We will now present today’s domestic news from m.CDM.

Today’s headlines include: heavy fighting in the Phalu–Min Let Pan area near the Thai border; civilian deaths and destruction after nearly a month of military operations in Mahlaing Township; criticism that the junta’s refusal to allow access to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi exposes the weakness of ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus; and youth activist Ko Nan Lin preparing to receive the NED Democracy Award on behalf of Myanmar’s pro-democracy community organizers.

Heavy fighting near Phalu–Min Let Pan

Heavy clashes have been reported near Phalu and Min Let Pan villages in Myawaddy Township, Karen State, between combined KNLA-PDF forces and junta troops.

Military sources said junta forces advanced from Lay Kay Kaw with around 50 military vehicles and hundreds of soldiers. Fighting began around 10 p.m. on July 7 and continued into the morning of July 8.

Junta troops reportedly suffered heavy casualties. Some were killed or wounded by mines, and several injured soldiers had to be carried out on stretchers. Karen military sources said the junta offensive involved troops from Divisions 22 and 44, Military Operations Commands 13 and 19, as well as allied BGF and DKBA splinter forces.

Some artillery and machine-gun rounds landed across the border in Huai Mahawong village, Mae Sot District, Thailand, damaging at least two homes. Thai authorities said no casualties were reported and border security has been reinforced.

Killing inside Sagaing PDF camp; sexual violence reported in Indaw

At a camp of NUG-affiliated Sagaing District Battalion 2, Company 4, a company commander named Nyo Chaw reportedly shot and killed a female comrade, Dawng Ni, who served as finance officer. He then attempted to shoot himself and is now receiving medical treatment.

The incident reportedly occurred on the morning of July 3 inside the camp. Some sources said Nyo Chaw accused Dawng Ni of betraying the revolution, while others said there may have been a personal relationship between them. The case is expected to be handled through relevant procedures if Nyo Chaw survives.

In a separate case, a Non-CDM schoolteacher in Aung Mingalar Ward, Indaw town, was reportedly sexually assaulted by five junta soldiers on the night of July 4. Local reports said the soldiers entered her home around 9 p.m.; her husband escaped and sought help, but no assistance was provided. The woman later fled to neighbors for help.

Three civilians killed in Mahlaing military operation

In Mahlaing Township, Mandalay Region, nearly a month of junta military operations reportedly left three civilians dead and more than 40 homes destroyed.

Local sources said the junta began “clearance operations” in northern Mahlaing on June 9 and continued until July 4. Fighting broke out with resistance forces several times during the operation. On June 16, junta troops reportedly dropped explosives on Thabut Kone village at night, killing three members of one family.

Residents said junta columns burned homes, looted clothes, money, phones, and livestock, and detained two villagers as guides. Around 40 villages along the military route were displaced.

CDF-Hakha imposes nighttime curfew

CDF-Hakha issued a nighttime curfew for villages around Hakha, Chin State, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., citing concerns that junta soldiers and Non-CDM staff are moving in civilian clothes.

The group urged residents to report strangers in their communities. CDF-Hakha said recent junta airstrikes appeared to be based on precise location information.

On July 6, junta aircraft reportedly attacked a CDF-Hakha position with 500-pound bombs and additional explosives dropped from a Y-12 aircraft. Earlier, on June 26, airstrikes on CDF-Hakha Battalion 1 and Battalion 4 positions killed five fighters.

Ko Nan Lin to receive NED Democracy Award

The U.S.-based National Endowment for Democracy announced that the 2026 Democracy Award will honor pro-democracy community organizers from Myanmar’s Spring Revolution. Youth activist Ko Nan Lin will accept the award on their behalf.

NED said Ko Nan Lin and his colleagues organized peaceful, community-based protests and helped sustain public participation despite repression, surveillance, arrests, and threats from the military regime.

Ko Nan Lin said he was honored to receive the award on behalf of all those fighting for democracy in Myanmar. The award ceremony is expected to be held in September at Mount Vernon.

APHR condemns denial of access to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights, or APHR, said the junta’s continued refusal to allow ASEAN’s special envoy to meet Daw Aung San Suu Kyi shows the emptiness of ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus.

ASEAN Special Envoy and Philippine Foreign Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro had formally requested access to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on May 6, but the junta rejected the request on June 30, saying she remained under sentence.

APHR said ASEAN envoys have been blocked from meeting her since November 2021, undermining ASEAN’s peace efforts. The group called for the unconditional release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners, as well as access to family, lawyers, and independent medical teams.

Suu Scholarship opens for Grade 11 students in Sagaing

Peace Classroom has opened applications for the “Suu Scholarship” program for the 2026–27 academic year.

The program will support 20 Grade 11 students studying at community-based schools in Sagaing Region. It was launched to mark Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 81st birthday and aims to help young people continue education despite war and hardship.

Priority will be given to students from war-affected or fire-affected families, students with disabilities, those facing financial hardship, and children of CDM civil servants. Applications are due by July 15.

NLD condemns destruction of General Aung San statues

The National League for Democracy condemned the junta’s destruction of General Aung San statues across the country, calling it an attack on Myanmar’s national identity and historical symbols.

The NLD said General Aung San was the architect of independence, the founder of the Myanmar armed forces, and a leader who put the country’s interests above his own. It accused the junta and its associates of deliberately destroying public property, historical heritage, and the Union spirit.

Fighting reported along Chindwin, in Bilin and Mobye

Allied forces led by the Chindwin Spring Revolution Armed Force attacked a junta naval convoy on the Chindwin River near Kani and Mingin on July 7. The convoy reportedly included 24 transport vessels and four combat boats carrying troops, drones, weapons, ammunition, and supplies from Monywa.

In Bilin Township, Mon State, KNLA Battalion 2 and allied forces intercepted a junta column of more than 200 troops near Kyeik Khaw Khat and Kyet Tu Kone villages. Fighting lasted from morning until evening on July 5, and resistance sources said several junta vehicles were damaged.

In Mobye, near the Shan-Karenni border, resistance drone units reportedly attacked junta troops stationed in Lwelyin Mingalar village on July 2, killing one soldier.

Separately, four junta soldiers, including one corporal and three conscripts, reportedly defected to resistance forces in Mawlaik District.

KNU and KNPF destroy seized drugs

KNU Brigade 2 and the Karen National Police Force burned seized drugs worth more than 15 billion kyats in Toungoo District.

The drugs included 1,025 kilograms of crystal meth and more than 300,000 WY stimulant tablets. The destruction ceremony was held to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse.

KNU said those involved in transporting the drugs will be prosecuted under existing Kawthoolei administrative laws.

These reports were provided by Ko Thit and Lu Lay.

Hello.
