Today\u2019s major stories include: two civilians killed in an overnight airstrike in Ann Township; more than 200,000 people affected by flooding across Sagaing, Mandalay and Ayeyarwady regions; more than 20 junta personnel captured or defecting during fighting along the Saw\u2013Laung She road; and attacks on junta troops and allied militia positions in Tanai, Meiktila and Simi Khon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Arakan Army (AA) said two civilians were killed when Myanmar military forces carried out an overnight airstrike on Taling Taung village in Ann Township, Rakhine State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At around 9:30 p.m. on August 8, a fighter jet reportedly dropped two bombs on the residential village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The explosions completely destroyed the home and vehicle workshop of Ko Aung Paing. His 67-year-old mother, Daw Ma Lay Nge, and a 23-year-old worker, Maung Maung Nyan, were killed at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ko Aung Paing\u2019s wife and daughter, along with another worker, Maung Tun Tun Win, were also injured. Five vehicles parked at the workshop were damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 20 junta personnel have either defected or been captured as prisoners during fighting along the Saw\u2013Laung She road in Magway Region, according to Saya Zin Ko Win, an official with the People\u2019s Defence Force\u2019s Gangaw District military command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said resistance forces had been preparing since May to defend the area against military offensives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, resistance forces have seized weapons and ammunition while taking a number of prisoners and accepting defectors. He said 21 captured or defected personnel were currently in their custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PDF forces in Magway Region and Gangaw District continue to resist military offensives involving significant troop numbers and weapons along the Saw\u2013Laung She road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On July 16, approximately 300 troops from the military\u2019s Division 99 reportedly advanced from Laung She toward Saw but were forced to withdraw after clashes with PDF forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A second offensive involving around 180 troops, supported by air power, began on July 25. Resistance forces said they again inflicted significant losses and forced the column to retreat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the withdrawal, PDF forces said they pursued the troops and conducted clearance operations, seizing weapons, ammunition, three supply vehicles, food supplies and military equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least two clashes were reported between junta forces and resistance groups in Ye Township, Mon State, with casualties reported on both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At around 6:30 a.m. on August 8, troops advancing from Kywe Ta Lin village toward Yar Phu village were ambushed by KNLA Battalion 27 and the Ye Belu Battalion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Resistance sources said two junta soldiers were killed and three wounded, while resistance fighters withdrew without casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At around 11:30 a.m., another military column from Infantry Battalion 106 was attacked near old Aung Thabyay village by a joint force involving Ramanya Mon Army Battalion 901, the Mon State Revolutionary Force and PDF Strategy 33\u2019s Battalion 8001, also known as YGF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Junta forces reportedly suffered casualties, while two Ramanya Mon Army fighters\u2014Kyaw Swar Win, also known as Jay Gyi, and Thaw Zin, also known as Ayeyar\u2014were killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Separately, a 29-year-old woman from Thanbyuzayat Township, Ma Phue Pwint Wai, also known as Thamee Pu, was arrested after allegedly posting a supportive comment on the Ye Belu social-media page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She has reportedly been charged under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law at Thanbyuzayat police station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five members of the Min Zay Thant militia were reportedly killed when KIA-led forces attacked their base at Shahtu Zup village in Tanai Township, Kachin State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attack took place at around 5:30 p.m. on August 8 and reportedly involved 10 drones and 107-mm artillery. At least five militia members were killed and more than 10 seriously wounded, according to local sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the attack, the Min Zay Thant militia was accused of detaining and killing four Kachin youths and of arresting and assaulting local community elders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elsewhere in Tanai Township, KIA Battalion 14 reportedly intercepted a junta column advancing toward the Lapu Hka amber-mining area and forced it to retreat after suffering casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Mandalay Region\u2019s Meiktila Township, the \ud83d\ude2d.A PDF drone unit said it dropped two bombs on a junta position at Yay Cho Ywama village on the night of July 30, killing two soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On August 8, PDF forces also ambushed Pyu Saw Htee militia members patrolling farmland between Sone village and Phet Pin Ai village in the Simi Khon area, reportedly wounding three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later that day, one Pyu Saw Htee member from Sone village reportedly defected with a G-3 rifle, four magazines and approximately 200 rounds of ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, resistance authorities in Monywa Township warned that frequent clashes are occurring around the junta position inside the Kyaukka Shweguni Pagoda compound. The surrounding area has been designated an operational zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because landmines have reportedly been deployed in the area, travel along the Htanong Win\u2013Kyaukka\u2013Yenan Kone road has been suspended indefinitely, and civilians have been urged to avoid the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NUG and resistance organizations are carrying out rescue and relief operations along the Mu River in Sagaing Region, where flooding has reportedly killed 13 people and affected more than 100,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nearly 200 villages, including communities in Kanbalu, Taze, Shwebo and Depayin townships, have been flooded. The report attributed the flooding in part to water released from the Thaphanseik Dam without advance warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NUG Ministry of Defence, local People\u2019s Defence Teams and other resistance organizations are conducting emergency rescue operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local relief groups say food, drinking water, medicine and temporary shelters are urgently needed as water levels have risen rapidly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Snakebite risks are also increasing, while disrupted transportation has made access to medical care difficult. Relief groups say antivenom is urgently needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NUG and local resistance organizations have appealed for public assistance for communities already displaced by conflict and now facing severe flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Joint Emergency Response Committee, or JERC, has been established to coordinate assistance for communities affected by severe flooding across the Sagaing Federal Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Serious flooding has affected townships including Taze, Kanbalu, Kyunhla, Ayadaw, Khin-U, Ye-U, Shwebo, Wetlet, Myinmu and Depayin, damaging farmland and leaving tens of thousands of people in need of emergency assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Unity Government and Sagaing Federal Unit government jointly established the JERC on August 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee says it will coordinate humanitarian assistance, monitor damage and needs in real time, and seek to prevent both duplication and gaps in aid distribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Township-level teams will also be formed to prioritize vulnerable groups and distribute essential food, medicines and drinking water, while longer-term rehabilitation work is also planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continued heavy rain has caused water levels to rise again in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region, creating serious shelter and health problems for elderly people, women and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Khin-U Township information team, heavy rainfall has caused streams in the western part of the township to overflow, inundating rice nurseries and farmland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although water levels in some villages along the Mu River and the DY-1 embankment had fallen slightly, continued rain caused them to rise again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eighteen villages are currently affected, and thousands of residents have been displaced for several days. Difficult travel conditions, inadequate shelter and illness among displaced residents have increased the need for food and medical assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local groups are appealing for emergency support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 200,000 people in 10 townships across Sagaing, Mandalay and Ayeyarwady regions have been affected by flooding and urgently need assistance, according to the National Unity Government\u2019s ministry responsible for social affairs, labour and humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Figures collected through August 8 indicate that approximately 224,847 people have been affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Heavy rainfall and water releases from dams have caused widespread flooding, resulting in deaths, damaged homes and emergency evacuations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The most urgent needs include drinking water, food, medicine, fuel, tarpaulins and temporary shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another 17 townships across the three regions are also experiencing flooding in low-lying areas. Authorities say they are continuing to monitor conditions and carry out emergency response operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NUG has also warned that the southwest monsoon could strengthen again around August 12 due to a monsoon trough extending from Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Continued rainfall could raise water levels in tributaries of the Salween and Ayeyarwady rivers. Communities along the Ayeyarwady River in Magway Region have therefore been advised to closely monitor weather and river conditions and prepare to evacuate if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Salingyi Township People\u2019s Administration has urged residents in riverside and low-lying communities to prepare food, medicine and drinking water as the Chindwin River continues to rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Heavy rainfall in upper Sagaing Region, combined with rising levels in the Mu and Ayeyarwady rivers, could slow the Chindwin\u2019s flow and cause water levels to rise higher than previously forecast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to make advance arrangements for children, elderly people and anyone who may need assistance during an emergency evacuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Salingyi People\u2019s Administration says it is closely monitoring river conditions, while emergency rescue teams have been organized in communities along the upper, middle and lower Chindwin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents have also been urged to move valuables, important documents and essential supplies to higher and safer locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Medicines, clean drinking water, flashlights and other emergency supplies should be prepared in advance. Families are also encouraged to move children, elderly people and pregnant women to safer locations and to remain alert to snakes and other dangerous animals displaced by floodwaters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
