The victims included Battalion Chairman Ko Ba Phyo, resistance fighter Mae Gyi, and a displaced civilian.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to local sources, tensions had developed after members of the newly formed Black Dragon Force (BDF) entered Mankyi Khin village fully armed for organizational activities. CDF-KKG reportedly objected to armed entry into the village. The two sides later arranged to meet, after which the killings occurred. BDF members reportedly fled the area, and resistance checkpoints were alerted to search for them.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">**Military officer killed in Taungtha**<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">A Myanmar military warrant officer accused of threatening and extorting money from civilians was killed during an attempted arrest by the Taung Tha People\u2019s Defense Force (TTA-PDF) in Mandalay Region.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The officer, Maung Thein of Infantry Battalion 78, was stationed at a gas pipeline facility in Aye Ywar. TTA-PDF said its members attempted to capture him alive on the morning of August 13, but a firefight broke out after he resisted with a hand grenade. He was shot while allegedly preparing another grenade. The resistance group said it recovered a grenade, a motorcycle and some cash.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">**Fighting near Lamaing leaves casualties on both sides**<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Resistance forces reported that six junta soldiers were killed and three wounded during fighting near Aung Thabyay Ywar Haung in Lamaing Township, Mon State. Two resistance fighters from the Ramanya Mon Army (RMA) Battalion 901 were also killed.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The approximately 20-minute clash occurred on August 8 when a military column of around 100 troops entered the area. The Ye Guerrilla Force, Mon State Revolutionary Force and RMA Battalion 901 participated in the joint operation.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">**Heavy fighting reported in Momeik**<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) reported heavy fighting after junta troops advanced into areas of Momeik Township in northern Shan State. Fighting took place near Auk Nyaung Ni village on August 10 in an area where KIA Brigade 4, Battalion 34 operates.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to the KIA, the military used Mi-35 attack helicopters and Y-12 aircraft during the fighting. Local reports also said the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) participated in fighting against junta forces.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">**Young people reportedly seized for military recruitment**<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Reports of forced recruitment continue across Myanmar as the military prepares for its 28th round of conscription.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In Salin Township, Magway Region, troops reportedly attempted to seize young men working in fields on August 11. A 23-year-old man, Maung Min Than Oo, was allegedly shot dead while trying to escape. Local sources said the military refused to return his body to his family unless they paid one million kyat.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Separately, eight young men traveling on a passenger vehicle from Yangon to Myawaddy were reportedly pulled from the vehicle and detained between Naung Lon and Ein Nu villages on August 10.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In Yangon Region\u2019s Htantabin Township, 20-year-old Ko Hlaing Myo Tun, who reportedly supported his disabled elderly mother, has also been missing since leaving home on August 10.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">**Two displaced civilians killed in drone attack in Karenni State**<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Two internally displaced people were killed when the military attacked a displacement camp in eastern Loikaw Township with explosive drones, according to the Karenni emergency relief coordination group CTER.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The August 11 attack reportedly involved three explosive drones. A woman and a man were killed, while two men were wounded.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">CTER also reported other recent attacks in Karenni State, including an August 4 drone strike on Daw Ku Lel village that killed five displaced family members, including a six-month-old baby. Some schools have temporarily closed because of increased aerial surveillance and drone attacks.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">**Civilian casualties reported across several regions**<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Military airstrikes and artillery attacks in Chin, Kachin and Rakhine states and Mandalay and Sagaing regions reportedly killed at least two civilians and injured 14 others.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In Sami, Chin State, a 16-year-old girl was killed and eight civilians wounded in a reported jet strike late on August 12. A monastery in Shwegu Township, Kachin State, was also hit with a 500-pound bomb, although no casualties were reported.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Airstrikes were additionally reported in Gwa Township, Rakhine State, while drone attacks in Singu Township damaged homes and oil-processing facilities and wounded two women. Artillery and air attacks were also reported in flood-affected areas of Mandalay and Sagaing regions.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">**NUG provides healthcare to flood victims in Sagaing**<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The National Unity Government\u2019s Ministry of Health said healthcare workers are operating mobile clinics for flood-affected communities in the Sagaing Federal Unit.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Other local groups have also provided medicine and healthcare services in Ye-U Township. Resistance and community organizations appealed for additional food, clean drinking water, oral rehydration salts, medicine and other emergency assistance for flood victims.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In Khin-U Township, where floodwaters have begun to recede, local authorities said communities still face serious health and humanitarian needs. Around 19 villages between the Mu River and the DY1 tributary were affected by flooding for five to seven days. Local administrative and defense groups provided food, transportation and emergency assistance and appealed for continued public support during the recovery period.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">**Kim Aris welcomes IIMM report**<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Kim Aris, the son of detained State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, welcomed the annual report of the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) and questioned whether world leaders would continue to recognize and engage with military chief Min Aung Hlaing.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Aris highlighted findings concerning alleged deliberate attacks on civilians, systematic torture and sexual violence. He asked whether international leaders would continue welcoming and shaking hands with Min Aung Hlaing and thereby give legitimacy to his rule.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">IIMM head Nicholas Koumjian said investigators are paying particular attention to airstrikes on populated areas and examining who ordered such attacks and how the military\u2019s command structure operates.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">**Yangon resistance groups call for public support for protests**<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Four Yangon resistance groups urged residents to support peaceful anti-junta protest activities and refrain from disrupting them.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The appeal followed an incident during an activity marking the 38th anniversary of the 1988 uprising, in which a member of the public reportedly kicked a projector displaying revolutionary historical material.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<p dir=\"auto\">The groups said activists in Yangon continue organizing despite the danger of arrest and other difficulties, and called on the public to respect peaceful expression even when individuals hold different political views.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three killed in assassination in Gangaw** Three people, including the chairman of Battalion 6 of the Chin Defense Force\u2013KKG (Kalay, Kabaw, Gangaw), were reportedly shot dead in Gangaw Township, Magway Region, late on August 12.
