NLD Rejects the Junta\u2019s Sham Election and Urges the International Community Not to Recognize It<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>October 28<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>National League for Democracy (NLD)<\/strong>&nbsp;issued a statement on&nbsp;<strong>October 28<\/strong>, declaring that it&nbsp;<strong>completely rejects and will not recognize<\/strong>&nbsp;the&nbsp;<strong>sham election<\/strong>&nbsp;planned by the military junta. The party also&nbsp;<strong>urged the international community<\/strong>&nbsp;not to recognize the election,&nbsp;<strong>not to provide any technical or financial assistance<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>not to send observers<\/strong>&nbsp;to monitor it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its&nbsp;<strong>Central Executive Committee statement<\/strong>, the NLD reaffirmed that the&nbsp;<strong>November 8, 2020 general election<\/strong>&nbsp;was&nbsp;<strong>free, fair, and internationally recognized<\/strong>&nbsp;by world leaders, diplomats, and the&nbsp;<strong>United Nations<\/strong>. The statement condemned the&nbsp;<strong>military coup of February 1, 2021<\/strong>, which was carried out based on&nbsp;<strong>unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud<\/strong>, as&nbsp;<strong>illegal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement further highlighted that since the coup, the junta\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>systematic human rights violations<\/strong>&nbsp;have caused&nbsp;<strong>over 3.6 million internally displaced persons<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>more than 19,000 political prisoners<\/strong>. Prime Minister Anwar also noted that ASEAN is still&nbsp;<strong>considering the junta\u2019s invitation<\/strong>&nbsp;for election observers to be sent to Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the&nbsp;<strong>ASEAN Foreign Ministers\u2019 Meeting<\/strong>&nbsp;held in&nbsp;<strong>Kuala Lumpur on October 26<\/strong>, a&nbsp;<strong>28-point joint statement<\/strong>&nbsp;was released. It reaffirmed that since the junta has&nbsp;<strong>made no meaningful progress<\/strong>&nbsp;in implementing the&nbsp;<strong>ASEAN Five-Point Consensus<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>military leaders will continue to be barred<\/strong>&nbsp;from attending&nbsp;<strong>ASEAN summits and related meetings<\/strong>. Non-CDM Teacher Arrested for Beating Her Elderly Aunt and Niece with a Hammer and Stealing Gold and Cash in Chanmyathazi Township<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>October 28<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The junta\u2019s so-called \u201celection commission\u201d announced that a&nbsp;<strong>Non-CDM teacher<\/strong>&nbsp;was&nbsp;<strong>arrested<\/strong>&nbsp;for attacking her&nbsp;<strong>84-year-old aunt<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>niece<\/strong>&nbsp;with a hammer in&nbsp;<strong>Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay Region<\/strong>, before stealing&nbsp;<strong>gold and cash<\/strong>&nbsp;from their home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The alleged perpetrator, identified as&nbsp;<strong>Daw Soe Soe Tun<\/strong>, is reportedly the&nbsp;<strong>niece of the deceased<\/strong>&nbsp;and a&nbsp;<strong>middle school teacher<\/strong>&nbsp;at&nbsp;<strong>Basic Education Middle School No. 4, Ward (3), Pyin Oo Lwin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to reports, on the&nbsp;<strong>morning of October 25<\/strong>, she&nbsp;<strong>struck her 36-year-old niece<\/strong>&nbsp;three times with a&nbsp;<strong>hammer<\/strong>&nbsp;while the victim was sleeping.
