heavy artillery, placing countless lives at grave risk.
The statement stressed that supporting or endorsing the junta’s elections will not reflect the will of the Myanmar people. Rather, it would merely facilitate the military’s interference in politics and extend the life of military dictatorship. The KSCC therefore called on the international community to exert strong pressure on the junta to face reality and abandon its illegitimate plans.
The KSCC further urged the entire Karenni population to collectively oppose and resist the junta’s election.
It recalled that the military had staged its unlawful coup after alleging fraud in the 2020 elections, and has since declared that it will begin holding phased elections on December 28 this year, as announced on August 18.
The junta has designated the entirety of Karenni State—despite it being an active war zone—as a single constituency. The first phase of elections, set for December 28, will reportedly include Loikaw and Bawlake townships.
