According to reports, former political prisoner U Pyinnya Zawta (U Zinn Nat Zaw)<\/strong>, the abbot of Metta Parami Monastery in Buffalo, New York, United States<\/strong>, has been released<\/strong> in the afternoon of October 30<\/strong>, after being unlawfully detained and imprisoned for nearly one year<\/strong> by the military junta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poet Aung Way<\/strong> wrote that Sayadaw U Pyinnya Zawta<\/strong> is expected to arrive back at the Metta Parami Monastery in Buffalo at 8:30 p.m. (New York time) on October 31<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sayadaw U Pyinnya Zawta had traveled to Yangon<\/strong> on a religious mission<\/strong> aimed at raising support to construct new monastic schools for monks studying in Myanmar<\/strong>. However, he was arrested by junta police<\/strong> in Saw Bwar Gyi Kone, Mingaladon Township<\/strong>, on November 13, 2024<\/strong>, and was imprisoned for nearly one year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is known as one of the leading monks of the 2007 Saffron Revolution<\/strong>, who also organized the Young Monks\u2019 Association<\/strong>. After the crackdown, he was forced into exile<\/strong> and later obtained U.S. citizenship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His release reportedly resulted from efforts by the U.S. Embassy<\/strong>, his defense lawyer<\/strong>, and the supportive local community network<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to KPV News<\/strong>, the Karenni Nationalities People\u2019s Liberation Front (KNPLF)<\/strong> has been regularly collecting and disposing of garbage<\/strong> in the western part of Demoso Township, Kayah (Karenni) State<\/strong>, as part of its environmental sanitation initiative<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The waste collection is primarily carried out in densely populated areas and marketplaces<\/strong>, with weekly cleanups<\/strong>, while in less crowded areas<\/strong>, the collection is conducted once every ten days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative is aimed at reducing environmental pollution<\/strong> and preventing the spread of diseases caused by domestic animals feeding on waste<\/strong>, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The waste collection effort began in August<\/strong> and has been conducted independently by the organization<\/strong>, despite challenges such as insufficient funding, fuel shortages, and the lack of a proper landfill<\/strong>, according to officials from the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Human Rights<\/strong> has announced that relief supplies and financial assistance<\/strong> have been distributed to villagers whose homes were destroyed by arson committed by junta forces<\/strong> in Taungtha Township, Myingyan District, Mandalay Region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The distribution of rice, basic food items, and cash assistance<\/strong> to the affected households took place in a village within Taungtha Township<\/strong> during the month of October<\/strong>, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These relief efforts were jointly organized by officials responsible for public administration and human rights affairs<\/strong> in Taungtha Township. It was further noted that as junta airstrikes and ground-based arson attacks<\/strong> have intensified, the humanitarian needs of civilians have significantly increased<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
