Five civilians were reportedly killed and several others injured in airstrikes carried out by the military in Khin-U and Wetlet townships in Sagaing Region and Thandwe Township in Rakhine State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At around 2 p.m. on July 30, a fighter jet reportedly dropped three bombs on Htanoungkaing village in Khin-U Township. A 50-year-old man, U Maung Maung, was killed at the scene, while a 60-year-old woman was injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later that evening, two fighter jets reportedly dropped four bombs on Ngapat Chaung village in Wetlet Township. A 76-year-old man, U Than Lwin, suffered serious head injuries from bomb fragments, and three houses were damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On July 31, military aircraft reportedly attacked Shwe Hlay village in Thandwe Township with two 300-pound bombs and another 500-pound bomb. Four people were killed, including a 37-year-old couple who owned a grocery shop, a 17-year-old shop worker and another local resident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A one-year-old child and a 50-year-old man were also seriously injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two military personnel were reportedly killed when resistance fighters carried out a mine attack on troops providing security for a convoy travelling from the Northwestern Regional Military Command in Monywa to the 33rd Light Infantry Division in Sagaing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Eagle Brotherhood Guerrilla Force\u2013Sagaing said the attack took place near an irrigation embankment at the entrance to Kone Ywar village in Sagaing Township at around 11:15 a.m. on July 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group claimed that two soldiers were killed at the scene and several others were wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also said the military later fired artillery and small arms indiscriminately into nearby areas while retrieving the bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The resistance group urged soldiers and military conscripts to defect and join the people, warning that those who continued serving the military could be targeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pyay District Battalion 2 said it had shot and killed a former soldier accused of collecting intelligence on resistance organizations and passing the information to the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man, identified as Aung Tin Win, was a former member of Infantry Battalion 53 and lived in Aung Chan Thar village, Paukkaung Township, Bago Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the resistance group, he was shot by members of Company 3 under Strategy 21 at around 10:30 a.m. on July 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group alleged that Aung Tin Win had monitored resistance activities, recruited young people for pro-military militias and encouraged resistance fighters to surrender and defect to the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pyay District Battalion 2 warned people cooperating with the military to stop participating in activities that harm or oppress civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports circulated on social media that a Yangon urban guerrilla group sent a timed parcel bomb to the residence of former air force commander and current Defence Minister General Tun Aung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Citing unnamed security sources, several domestic news outlets reported that the parcel was delivered at around 4 p.m. on July 30 to a house on Thiri Mingalar Road in Kamayut Township. It was reportedly addressed to Tun Aung\u2019s wife, Daw Tin Moe Nwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About 15 minutes later, four military vehicles arrived, blocked the road and disposed of the explosive device, according to the reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The military had not issued an official statement on the incident as of midday on July 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sources said all members of the underground group involved in the operation had escaped safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tun Aung served as commander-in-chief of the air force from 2022 to 2024. Reports have identified him as a senior official during several deadly airstrikes, including attacks on Pazigyi village in Sagaing Region, Anang Pa in Kachin State, a displacement camp in Pekon Township, a school in Let Yet Kone village and Magyi village in Kani Township.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Yangon property is reportedly owned by Tun Aung and his wife, although the general is believed to live in a senior military residential compound near the military headquarters in Zeyathiri Township, Naypyidaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brigadier General Saw Kyaw Thet, a former commander of the White Tiger Column under the National Unity Government\u2019s Ministry of Defence, has rejoined his original organization, the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saw Kyaw Thet was expelled from the DKBA after fighting broke out with the Myanmar military along the Myawaddy\u2013Kawkareik Asian Highway in July 2015. He later operated independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the 2021 military coup, he joined forces with the Karen National Union and formed the White Tiger Column with young People\u2019s Defence Force members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He later served as a strategic commander under the NUG\u2019s southern military command but reportedly resigned when MOD battalions were reassigned to another military region in late 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The DKBA announced on July 31 that Saw Kyaw Thet and nearly 350 personnel had returned to the organization. He was appointed commander of Military Command No. 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The DKBA has instructed its forces not to participate in fighting in the Phalu area of Myawaddy Township and has also held talks with the military authorities in Naypyidaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Separately, military leader Min Aung Hlaing claimed in a speech marking his administration\u2019s first 100 days that the military had held peace talks with the Chin National Organization and Chin National Defence Force, or CNO\/CNDF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was the first time the military had publicly acknowledged as a negotiating party an ethnic armed organization formed after the 2021 coup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CNO\/CNDF official Salai Kyone Ngai later wrote on social media that, apart from feeling sorry toward fellow resistance fighters, he had a clear conscience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, both the Interim Chin National Consultative Council and the Chin Brotherhood, of which CNO\/CNDF is a member, denied making any collective decision to negotiate with the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CNO\/CNDF and allied forces captured Falam in 2025 but lost control of the town to the military in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U Aung Kyaw Moe has resigned from his position as deputy minister in the National Unity Government\u2019s Ministry of Human Rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He announced his decision on social media on July 31, saying that it was not the result of political disagreement, policy differences or conflict with NUG leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said he wanted to focus more directly and effectively on the national rights, political representation and dignity of the Rohingya people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aung Kyaw Moe joined the Spring Revolution after the 2021 military coup. He initially served as an adviser to the NUG before becoming the first Rohingya to hold a Union-level government position since 1962.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He thanked NUG leaders, ministers, ethnic organizations and civil society groups that had worked with him on human rights and federal democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said he would continue working to strengthen unity and political leadership within the Rohingya community, while cooperating with the NUG and other revolutionary organizations to build a federal democratic union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union has imposed sanctions on seven individuals and three organizations, including the DKBA, over alleged involvement in online scam centers, human trafficking, torture and other serious human rights abuses in Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The measures were announced on July 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EU said the DKBA protected online scam compounds in areas under its control and helped criminal networks detain trafficking victims and force them to participate in online fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EU also alleged that some DKBA personnel had committed violence against trafficking victims held inside the compounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other sanctioned entities included the Cambodia-based Prince Holding Group and its chairman Chen Zhi, as well as the Jin Bei Group and its chairman Zhu Zhongbiao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the EU, the Prince Holding Group used front companies to establish scam compounds in Cambodia and Myanmar where cryptocurrency investment fraud and other online scams were carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Victims were allegedly recruited with false job offers, trafficked and forced to defraud people around the world. Some were reportedly beaten, kidnapped and unlawfully detained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Jin Bei Group was also accused of operating casinos and scam centers in Cambodia that were used for cryptocurrency and other online fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sanctions include asset freezes. EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing funds or economic resources to those listed, while sanctioned individuals are barred from entering or travelling through EU territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents of Laymyethna Township in Ayeyarwady Region were told to evacuate after an embankment along the Ngawun River collapsed, allowing river water to flow into nearby residential and agricultural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The embankment reportedly began sinking and leaking on the afternoon of July 30 before breaking later that night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People living in low-lying wards and farmland areas were evacuated as emergency repair work began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flooding was also reported in Tachileik on the Myanmar\u2013Thailand border after the Mae Sai River rose and entered several urban wards, including San Sai Ward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Water began entering the town on the morning of July 31. On the Thai side of the border, residents in Mae Sai were also placing sandbags and making emergency preparations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Apauk Wa village, Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, erosion along the Kaladan River reportedly destroyed more than 30 houses and market stalls during July. Local residents are facing serious livelihood difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Bago, the river rose above the danger level, forcing nearly 5,000 residents from six wards to move to safer areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Heavy rain beginning on July 30 caused the river level to rise and water to enter several low-lying neighborhoods. A volunteer involved in rescue work said no official relief camps or significant assistance had yet been provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Karen National Union has urged neighboring countries and the international community to cooperate with local organizations genuinely working to eliminate transnational crime and online scam operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement issued on July 31, the KNU warned that online fraud networks along the Myanmar\u2013Thailand border were changing their methods and becoming an increasingly serious regional threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The military authorities had announced on July 25 that they had raided an online scam compound in the Kyauk Khat area. The announcement also accused the Karen National Liberation Army and People\u2019s Defence Forces of receiving money to protect scam operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The KNU rejected the accusation as baseless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It said the site was not connected to the KNU-administered Kyauk Khat area but was a scam compound overseen by the DKBA\u2019s chief of staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the KNU, it was one of several operations established by scam groups relocated from KK Park and Shwe Kokko after the military staged a highly publicized crackdown in late 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The KNU accused the military of carrying out superficial raids, arresting low-level workers instead of crime bosses and relocating people before demolishing buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It argued that such operations did not eliminate the scam networks but instead allowed them to spread to other parts of Karen State and elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The KNU said it would not permit online scam operations or related criminal activities in areas under its administration. It also urged residents to report suspicious or coercive land purchases to KNU authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organization called on the international community to carefully examine the military\u2019s claimed crackdowns and work directly with credible groups on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A former member of a local People\u2019s Defence Team in Gangaw Township, Magway Region, has been sentenced to 15 years\u2019 imprisonment with hard labour after being convicted of raping two civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect, identified as Maung Yaway Htun, also known as Lin Yone, was arrested on July 27 following an investigation by the Black Dragon Force, Senthang Revolution Force Battalion 3 and the Gangaw Township People\u2019s Security Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He had previously served with the Kyaw Taik People\u2019s Defence Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organizations involved said anyone who committed crimes against civilians would be investigated and punished according to the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a separate development, the military allegedly burned Pakhannge, also known as Bagan Nge village, on the banks of the Ayeyarwady River in Chauk Township on July 25, despite there being no fighting in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Around 100 houses, including historic buildings, were reportedly destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minbu District Battalion 1, together with local community leaders, later provided food, household supplies and medicine to displaced residents under a community assistance program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aid was delivered on July 26 and 28. The group also donated robes to a displaced Buddhist monk and provided medical treatment to affected residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
