The Myanmar Parliamentary Delegation has stated that the terrorist military is blocking humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While attending the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and related meetings currently being held in Geneva, Switzerland, the Myanmar Parliamentary Delegation made this statement during a session of the Committee on Promoting Respect for International Humanitarian Law, which was held on October 21 under the theme \u201cSafeguarding Humanitarian Action in Times of Armed Conflict.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, the delegation presented and explained the worsening humanitarian situation in Myanmar caused by the terrorist military\u2019s airstrikes and acts of violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Win Myat Aye, head of the Myanmar Parliamentary Delegation, described in detail the displacement of civilians due to armed conflict, the violence being inflicted, the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, and the ongoing attacks \u2014 including airstrikes \u2014 being carried out by the terrorist military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also explained that hospitals, schools, and religious buildings have been destroyed by the terrorist military\u2019s violent actions, and that humanitarian aid operations have been obstructed. The delegation pointed out that these actions constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law committed by the terrorist military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the delegation met separately with parliamentarians from Brazil, Belgium, Poland, and the Philippines, according to the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been learned that today, October 22, the Deputy Head of the Myanmar Parliamentary Delegation, Daw Zing Mar Aung, will deliver a speech during the General Debate<\/em> session of the Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 2. The Military Junta Systematically Practices the Disappearance of Opponents, Says Myanmar\u2019s Ambassador to the UN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myanmar\u2019s Ambassador to the United Nations, U Kyaw Moe Tun, has stated that the military junta is systematically employing enforced disappearances as a tool to eliminate those who oppose it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He made the statement during the interactive dialogue on \u201cEnforced Disappearances\u201d<\/em> at the UN General Assembly\u2019s Third Committee \u2014 which addresses social, humanitarian, and cultural issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ambassador explained that since the coup, the junta has systematically committed the crime of enforced disappearance \u2014 a crime against humanity \u2014 for the past four years, with the intention of silencing dissenting voices, punishing civil society, and crushing the democratic movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that this horrifying pattern of enforced disappearance is not an isolated or rare crime but a deliberate tactic, systematically used by the military junta as a weapon of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to information gathered by independent investigative mechanisms, the junta continues to employ enforced disappearances \u2014 alongside arbitrary arrests, torture, and incommunicado detention \u2014 to oppress critics, activists, political leaders, and journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In many cases, detainees\u2019 families and lawyers have been cut off from contact and denied information about the victims\u2019 whereabouts or condition, the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) has reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ambassador highlighted that severing communication channels and visitation rights is an intentional strategy by the junta to conceal victims\u2019 fates, prevent accountability, and expose them to greater risk under their abusers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further warned that over time, the consequences of these grave crimes extend far beyond the victims themselves \u2014 affecting their families, communities, and even causing legal, economic, and psychological damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun emphasized that the perpetrators of these brutal acts of enforced disappearance are the military junta itself, which continues to exploit total impunity while systematically attacking civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged all member states attending the meeting to immediately oppose and reject the junta\u2019s sham election plans, stating that any form of support for such a fraudulent election would only serve to enable the junta to continue committing the crime of enforced disappearance with renewed legitimacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myanmar\u2019s Ambassador to the United Nations, U Kyaw Moe Tun, has warned that the Myanmar military \u2014 which has already used paramotors, normally intended for recreation, as weapons to attack and kill civilians \u2014 may also seek to weaponize nuclear energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He issued this warning during the thematic debate on nuclear disarmament policy, held under the First Committee on Disarmament and International Security<\/em> of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ambassador cautioned delegates that the situation is deeply concerning: while the terrorist junta continues to commit war crimes and indiscriminate airstrikes against civilians, it has also begun cooperating with a nuclear-armed country under the pretext of developing a so-called \u201cNuclear Energy Program.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that the very concept of the \u201cpeaceful use of nuclear energy\u201d stands in stark contradiction to the nature of the terrorist junta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further pointed out that the junta, which has been violating ASEAN\u2019s Five-Point Consensus, UN Security Council Resolution 2669, and numerous other UN decisions, is certain to violate IAEA safety standards as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ambassador warned that the junta and its affiliates, already involved in illicit arms procurement, will likely find it equally easy to engage in illegal nuclear-related activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also cautioned that any international support or engagement \u2014 including assistance or recognition \u2014 toward the junta\u2019s fraudulent election plans would, in effect, facilitate the junta\u2019s dangerous nuclear ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He reaffirmed Myanmar\u2019s firm stance that the only absolute guarantee against the catastrophic humanitarian and environmental consequences of nuclear weapons \u2014 whether used deliberately, accidentally, or otherwise \u2014 is their total elimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myanmar, he noted, has submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations under the title \u201cNuclear Disarmament\u201d<\/em> and appealed for co-sponsorship and support from all member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a member of the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ)<\/em>, Myanmar is committed to strengthening global standards against nuclear weapons and welcomed Timor-Leste\u2019s decision to accede to the treaty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further recalled that, under the elected civilian government, Myanmar had signed and ratified key international treaties \u2014 including the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)<\/em>, the Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS)<\/em>, the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM)<\/em>, and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he noted that all progress under these commitments was destroyed following the illegal and violent military coup in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
