NUG strongly condemns junta\u2019s deliberate airstrike on Mrauk-U District Hospital; urges international community and UN to immediately act against war crimes and crimes against humanity<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>m.CDM \u2013 December 11<\/strong><br>The National Unity Government (NUG) has issued a strong condemnation of the military junta\u2019s deliberate bombing of the Mrauk-U District People\u2019s Hospital in Rakhine State using fighter jets at around 9 p.m. on December 10\u2014International Human Rights Day.<br>The attack killed <strong>35 innocent civilians<\/strong> and injured <strong>76<\/strong>.<br>According to NUG\u2019s statement, the dead included children, pregnant women, patients receiving treatment, and medical staff.<br>NUG emphasized that this attack constitutes a <strong>clear and serious violation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL)<\/strong> and the <strong>Geneva Conventions<\/strong>, amounting to a <strong>war crime<\/strong> and a <strong>massacre<\/strong>.<br>NUG stated:<br>\u201cThis attack is a continuation of the military junta\u2019s over 1,600 assaults on healthcare facilities across Myanmar.\u201d<br>NUG called on the international community to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Urgently apply strong and effective pressure and take action<\/strong> to immediately halt all deliberate attacks by the junta on civilians, civilian infrastructure, and humanitarian targets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urgently intervene\u2014through bodies such as the <strong>UN Security Council<\/strong> and the <strong>International Criminal Court (ICC)<\/strong>\u2014to ensure accountability for the junta\u2019s war crimes and crimes against humanity, and to prosecute those responsible under international law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that international humanitarian agencies can urgently provide <strong>safe and timely medical treatment<\/strong> to the injured.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NUG added that it is coordinating assistance for victims and their families, and pledged to work tirelessly with the people of Rakhine to achieve justice for this atrocity.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. APHR strongly condemns junta\u2019s bombing of Mrauk-U Hospital that killed 33 civilians on Human Rights Day<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>m.CDM \u2013 December 11<\/strong><br>At 9:13 p.m. on December 10\u2014International Human Rights Day\u2014the junta dropped two <strong>500-lb bombs<\/strong> on the Mrauk-U General Hospital in Rakhine State, killing <strong>at least 33 civilians<\/strong> and injuring nearly <strong>100<\/strong>, according to ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR).<br>The dead included patients, children, the elderly, medical staff, and many women. APHR stated that deliberately attacking a hospital at night\u2014when patients and staff are most vulnerable\u2014is a <strong>blatant violation of international humanitarian law<\/strong> and a <strong>war crime<\/strong>.<br>APHR Chair, Indonesian MP <strong>Mercy Chriesty Barends<\/strong>, said:<br>\u201cBombing a hospital on Human Rights Day itself clearly demonstrates the junta\u2019s total disregard for humanity.\u201d<br>APHR members added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Malaysian MP <strong>Wong Chen<\/strong>: \u201cHospitals must never be targeted. Such crimes against civilians must carry international accountability.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Former Thai minister <strong>Kasit Piromya<\/strong>: \u201cOver 1,000 Rakhine civilians have been killed within two years. This reflects a systematic ethnic extermination across Myanmar. ASEAN must act now to prevent further mass killings.\u201d<br>APHR also noted that due to ongoing internet and communication shutdowns in Rakhine, information remains severely limited.<br>APHR urged ASEAN and the international community to:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognize the Mrauk-U hospital bombing as part of a <strong>genocidal pattern<\/strong> and take emergency action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completely reject the junta\u2019s sham elections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage major powers\u2014including China and India\u2014to halt attacks on civilians and allow unrestricted humanitarian access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">* Strengthen targeted sanctions, including on arms and jet fuel.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Junta bombs resistance-controlled Letpanhla Village in Singu Township; 1 civilian killed, 5 injured; junta ground troops advance to within 5 miles<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>m.CDM \u2013 December 11<\/strong><br>Residents report that the military junta\u2019s air force bombed <strong>Letpanhla Village<\/strong> in Singu Township, Mandalay Region, killing <strong>one civilian<\/strong> and injuring <strong>five<\/strong>.<br>On December 11, two jet fighters from Tada-U Air Base conducted <strong>five airstrikes<\/strong> on the village\u2019s Pyisoe Aung and Pinlalkyi wards.<br>Homes were destroyed by fire, and one resident from Pinlalkyi Ward was killed.<br>Meanwhile, junta ground forces have advanced to within <strong>five miles<\/strong> of Letpanhla Village, an area under the control of Mandalay PDF and allied revolutionary forces, and <strong>intense clashes<\/strong> are ongoing.<br>Letpanhla\u2014home to over a thousand households\u2014was captured by Mandalay PDF and allies during the <strong>second wave of Operation 1027 (Shan\u2013Mandalay Offensive).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The junta recently regained control of territory in Mattaya and also Seikpyu Town, and is now attempting to push deeper into Singu Township.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Four regional CDM civil-servant organizations urge NUG to ensure justice for CDM staff as soon as possible<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>m.CDM \u2013 December 11<\/strong><br>Four regional organizations representing Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) civil servants have urged the NUG to urgently deliver <strong>justice<\/strong> for CDM government staff involved in the non-violent resistance movement.<br>They stressed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CDM staff are <strong>unarmed<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are core supporters of the revolution,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They come from essential professional sectors critical to the country\u2019s development,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They deserve mutual respect and recognition.<br>The groups emphasized that because CDM staff <strong>sacrificed their positions, salaries, and job security<\/strong> to stand with the People&#8217;s Government, the revolutionary administration has a <strong>responsibility to protect them<\/strong>.<br>They cited cases where CDM staff were murdered due to mismanagement and abuses during the revolution:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>U Win Thei<\/strong>, education officer from Kani Township, killed along with his family.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>U Arindama<\/strong>, secretary of the forestry management committee in Kawlin Township, assassinated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Daw Khin Sann Yu Shwe<\/strong>, senior education staff and CDM teacher, shot dead in her home in Ye Kyi Village, Depayin Township.<br>They stated that CDM civil servants continue to live in fear due to the lack of legal protection and accountability to date.<br>The groups warned that CDM staff\u2014who have already risked their lives opposing the brutal dictatorship\u2014will never bow to any future authoritarian force and will resist by any means necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">They also appealed to other CDM organizations to stand in solidarity with them.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. WFP warns that over 12 million people in Myanmar could face severe hunger in 2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>m.CDM \u2013 December 11<\/strong><br>The UN World Food Programme (WFP) warns that in <strong>2026<\/strong>, more than <strong>12 million<\/strong> people in Myanmar could face <strong>acute food insecurity<\/strong>, and <strong>at least 1 million<\/strong> may fall into <strong>emergency-level hunger<\/strong> requiring life-saving assistance.<br>WFP stated that as conflict intensifies, internal displacement could rise to <strong>4 million<\/strong>, and Myanmar\u2019s humanitarian crisis may reach unbearable levels\u2014made worse by <strong>severe funding shortages<\/strong>.<br>Currently, more than <strong>400,000 children and mothers<\/strong> are suffering from acute malnutrition, and many families survive only on plain rice or thin porridge.<br>WFP Myanmar Country Director <strong>Michael Dunford<\/strong> said:<br>\u201cConflict and poverty are destroying people\u2019s basic ability to survive, yet international attention is extremely limited. This is one of the world\u2019s worst hunger crises\u2014and also one of the least funded.\u201d<br>WFP aims to assist <strong>1.3 million<\/strong> of the more than 12 million in need in 2026 but urgently requires <strong>US$125 million<\/strong> to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The latest OCHA report estimates that internal displacement could rise from <strong>3.6 million to 4 million<\/strong> by next year.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Special Region Military Command meets with Yangon PDF district and township commanders<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>m.CDM \u2013 December 11<\/strong><br>The Yangon PDF announced that commanders from its district\/township units met with the <strong>Commander of Special Military Region No. 1<\/strong> under the People\u2019s Defense Force (PDF).<br>Yangon PDF\u2019s leadership team, led by Commander Naung Yo, met with Commander Aung San Shar of the Special Region Military Command to discuss:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Joint military operations in the Yangon operational zone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Basic and advanced training matters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coordination mechanisms<br>Yangon PDF said its \u201c<strong>Uniforms &amp; Body Armor for 150,000<\/strong>\u201d fundraising campaign has passed <strong>two months<\/strong>, and although approaching its three-month deadline, it has reached only <strong>63%<\/strong> of its financial target.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To meet the remaining goal\u2014approximately <strong>560 million MMK<\/strong>\u2014Yangon PDF has launched a <strong>10-day, 300-million-kyat challenge<\/strong> (Dec 10\u201320) urging public participation to equip more fighters with uniforms and armor.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Today\u2019s news was contributed by Ko Thit Lulay and Khale Shell.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1.
