  1. Political prisoner dies in Pyay Prison due to lack of medical care
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 The Political Prisoners Network Myanmar said another detained political prisoner died in Pyay Prison because of inadequate medical care.
    The deceased, Ko Myint Naing, also known as Myint Soe, was a taxi driver before his arrest. He was detained by the military junta on 29 January 2024. On 3 May 2025, the Ahlone District Court sentenced him to 10 years in prison under counterterrorism laws and transferred him to Pyay Prison.
    Ko Myint Naing, who had high blood pressure, reportedly suffered a stroke at around 6 a.m. on 21 May. He was sent to Pyay 500-bed Hospital at around 9 a.m., but due to delayed and insufficient medical treatment in prison and the severity of his illness, he died at the hospital after 11 p.m. on 23 May.
    His body was cremated at Aye Nyein Yar Cemetery in Pyay on 24 May. His wife has also been sentenced to 10 years in prison and remains detained in Insein Prison.
    PPNM said it would continue reporting such violations of political prisoners\u2019 right to life and basic human rights to domestic and international human rights bodies, and would work to ensure accountability for those responsible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Junta troops kill civilians and resistance fighters in Falam and Kani
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 The bodies of two civilians and two Chin resistance fighters, allegedly killed by junta troops and dumped in a drainage ditch near Lon Pi village in Falam Township, Chin State, were found on 27 May.
    Locals believe they may have been killed during a junta military column\u2019s operation between Hakha and Falam. The two civilian victims were identified as Lon Pi villagers Duh Lian Sang and No Hnin. The two resistance fighters were reportedly members of the Chin National Army.
    In Kani Township, Sagaing Region, a junta column of about 600 troops reportedly detained and killed a local man in his 30s near Intaing Taw village along the Monywa\u2013Yargyi road. He was allegedly beaten, tortured, and killed by having his throat slit, then buried with his head exposed in a pond.
    Locals found the body on the morning of 28 May after the column left the area. His identity has not yet been confirmed.
    The same junta column reportedly vandalized homes, desecrated prayer rooms and drinking water pots, and burned items they did not need. Nearly 20,000 residents from 17 villages in Kani Township are currently displaced.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Pakokku-based local forces form Magway Federal Unit Defense Column 1
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 Pakokku District Local Battalion PDLB and the Earthquake People\u2019s Defence Force announced on 28 May that they have formed Magway Federal Unit Defense Column 1 under the command of the Magway Federal Unit Government\u2019s Ministry of Defense.
    They said that, alongside armed resistance, political work, administration, organizing, and public trust are essential parts of the Spring Revolution.
    The groups said they would follow the political and military guidance of the Magway Federal Unit Government and uphold policies relating to the public. They pledged to continue fighting under the ministry\u2019s command with responsibility, loyalty, and discipline, so that the sacrifices of martyrs, resistance fighters, and the public would not be in vain.
    The Southern Yesagyo alliance also announced on 27 May that it would serve under the Magway Federal Unit Government as Defense Column 3.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Civilian killed, nine injured in junta artillery and air attacks in Ramree, Wetlet, and Ler Doh
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 A civilian was killed and seven others injured when junta aircraft bombed a road repair site on the Pine Nae Taung\u2013Maw Oo road between Ramree and Kyaukphyu townships in Rakhine State.
    The attack took place twice on the morning of 28 May, using two jet fighters and two Y-12 aircraft, which reportedly dropped nearly 30 bombs. A backhoe driver from Gyi Phyu Taung village in Ma Ei Township was killed, while seven others were injured, four of them seriously.
    On 26 May, junta troops from Infantry Battalion 264 based in Peinzalok also fired two 155mm artillery shells into Kyun Gyi village in Ler Doh Township, KNU-controlled Nyaunglebin District, Bago Region. Three civilians \u2014 a 36-year-old woman and two men aged 52 and 61 \u2014 were injured, and three houses were damaged.
    On 28 May at around noon, junta troops based in Shwebo launched two suicide drones into northern Yay Htwet village in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region. The drones exploded on a civilian home, injuring two people inside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Junta soldier captured with weapon in Ngathayauk area
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 The Earthquake People\u2019s Defense Force said a junta soldier from a military column operating in the Ngathayauk area of Nyaung-U Township was captured alive on 26 May.
    The captured soldier was identified as Myo Htet Zaw, personal number Pa Sa-177585. An MA-1 rifle, 100 rounds of ammunition, four magazines, and one 60mm mortar shell were also seized.
    The operation was jointly carried out by the Earthquake People\u2019s Defense Force, Pakokku District Battalion 8, Pakokku District Local Battalion PDLB, 21 Bagan People Defense Force, Bagan Garuda Force, Daung Yin Thway Guerrilla Force, and Badassess Burma Force.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. New conscript from IB 92 defects to Nat Sit Thae Force
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 PDF Battalion 3801, Company 3, Nat Sit Thae Force said a newly conscripted soldier from Infantry Battalion 92, based in Padaung Township, Pyay District, Bago Region, defected on 25 May.
    The defector was identified as 31-year-old Private Pyae Phyo Aung. He joined the military on 10 April 2025 and received training at Min Kone\u2013Phaung Gyi in Hlegu Township, Yangon Region.
    He had served in Nyaung Kyo, Padaung Township, and in Rakhine State. He said he could not risk his life for a small group of dictators and would instead fight alongside revolutionary forces to help free the people from military slavery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. \u201cVictory Spear Dawna Strength\u201d campaign delivers support to Dawna Battalion
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 Dawna Battalion 9902 said supplies raised through the \u201cVictory Spear Dawna Strength\u201d campaign have arrived.
    The public\u2019s contributions provided 31 armor plates, 37 helmets, 25 bulletproof vests, one drone, 16 communication towers, and spare parts.
    The battalion said these military support items are now being distributed to frontline fighters. It thanked all donors and organizers, saying every contribution from the public serves as life-saving protection and strength for fighters on the front line.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. NUG and CRPH send Eid al-Adha messages
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 The National Unity Government sent a message marking Eid al-Adha, also known as Qurbani Eid, wishing peace, safety, and well-being to Muslims in Myanmar and around the world.
    The NUG said Myanmar\u2019s Spring Revolution has reached a decisive stage in 2026, while the military junta is facing defeat on multiple fronts. However, it said the junta continues committing war crimes and destroying civilians\u2019 lives and property across the country regardless of ethnicity or religion.
    The NUG said ethnic revolutionary organizations, PDFs, and the public are continuing the struggle to completely remove military dictatorship and build a new federal democratic union.
    It also honored the sacrifices of Muslim resistance fighters and civilians who have taken part in the revolution.
    The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw also sent Eid greetings, wishing safety and happiness to all Muslims and the people of Myanmar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Magway Federal Unit Government invites local defense forces to join defense columns
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 The Interim Magway Federal Unit Government has invited local defense forces to join Magway Federal Unit defense columns.
    In a 27 May statement on defense affairs, the government said the invitation aims to organize and respond to current military conditions inside the Magway Federal Unit.
    It said local defense groups that have expressed willingness to operate under its command are being organized into temporary defense columns to conduct military activities.
    The government urged local and ethnic-based defense groups in Magway that have not yet joined to cooperate. It said the process of forming the Magway Federal Unit Defense Force would be carried out in accordance with interim legal arrangements, in coordination with the National Unity Government, the Magway Federal Unit Parliament, and local defense groups.
    Magway Federal Unit Prime Minister Dr. Ye Tun Zaw wrote that if everyone can organize systematically, victory is certain, calling for unity, collective struggle, and shared victory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. NUG objects to Min Aung Hlaing\u2019s India visit
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 NUG Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung sent a letter to India\u2019s foreign minister on 27 May objecting to Min Aung Hlaing\u2019s planned visit to India.
    The letter said the visit by the junta leader is deeply concerning for the people of Myanmar. Since the 2021 coup, Myanmar has suffered prolonged conflict, instability, and severe humanitarian hardship. The letter said any engagement that could be seen as granting political legitimacy to the junta should be avoided.
    It also warned that any election held under junta control cannot override the legitimacy of the 2020 general election, and urged India not to support an election that would prolong military dictatorship.
    The letter appealed to India, as a country long associated with democratic governance, rule of law, and regional stability, to carefully consider the consequences of normalizing or legitimizing the military regime. It urged India not to encourage an unconstitutional precedent created by the violent seizure of power.
    The NUG said the long-standing friendship between India and Myanmar is rooted not only in state-to-state relations but also in deep people-to-people ties. It urged India to engage with Myanmar in a way that respects democracy, peace, human rights, and the aspirations of the Myanmar people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Myanmar nationals in New Delhi to protest junta leader\u2019s India visit
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 Myanmar nationals in New Delhi are planning peaceful protests against coup leader Min Aung Hlaing\u2019s planned visit to India.
    Organizers said they have formally requested permission from Indian authorities and will act in accordance with legal procedures.
    They said the protest aims to oppose, on behalf of the Myanmar people, the junta\u2019s killings, repression, and human rights violations.
    Min Aung Hlaing is reportedly planning to travel to India in June. Myanmar nationals in New Delhi said they cannot accept the visit and are preparing to strongly oppose it with full public participation.
    The protests are scheduled at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on 28 May and in front of the Myanmar Embassy on 30 May, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. Groups ask Thai rights commission to investigate energy companies funding Myanmar junta
    m.CDM, 28 May \u2014 Blood Money Campaign and Campaign for a New Myanmar have submitted a complaint to Thailand\u2019s National Human Rights Commission, asking it to investigate the human rights impacts of Thai oil and gas companies operating in Myanmar.
    The complaint, submitted on 25 May, calls for investigations into PTT, PTTEP, and Northern Gulf Petroleum after the 2021 coup.
    The groups said revenues from these companies support the junta\u2019s war crimes and mass atrocities. They said the Myanmar military has killed nearly 93,000 people and carried out 7,201 airstrikes since the coup attempt, causing deaths including pregnant women and infants.
    In Tanintharyi Region, where Thai gas pipelines pass through, the junta has allegedly carried out 253 airstrikes and 11 massacres, killing 139 civilians.
    The groups said the three Thai companies generate more than US$1 billion annually for the junta, making gas revenue its largest source of foreign income.
    They urged Thailand\u2019s human rights commission to launch a formal investigation and consider recommendations from the UN Special Rapporteur and OHCHR for targeted action.
    Keel Dietz, Senior Policy Advisor at Campaign for a New Myanmar, said the junta needs hard currency to buy weapons used in its campaign of terror against the Myanmar people, and that PTT, PTTEP, and NGP must do everything possible to ensure their operations do not finance the military\u2019s atrocities.
    Mulan from Blood Money Campaign said the commission should investigate and help stop payments that support the junta\u2019s crimes.
    The groups also urged strict monitoring to stop payments to the junta, including placing gas revenues in escrow accounts so the military cannot access them.
