More than 30 clashes reported in Magway, with at least 50 junta troops reportedly killed*<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 30 clashes have taken place between resistance forces and Myanmar military troops operating in Magway Region, leaving at least 50 junta soldiers dead, according to a statement issued by Myaing Township People\u2019s Defense Organization (Pa Ka Pha) on August 15. Four members of pro-military forces also reportedly defected without weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The military column, reportedly numbering around 500 troops, has been operating in Magway since May. Resistance groups said fighting occurred along several routes through Myaing and Pauk townships. They also reported capturing weapons and ammunition during the clashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A large number of resistance organizations, including Magway-based defense forces, the Bamar People\u2019s Liberation Army (BPLA), ABSDF and several local PDF battalions, participated in the operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Myaing Pa Ka Pha alleged that military columns burned around 300 civilian homes in 11 villages in Pauk and Myaing and killed 24 civilians. Residents along military routes were urged to remain alert and take appropriate security precautions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PDF forces intercept military reinforcements in Saw Township<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Resistance forces said they intercepted a junta reinforcement column traveling from Saw toward Laung She in Magway Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the NUG Ministry of Defense\u2019s Gangaw District command, fighting began after PDF units attacked the column on July 29. A soldier from Light Infantry Battalion 573 was captured alive, along with an MA-1 rifle, magazines, mines, RPG ammunition, 40mm grenades and other equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Further clashes occurred after the military sent additional forces on July 31. Resistance forces said they recovered another MA-1 rifle and additional ammunition during subsequent clearance operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The statement also said some military conscripts defected during the operation and were being cared for, with arrangements made to return those wishing to go home to their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Two Pyu Saw Htee members killed after reportedly escaping custody<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Two detained Pyu Saw Htee members from Nyaung-U Township were killed after escaping from custody in the Myit Chay area of Pakokku Township, according to the Ayeyar Daung People\u2019s Defense Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The group said the two escaped early on August 14 and resisted when resistance members later located and attempted to recapture them. They were subsequently shot and killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the resistance group, the two had previously accompanied military columns and had admitted involvement in burning civilian homes and taking civilian property. They had originally been captured in May along with two AK rifles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kawthaung NLD treasurer dies from injuries reportedly sustained during interrogation<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n U Yin Htwe, treasurer of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Kawthaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, died on August 14 while receiving treatment at Kawthaung General Hospital, according to people close to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He had been detained following the 2021 military coup and was released under an amnesty about eight months ago. According to the report, his health remained poor because of injuries allegedly sustained during interrogation, requiring continuing medical treatment after his release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Residents in eastern Singu urged to temporarily evacuate<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The TRI Strategy resistance force has warned civilians living on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwady River in Singu Township, Mandalay Region, to temporarily move to safer areas ahead of planned military operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The group said it intends to attack areas where junta forces are based and operating, using both heavy and small arms. Residents were urged to stay away from military positions from August 14 until authorities announce that it is safe to return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n TRI said the warning was issued in accordance with international humanitarian law and as part of efforts to protect civilians during military operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Interim Federal Education Council forms executive committee<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Interim Federal Education Council (iFEC), which includes the NUG Ministry of Education, ethnic and federal education organizations, teachers and student unions, has formed a new executive committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The council said the committee was established following an August 11 plenary meeting to accelerate implementation of federal democratic education policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr. Thein Lwin was appointed chair, with Dr. Moe San and teacher Mai Ei serving as vice chairs. The council said the executive committee would not override its principle of equality and shared decision-making and that additional education organizations would continue to be invited to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Three arrested over killing and concealment of body in Launglon<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Launglon Township People\u2019s Security Force said three people have been arrested in connection with the killing of a man and the concealment of his body in Tanintharyi Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to its account, an argument occurred on August 1 after several men had been drinking together. One suspect allegedly stabbed the victim twice in the chest with a screwdriver. The victim was then reportedly tied with a rope and his body dragged beneath a bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Following a missing-person report, local security forces investigated and arrested three suspects between August 12 and 14. The group said legal proceedings were continuing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Flood relief provided in Depayin Township<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Local administrative and defense organizations are providing assistance to flood-affected villages in Depayin Township, Sagaing Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Township authorities said local donors, residents and resistance-linked administrative and security organizations were distributing rice, cooking oil, salt, dried fish, instant noodles, canned fish and other essential food supplies directly to affected communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The statement praised residents of central Myanmar for supporting one another while facing the combined effects of conflict, airstrikes, fires and flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Military airstrike reported in SSPP area of Kutkai Township<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Myanmar military aircraft reportedly bombed an area where the Shan State Progress Party\/Shan State Army (SSPP\/SSA) operates in Kutkai Township, northern Shan State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At around 7:40 p.m. on August 14, a fighter jet reportedly dropped two bombs near Ti Mar and Naung Inn villages in the Namphatka village tract. Information about casualties was still being investigated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Local sources said both SSPP\/SSA and KIO\/KIA forces operate in the area, although the SSPP has a stronger presence. The reported attack came after a second round of talks between the SSPP and the junta\u2019s peace negotiation team in Naypyidaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Junta disputes UNHCR figures on Rohingya refugees<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Myanmar\u2019s military authorities rejected figures indicating that more than one million Rohingya refugees from Myanmar are currently in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The junta\u2019s Foreign Ministry claimed that approximately 540,000 people fled Buthidaung, Maungdaw and Rathedaung townships in 2017 and argued that the refugee issue should be resolved bilaterally between Myanmar and Bangladesh without international intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The report contrasts this with UNHCR figures indicating that more than 1.18 million Rohingya refugees<\/em> were in Bangladesh as of June.
