From now on, we will be presenting m.CDM domestic news.<br>Today\u2019s headlines include:<br>Fierce fighting between the military and KIA in Shwegu; military commission troops also attacked in Myingyan and Myaing, with 40 killed and one captured alive.<br>Seven civilians killed, six injured, and more than 90 homes destroyed in military attacks in Ler Doh, Natthalin, and Hpakant.<br>UN Secretary-General warns that without press freedom, there can be no human rights, sustainable development, or peace.<br>Myanmar people in the United States protest, demanding credible proof that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fierce fighting in Shwegu; military troops attacked in Myingyan and Myaing<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>Fierce clashes have reportedly been taking place since May 2 in Shwegu Township, Kachin State, after the military commission sent more than 1,000 reinforcements, including tanks, into the area.<br>The column reportedly advanced from Nga Oh village toward Shwegu and is said to be planning to join existing military forces there before continuing toward Bhamo.<br>Meanwhile, in Momeik, which the TNLA had handed back to the military commission, more than 2,000 troops have reportedly gathered and are preparing to launch an offensive to retake Mabein, which is held by the KIA.<br>A military source assessed that fighting between the military commission and KIA could intensify in the coming days.<br>Separately, revolutionary forces reportedly intercepted and attacked military commission troops entering Myingyan and Natogyi townships in Mandalay Region between April 12 and April 26.<br>During those clashes, 35 junta soldiers were reportedly killed, and a corporal named Aung Lin was captured alive.<br>Similarly, in Myaing Township, Magway Region, revolutionary forces reportedly attacked military troops on April 28 as they came out to collect food supplies dropped by aircraft at Thayetkan, a Pyu Saw Htee village.<br>Around five military personnel were reportedly killed or injured, while revolutionary fighters withdrew without casualties.<br>In addition, a soldier from Gangaw-based Infantry Battalion 50, named Kaung Khant, also known as Ar Zar Ni, reportedly defected with weapons and ammunition to the Chinland Defense Force\u2013Kalay, Kabaw, Gangaw (CDF-KKG). CDF-KKG said it awarded him 5 million kyats and safely transported him to a liberated area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>KNLA Battalion 9 attacks military checkpoint between Peinzaloke and Thutaykone, killing five including two officers<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>KNLA Battalion 9 attacked a military checkpoint between Peinzaloke and Thutaykone in Ler Doh Township, Kler Lwee Htoo District, within the Karen National Union\u2019s Kawthoolei administrative area. Five junta personnel, including two officers, were killed, according to a KNU Central statement.<br>The checkpoint was stationed near Bridge 147 on the railway section between Peinzaloke and Thutaykone. Special forces from Karen National Liberation Army Battalion 9 attacked the site at around 9:30 p.m. on May 2.<br>The KNU said two officers and three soldiers were killed, and three huts at the checkpoint were burned down.<br>KNLA forces also seized five firearms and some ammunition. No KNLA casualties were reported.<br>The KNU said it continues to resist the military junta politically and militarily and will keep working toward the emergence of a genuine federal democratic union desired by the people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seven civilians killed, six injured, and more than 90 homes damaged in military attacks in Ler Doh, Natthalin, and Hpakant<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>Seven civilians were reportedly killed due to military commission attacks in Ler Doh Township, Kler Lwee Htoo\/Nyaunglebin District, under KNU Brigade 3 control in Bago Region; Natthalin Township in Bago Region; and the Hpakant area of Kachin State.<br>On May 1 and 2, military forces fired heavy weapons into villages in Ler Doh Township, injuring three civilians and damaging seven homes.<br>On April 29, a junta jet fighter also bombed Kaw Mu Der village, damaging three more homes.<br>In eastern Natthalin Township, a military column of around 400 troops operating from April 27 to 29 reportedly shot dead one elderly man and two elderly women.<br>The column also burned 42 homes in Seisone Kone, Ywathaya, and Kwinsam villages. Another 45 homes were damaged by heavy weapons and drone attacks.<br>Similarly, in Hpakant, Kachin State, junta forces reportedly fired an explosive projectile at a civilian vehicle between the Tadar Nyi Naung checkpoint and Pya Ohn village around midday on May 2, injuring two men and one woman.<br>The KIA has warned that travel along the Hpakant\u2013Kamaing road is closed due to the military situation. On April 24, another civilian vehicle was reportedly fired upon, killing one woman.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UN Secretary-General warns there can be no human rights, sustainable development, or peace without press freedom<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres warned that without press freedom, there can be no human rights, sustainable development, or peace.<br>He made the remarks in his message for World Press Freedom Day, which falls on May 3.<br>\u201cAll freedoms depend on press freedom,\u201d Guterres said, adding that without it, human rights, sustainable development, and peace cannot exist.<br>He also warned that media workers around the world face censorship, harassment, obstruction, and even threats to their lives.<br>People often say that truth is the first casualty of war, he said, but journalists who risk everything to report the truth are often the first victims\u2014not only in wars, but wherever those in power fear scrutiny.<br>Guterres said killings of journalists in conflict zones have risen sharply, and many cases were not accidents but deliberate targeted attacks.<br>He added that 85 percent of crimes committed against journalists are neither investigated nor punished, describing this impunity as completely unacceptable.<br>On World Press Freedom Day, he urged everyone to defend the rights of journalists and build a safer world for truth and those who report it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Britain urges immediate release of all detained journalists<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>The British government has urged the immediate release of all detained journalists, saying media outlets must have the right to report freely.<br>The call was made on World Press Freedom Day, May 3.<br>According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Myanmar ranks 166th out of 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index.<br>Since the military coup in Myanmar, more than 220 journalists have been arrested, and 47 remain detained.<br>The British government said media freedom is under threat worldwide. According to RSF\u2019s World Press Freedom Index, press freedom in more than half of the world\u2019s countries has, for the first time, fallen into the \u201cdifficult\u201d or \u201cvery serious\u201d categories.<br>Despite facing harassment, arrest, and threats to their lives every day, Myanmar journalists continue to show a strong commitment to providing the public with accurate information, the British government said.<br>A female journalist identified as Ma Moe Moe, a pseudonym, said: \u201cEvery story requires risking life and safety.\u201d<br>The British government said it strongly supports media freedom and continues to lead efforts to promote and protect democracy and human rights worldwide.<br>As co-chair of the Media Freedom Coalition, the UK said it is working with partner organizations around the world, including the MFC embassy network in Myanmar, to support free and strong media and protect those who bravely stand as journalists.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NUG Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than, ministers, PDF commanders, and Min Ko Naing seen walking in an urban area<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>A video has emerged showing National Unity Government Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than, 88 Generation student leader Min Ko Naing, and several revolutionary leaders walking casually in an urban ward in a controlled area of Bago Region.<br>In the video, Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than, Min Ko Naing, Home Affairs Minister U Lwin Ko Latt, Deputy Defense Minister Naing Kaung Ywet, Operation Area No. 2 commander Ye Baw Tin Oo, and several PDF commanders are seen walking together in civilian clothing.<br>In the video, Ye Baw Tin Oo says the location is a controlled area in Bago Region. He is also seen joking with Min Ko Naing, who is walking in front wearing sunglasses, saying, \u201cMy brother is no longer in the jungle; he has become a city man again.\u201d<br>Although the military regime often spreads propaganda claiming revolutionary leaders are living abroad, the source who sent the video said the leaders are on the ground and will soon reach Naypyidaw.<br>Previously, records have also been released showing the NUG acting president, prime minister, and ministers visiting battlefields and frontline camps to meet revolutionary forces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NLD says transfer of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to house arrest is merely a junta deception<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>The National League for Democracy Central Working Committee issued a statement on May 3 saying the reported transfer of NLD Chair Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from a secret location to house arrest is not a positive political development, but merely a deception by the military council.<br>The NLD said announcements by junta-controlled media that President U Win Myint was allowed to meet his family again and that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi had been moved to house arrest are not sufficient evidence of transition or healing.<br>The NLD also warned the international community, including ASEAN, not to rush into engagement, saying junta leader Min Aung Hlaing is carrying out showpiece moves to seek political legitimacy through a sham election.<br>With thousands still detained for their political beliefs, Myanmar remains far from genuine democratic transition, the NLD said. It urged the public to continue demanding and struggling until all political prisoners are released.<br>The NLD also expressed thanks to the United Nations, Western countries, ASEAN member states, and China for their continued calls for the release of political prisoners and for monitoring Daw Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s situation.<br>The NLD Central Working Committee also advised foreign investors and friendly countries to note that investments can be fully protected under the law only under a government elected by the people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chin Brotherhood warns junta gestures toward U Win Myint and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi are a divisive ploy against the revolution<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>Salai Yaw Man, general secretary of CPU\/CPA, warned that the military commission\u2019s actions\u2014reportedly releasing President U Win Myint and moving State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to house arrest\u2014are a political maneuver intended to divide revolutionary forces.<br>He made the remarks at the \u201cOperation CB Chin Brotherhood\u201d special fundraising event held on May 2.<br>He said the military regime is testing whether such moves will raise questions among revolutionary forces about abandoning armed struggle and shifting to a political path.<br>He also said the regime wants to portray those continuing the revolution as people who do not want peace and are causing destruction of civilians\u2019 homes.<br>Salai Yaw Man noted that if any statement by President U Win Myint were to strengthen the revolution, he could be rearrested at any time.<br>Similarly, U Nay Phone Latt, spokesperson for the NUG Prime Minister\u2019s Office, remarked that such symbolic relaxations are merely political tricks long used by successive military regimes.<br>Revolutionary forces reaffirmed that they will continue fighting without wavering until all political prisoners are released unconditionally and the revolution\u2019s goals are achieved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Myanmar people in the U.S. protest, demanding credible proof that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is alive<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>Myanmar people abroad held a \u201cProof of Life\u201d campaign at Foley Square in New York City on the morning of May 3, calling for the release of all political prisoners, including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and demanding credible proof that she is alive.<br>Participants called on the international community to pressure the junta to provide reliable evidence that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is alive. The movement was organized around three main demands.<br>Attendees also expressed full support for the Steering Committee for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF).<br>They also protested to show the world that they completely reject the military leader and the coup regime.<br>People from New York State and nearby states joined the demonstration in support of the revolution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>U Than Naing from the Florida branch becomes chair of the Citizen of Burma Award Association<br>m.CDM, May 3<br>The Citizen of Burma Award Association announced on May 3 that U Than Naing from the Florida branch has been elected as the association\u2019s new chair.<br>The announcement was made under Statement No. 1\/2026 of the Citizen of Burma Association of International Myanmar Ethnic Families.<br>According to the association, under Chapter 7 of its constitution and rules, the Central Executive Committee unanimously approved U Than Naing of the Florida branch as the new chair during a meeting held on May 2.<br>The 17th Citizen of Burma Award ceremony is scheduled to be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on May 23.
