1. SSCEF and the Mandalay Interim Governing Council Hold Online Talks; Veteran and Young NLD Members Meet<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Steering Committee for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF) and the Mandalay Region Hluttaw Interim Governing Council (MIGC) reportedly held discussions online.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The meeting, held on May 14, was attended by SCEF Secretariat Coordination Officer Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Associate Coordinator Salai Ram Kulh Cung, and other responsible officials.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Representatives from Mandalay Region included Hluttaw Speaker Daw Thida Nyein and Interim Governing Council Chair U Myint Aung Moe.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
During the discussion, both sides reportedly coordinated in detail regarding Mandalay Region\u2019s participation in one of SCEF\u2019s three pillars \u2014 the State and Federal Unit Pillar \u2014 and future cooperation plans.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
In addition, an online meeting between veteran members and younger-generation youth members of the National League for Democracy (NLD) was reportedly held on the morning of May 15.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Opening remarks and historical reflections were delivered by patron committee member Mahn Johnny, Central Executive Committee member U Tun Tun Hein, Dr. May Win Myint, and U Maung Maung Oo.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Participants also discussed revolutionary experiences, practical actions for younger generations, ways to encourage active participation of party youth in the revolution, improving organizational quality, and the unconditional release of party leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The meeting also agreed to organize activities for public leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s birthday on June 19, continue holding similar meetings regularly, and work toward implementing the recommendations emerging from the discussions.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

2. Around 200 Political Prisoners at Kalay Prison Stage Hunger Strike<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Approximately 200 political prisoners at Kalay Prison in Sagaing Region reportedly staged a hunger strike demanding equal rights, according to the Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
On May 2, the prisoners reportedly refused prison meals and peacefully protested throughout the day under the slogan: \u201cWe Want to Eat Real People\u2019s Rice.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The protesters reportedly made three main demands:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
* Equal rights for political prisoners<\/div>\n
* Full protection of political prisoners\u2019 rights<\/div>\n
* Rule of law<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
According to the statement, the junta has intentionally excluded political prisoners from amnesty programs while granting sentence reductions mainly to criminal offenders, leading to the protest.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The prisoners also strongly condemned corruption among prison authorities and restrictions imposed on female prisoners, including bans on receiving food parcels and cooking privileges, along with various forms of oppression against female political prisoners.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
PPNM further condemned discrimination against political prisoners and called on international prison-monitoring organizations to urgently observe the situation to prevent retaliatory repression against the protesters and help address their demands.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

3. DMD Calls for Monitoring Upcoming ASEAN Military Meetings<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The civil society group Defend Myanmar Democracy (DMD) issued a statement on May 15 urging close observation of ASEAN military-related meetings scheduled from May 17 to 23.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The meetings reportedly include:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
* The 23rd ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Meeting<\/div>\n
* The 16th ASEAN Army Operations Meeting<\/div>\n
* The 23rd ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
DMD stated that representatives of Myanmar\u2019s military junta have been allowed to attend these meetings continuously since 2021.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The organization argued that allowing a military accused of daily bombing and killing civilians to participate effectively legitimizes criminal behavior and helps strengthen its killing capacity.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The 23rd ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Meeting, scheduled for May 17\u201321, is described as ASEAN\u2019s highest-level and most important military meeting aimed at building trust and enhancing military cooperation among member states.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Topics expected to be discussed reportedly include counterterrorism, maritime security, and cyber threats.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The 16th ASEAN Army Operations Meeting, involving director-level military leaders from ASEAN countries, will reportedly discuss operational cooperation, joint military exercises, and capacity-building programs.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The 23rd ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting, attended by military intelligence chiefs and directors from ASEAN countries, is also scheduled for May 17\u201323.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

4. Intoxicated Policeman Arrested by Resistance Forces After Firing Weapon at Maungmagan Police Station<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Resistance forces reportedly arrested a policeman who was intoxicated and firing his weapon at Maungmagan police station in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Statements released by the Dawei National Liberation Army and the Dukkha Column said the policeman, identified as Naing Min, became intoxicated and fired shots into Maungmagan village around 9:30 PM on April 20.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Resistance forces reportedly arrested him at the Tanintharyi Hotel on Maungmagan Beach at around 1 AM on April 21.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Items seized reportedly included:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
* One G3 rifle<\/div>\n
* Three magazines<\/div>\n
* Fifty rounds of ammunition<\/div>\n
* One communication device<\/div>\n
* Other military equipment<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The groups stated that the arrested policeman would be treated according to international laws regarding prisoners of war.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They also urged soldiers, police, militia members, and newly conscripted troops under the junta to contact nearby resistance forces and seek refuge with the people.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Resistance groups additionally warned civilians to follow airstrike safety information because the military may conduct air attacks in Tanintharyi Region at any time.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

5. Tanintharyi Military Division Says Reports of Four PDF Fighters Killed in Airstrike on Taku Village School Are False<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

The Tanintharyi Military Division Information Team stated that reports claiming four PDF fighters were killed in an airstrike on Taku Village High School are false.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The statement was issued regarding a junta airstrike carried out around 10 AM on May 13 against the school in Tanintharyi Township.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
According to the statement, junta propaganda outlets falsely claimed the school was bombed because PDF fighters were stationed there, and that four PDF members were killed and two injured.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The Tanintharyi Military Division denied that any units under its command were stationed in schools or instructed to do so.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
It also stated that Taku Village Tract is under the control of the National Unity Government\u2019s defense and administrative structures, and accused junta forces of deliberately bombing schools and civilian homes in the area as acts of war crimes.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The statement added that military units, township administrative groups, and township education boards under the Tanintharyi command have never released sensitive military information that could endanger civilians.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
It further criticized non-local organizations and junta-linked sources for spreading premature and false military-related news that could threaten civilian security.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

6. Junta Troops Advancing Into Paungde Hit by Landmines; Village Burned Down<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

Resistance forces reportedly attacked a junta column of around 60 troops entering Paungde Township in Bago Region for clearance operations.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The attack occurred on the morning of May 11 and reportedly involved around seven mine explosions.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
According to reports:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
* Two junta soldiers were killed<\/div>\n
* Two others were seriously injured<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The operation was carried out by Battalion 3601, Company 2, under Strategy 21 of the Bago Regional Military Command.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Resistance fighters reportedly withdrew successfully without casualties.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Following the ambush, junta troops reportedly fired weapons indiscriminately and burned down nine homes in Thelmae Village.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They also allegedly looted six civilian motorcycles and two cattle before retreating with their dead and wounded.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

7. Military Column Ambushed in Hakha; Three Officers Including Strategy Commander Injured<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A military column led by a Hakha-based strategy commander was reportedly ambushed by Chin resistance forces while attempting to reinforce junta troops advancing from Falam toward Hakha.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Local Chin reports stated:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
* Three officers, including the strategy commander from Infantry Battalion 266, were injured<\/div>\n
* Four soldiers were killed<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The advancing junta column reportedly reached Chunkyun Village, around 10 miles from Hakha, on May 14.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Resistance forces attacked the reinforcement column near the six-road junction outside Hakha, leading to fighting.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Reports also stated that a helicopter evacuation via Kalay was being arranged on May 15 for the wounded commander and officers.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
After the ambush, troops stationed in Chunkyun Village reportedly burned down seven houses.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

8. Airstrikes in Hpa-an and Chaung-U Kill One Displaced Civilian; Nunery in Demoso Burned Again<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

Junta airstrikes in Hpa-an Township, Karen State, and Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region reportedly killed one displaced civilian woman.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
On May 12 around 11:30 PM, junta jet fighters reportedly dropped two bombs on Mae Baw Khee Village in Hpa-an Township.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
A 19-year-old woman displaced from Baw Kyoh Lay Village in Mutraw District was reportedly killed instantly by shrapnel.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Five civilians, including children aged four and six, were injured, and three houses were damaged.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Similarly, a school in Htantawgon Village, Chaung-U Township, was reportedly attacked by a suicide drone launched from the Northwestern Regional Military Command despite no fighting occurring there.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Although there were no civilian casualties, school buildings were reportedly damaged.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
In addition, junta troops reportedly burned down a more than 60-year-old nunnery in Dawngankha Village, Demoso Township, Karenni State.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The same nunnery had previously been burned by junta troops in September 2025 and was burned again on the morning of May 13, 2026.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
According to the Progressive Karenni People Force (PKPF), 67 religious buildings in Karenni State and Kayan areas had been destroyed by junta actions from the time of the coup until the end of April this year.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

9. Fierce Fighting in Mobye and Shwebo; Three Fleeing Conscripts Shot Dead in Yebyu<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Heavy fighting reportedly broke out after resistance alliance forces attacked Pyu Saw Htee militia bases in Palaing and Mingon villages, Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The fighting reportedly lasted from 5 AM until around noon on May 14.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
According to reports:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
* One junta officer and one Pyu Saw Htee member were killed<\/div>\n
* Seven junta-aligned fighters were injured<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The junta reportedly used jet fighters, Y-12 aircraft, motorized paragliders, and howitzers extensively during the battle.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
One resistance fighter was reportedly killed and six injured.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Similarly, fighting intensified near Mobye on the border between southern Shan State and Karenni State after junta troops and the PNO militia launched an offensive.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Resistance forces reportedly ambushed the advancing column on May 13, forcing junta troops to retreat after suffering heavy losses.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Two fighters from Alpha Military Region No. 1 \u2014 Comrade Lar Yoe and Comrade Nge Let \u2014 were reportedly killed in action.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
In Tanintharyi Region\u2019s Yebyu Township, junta troops reportedly pursued and shot at 10 newly conscripted soldiers who had fled from Light Infantry Battalion 409 due to abuse inside the unit.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Three of the fleeing conscripts were reportedly killed.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The remaining seven survivors are reportedly being sheltered and cared for by the Ta Pin Shwe Htee Kyauk People\u2019s Defense Force while investigations continue.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
