A 36-year-old woman was killed in Ward 10, while another woman in Ward 6 was injured. Explosions were reported near the military hospital, the university campus, and two residential wards. It remains unclear which group launched the attack. Lashio is currently controlled by the Myanmar military, while the MNDAA maintains control over some surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, clashes continue near Yepaungmi Village in Homalin Township, along the Kachin–Sagaing border, where KIA-led allied forces have been conducting offensives against Myanmar military and Shan Ni Army (SNA) forces since July 7. On July 8, the military reportedly carried out airstrikes on a nearby gold mining area far from the battlefield, resulting in civilian casualties.
Local sources say communication restrictions imposed by the SNA have made it difficult to verify casualty figures. The KIA also reported that military operations and tensions remain high across multiple brigade areas in Kachin State, particularly around Shwegu, where fighting has continued for more than two months as the military attempts to reinforce Bhamo.
⸻

Naval Shelling Injures Six Civilians in Gwa Township
The Arakan Army (AA) said that Myanmar naval vessels fired nearly 90 rounds of artillery into Gwa Township on July 8, injuring six civilians, including a five-year-old child.
According to the AA, four naval vessels shelled coastal areas between Gwa and the Bawmi Beach area in Ayeyarwady Region for nearly six hours. Several shells struck civilian homes, causing injuries to women and children.
The AA also reported that two fighter jets carried out airstrikes over Gwa Township on the night of July 7. Three men and two women sustained shrapnel injuries but are reportedly in stable condition.
Humanitarian groups also report that more than 25,000 displaced people in Yaw Region, Mindat, and Kanpetlet are in urgent need of food, medicine, and shelter. Ongoing military offensives and increased airstrikes since mid-May have forced thousands to flee, while seasonal influenza has worsened conditions in displacement camps.
Aid workers are appealing for greater support from domestic and international donors to address the growing humanitarian crisis.
⸻

Airstrikes Hit Civilian Areas in KNU Myeik–Dawei District
The Karen National Union (KNU) reported that Myanmar military fighter jets dropped four 250-pound bombs on Kinni Kyun Village in Lay Mu Lar Township, Myeik–Dawei District, on July 8.
According to the KNU, the attack targeted a civilian village with no military objective. Although ground troops pulled back, artillery and missile attacks from nearby military positions have continued.
Karen military sources also alleged that the military deliberately fired shells into Thai territory to pressure KNLA forces. Explosions near Mae Kok Kha village prompted temporary evacuations and school closures, while Thai authorities reinforced border security.
Meanwhile, fighting remains active near Mawlu in Indaw Township. Airstrikes on Sipine Village reportedly damaged homes, while a separate drone strike killed a father and son working in their fields. Authorities continue to warn travelers along the Mandalay–Myitkyina highway to monitor the security situation closely.
⸻

Political Prisoners Reportedly Tortured at Kyaikmaraw Prison
The Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM) says political detainees at Kyaikmaraw Prison in Mon State continue to face torture and serious human rights violations.
According to the group, three political prisoners were placed in solitary confinement in April after being accused of pointing their feet toward a Buddhist shrine. Investigators traced shipments using leaked banking records, port documents, and vessel tracking data.
The investigation also claims that fuel originating from Iran has been routed through third countries before reaching Myanmar. It concludes that continued fuel supplies have enabled the military to sustain air operations despite increasing battlefield losses.
⸻

Experts Warn of Serious Flooding Risk in Rakhine State
The Global Flood Awareness System has warned that heavy rainfall could trigger severe flooding across Rakhine State between July 10 and 16.
Continuous rain has already caused flooding in some areas, and experts warn that river levels could reach record highs, potentially exceeding the highest levels seen in the past 20 years.
