Myanmar\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, stated that Myanmar is facing a grave human-made catastrophe<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly\u2019s Legal Committee under the agenda \u201cProtection of Civilians in the Face of Disasters,\u201d the Ambassador explained that the suffering of Myanmar\u2019s people stems from the unlawful actions of the military junta<\/em>, which has deliberately targeted and destroyed the lives, homes, and livelihoods of civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that it is the primary duty of any government to protect its people and provide humanitarian assistance without discrimination, and that international aid should be allowed to reach affected populations swiftly and unhindered. Instead, he noted, the military has wilfully obstructed humanitarian assistance<\/strong>, exploited crises for profit, and violated this responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun warned that simultaneous natural disasters and armed conflicts have led to severe human rights violations<\/em> and immeasurable suffering<\/em>, leaving the country in an irreparable humanitarian situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that Myanmar\u2019s current situation is a clear and striking example of such human-made disaster, caused by the military junta\u2019s illegal actions and deliberate disregard for civilian welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a time when Myanmar is struggling to recover from the widespread devastation caused by the recent 7.7-magnitude earthquake<\/strong>, the junta has continued its aerial bombardments<\/em> on villages in Sagaing and Mandalay Regions<\/strong>, the areas hardest hit by the quake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that Myanmar\u2019s people are now enduring not only natural disasters but also the man-made catastrophe created by the junta\u2019s violent oppression, which has plunged them into deeper misery and poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun concluded by urging the international community to stand firmly with the people of Myanmar<\/strong>\u2014who are striving to build a Federal Democratic Union<\/em>\u2014and to prevent the junta\u2019s sham election<\/strong>, stressing that accountability, responsibility, justice, and the restoration of democracy<\/em> are the only pathways toward lasting peace and human dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myanmar\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, has urged the international community to stop selling weapons, jet fuel, and dual-use materials<\/strong>\u2014items that can be used for both military and civilian purposes\u2014to the military junta, to help save lives<\/em> and end the people\u2019s suffering<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He made this appeal during the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly\u2019s Disarmament and International Security Committee (First Committee), in a speech addressing international peace and security issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that although Myanmar does not possess weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), the country is witnessing daily civilian deaths and destruction<\/em> caused by the use of conventional weapons<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ambassador noted that such conventional arms, when placed in the hands of dictators and abusers of power<\/em>, have caused countless civilian deaths across history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further highlighted that the junta continues to receive weapons, ammunition, aircraft, and dual-use technologies from certain UN member states<\/strong>, thereby enabling its ongoing atrocities and crimes against humanity<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U Kyaw Moe Tun warned that the junta, having lost ground battles, has intensified aerial attacks<\/strong>, and its misuse of dual-use technologies raises serious concerns about its motives\u2014especially in light of its disingenuous rhetoric about \u201cpeaceful use of nuclear energy\u201d and \u201cpeaceful use of outer space.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He therefore urged all UN member states and the international community<\/strong> to stop the sale, transfer, and provision of weapons, jet fuel, dual-use equipment, and associated technologies<\/strong> to the Myanmar military junta, emphasizing that doing so is crucial to saving lives and ending the people\u2019s immense suffering<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 3. MDSI: Junta Now Operating 27 Military Training Schools Using Unlawfully Detained Youths as Recruits<\/strong>
October 17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Myanmar Defense and Security Institute (MDSI) reported today that the junta now operates 27 military training schools<\/strong> where unlawfully detained and forcibly recruited youths<\/em> are being trained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to MDSI\u2019s statement, the junta has expanded the number of training institutions to absorb the growing number of detainees it has forcibly recruited. These include auxiliary units such as the Field Artillery Training School<\/strong>, the Defense Martial Arts and Sports Science Academy<\/strong>, and the No. 57 Naval Training Unit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, due to ongoing intense battles, the training at certain sites\u2014such as Saktha-2<\/strong> and Tatkat-13<\/strong> in Thabeikkyin Township<\/em>, Saktha-8<\/strong> in Shwebo<\/em>, and Tatkat-13<\/strong> in Kale Township<\/em>\u2014has reportedly been temporarily suspended for security reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement added that fifteen major training schools located in Shan State, Yangon Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Mon State, Naypyidaw, Mandalay Region, and Bago Region<\/strong>\u2014areas still under firm military control\u2014serve as the junta\u2019s primary centers for conducting weekly conscript training programs<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the conscription training, the junta is also conducting basic military training for new recruits<\/strong> at these bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
