{"id":9940,"date":"2026-08-18T09:05:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T02:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/moemaka.net\/eng\/?p=9940"},"modified":"2026-08-18T09:05:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T02:35:28","slug":"august-18-2026-m-cdm-domestic-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/moemaka.net\/eng\/2026\/08\/august-18-2026-m-cdm-domestic-news\/","title":{"rendered":"August 18, 2026 (m.CDM Domestic News)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four civilians killed in Pinlebu airstrikes; another civilian shot dead in Ye-U*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four civilians, including a child, were reportedly killed when junta aircraft bombed Kan Pan village in southern Pinlebu Township, Sagaing Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At around 3 p.m. on August 16, fighter jets reportedly dropped at least 10 bombs and fired machine guns at the village. A school, hospital and at least 15 homes were damaged. Four civilians were killed and at least 13 others injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further airstrikes were reported on August 17 against a hospital in Mansi Lay village and the villages of Let Se Kan and Mya Zedi in northern Pinlebu. Residents had reportedly evacuated beforehand, and no casualties were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Separately, junta troops stationed at a checkpoint in flood-affected Ye-U reportedly opened fire on two men riding a motorcycle on August 17, killing one of them. An airstrike was also reported in Sinbyukyun Township, Magway Region, despite no fighting being reported in the area at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Woman injured in airstrike on Rathedaung village<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A 48-year-old woman was injured and three homes damaged when a military fighter jet bombed Auk Zee Kaing village in Rathedaung Township, Rakhine State, according to the Arakan Army\u2019s information service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The attack occurred shortly before noon on August 17. The Arakan Army also said airstrikes around Thandwe on August 16 killed a father and son and injured six other civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report says continued air attacks on areas controlled by the Arakan Army have resulted in increasing civilian casualties and property damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>KNLA-led forces attack military reinforcements heading toward Hpapun<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joint forces led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) attacked a junta column attempting to reinforce Hpapun in KNU Brigade 5 territory, according to the Karen Information Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fighting reportedly occurred near Wah Tho Kho village on August 16, with resistance forces capturing eight firearms. The military column was reported to be stalled in the Hpa Lone area after coming under repeated attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The military has reportedly been sending large numbers of troops along the Hpapun\u2013Kamamaung route since May in an effort to reinforce its positions around Hpapun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Military column commander shot dead in Myaung<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A junta column commander known as \u201cSniper Zaw Gyi\u201d was shot dead while visiting a beauty salon in Myaung, Sagaing Region, according to the Myaung Ogre Column, a local resistance force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group said the commander entered the salon alone and in civilian clothes at around 11:15 a.m. on August 17. Resistance members entered the shop and shot him. They reportedly seized his motorcycle, phone and other belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the shooting, troops from the nearby police station reportedly opened fire, but the resistance members escaped. Family members associated with the beauty salon were later detained and taken to the police station, according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Resistance group tests \u201cAI Fusion Drone\u201d against Taungoo Air Base<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Warazain resistance group said it conducted an experimental attack against the junta\u2019s Taungoo Air Base in Bago Region using what it described as an advanced <em>Hybrid AI Fusion Drone<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The drone was launched at around 2 p.m. on August 16. The group claimed it successfully passed through multiple layers of air-defense systems but exhausted its power and crashed about 400 meters from an area where fighter aircraft were stationed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the drone did not reach its intended target, the group said the test produced important technical data for further research. It also reported challenging weather conditions, including strong headwinds, clouds and humidity above 90 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Leaked documents reportedly show heavy reliance on newly conscripted troops<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leaked military documents reportedly indicate that newly conscripted soldiers now make up as much as <em>70\u201380 percent of some junta combat columns<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One reported example involved Infantry Battalion 83 operating in Wetlet Township. Of a 100-member column, only three were officers and 17 were veteran soldiers, while the remaining 80 were newly conscripted personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CDM Captain Zin Yaw said shortages of officers had also resulted in militia members being assigned platoon-level leadership roles and that some columns reportedly lacked medical officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report also marked the 78th anniversary of Karenni Army Day and the fourth anniversary of the establishment of Karenni Army Battalion 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Villagers reportedly forced to flee amid fighting in Ywangan<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents in several villages in Ywangan Township, southern Shan State, have reportedly fled after military troops ordered civilians to leave their communities amid fighting with resistance forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Danu-based PDF Battalion 1003, clashes occurred between Ale Chaung and Phaya Gyi Kone villages. On August 16, military personnel reportedly forced residents from Ale Chaung, Myay Ni Kone and Lu villages to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The resistance group advised displaced residents to take identification documents, valuables and other important belongings with them when evacuating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>CRPH sends message marking 78th Karenni Army Day<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) sent a message marking the 78th anniversary of Karenni Army Day on August 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CRPH praised the Karenni Army and Karenni people for their role in successive resistance movements and expressed confidence that they would continue contributing to efforts to end military dictatorship and establish a federal democratic union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The message noted that the Karenni Army was established on August 17, 1948, as part of the struggle for Karenni independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>CRPH delegation meets Thai MPs over displaced people and migrant workers<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A CRPH delegation met Thai members of parliament in Bangkok to discuss Myanmar\u2019s political situation, displaced civilians and Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delegation, led by CRPH Secretariat member Phyu Phyu Thin, met Thai MPs at the House of Representatives on August 14. Discussions covered future cooperation between the two countries and assistance for people displaced by the conflict in Myanmar and along the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delegation also discussed assistance for resistance fighters who have lost limbs and educational opportunities for the children of Myanmar migrant workers living in Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Rice distributed to flood-affected families in Khin-U<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local administrative and defense organizations provided 130 bags of rice to nearly 800 flood-affected households in four villages in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The assistance was supported through humanitarian funding from the NUG, the Sagaing Federal Unit, local organizations and private donors. Children in affected communities were also provided with snacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Junta reportedly deepens technology and economic ties with Russia<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Justice For Myanmar (JFM) says Myanmar\u2019s military authorities are expanding cooperation with Russia beyond military affairs into technology and economic sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to JFM, the junta has contracted Russia\u2019s <em>Astra Group<\/em>, which is sanctioned by the United States and Canada, in connection with developing a \u201cNational Single Window\u201d online system for processing import and export documentation and linking government agencies involved in trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">JFM raised concerns that sensitive information belonging to traders\u2014including identification details, passport copies and banking information\u2014could potentially be exposed through the system because of Astra Group\u2019s reported links with Russian military and intelligence agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">JFM called on the EU, UK and Australia to impose sanctions similar to those already introduced by the United States and Canada against Astra Group and related entities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Four civilians killed in Pinlebu airstrikes; another civilian shot dead in Ye-U* Four civilians, including a child, were reportedly killed when junta aircraft bombed Kan Pan village in southern Pinlebu Township, Sagaing Region.
