Myanmar\u2019s Current Situation Clearly Demonstrates the Consequences of the International Community\u2019s Failure to Act Decisively Against Crimes Against Humanity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>October 15<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Myanmar\u2019s current situation starkly reveals the horrific consequences of the international community\u2019s failure to take decisive action and respond effectively to crimes against humanity, said Myanmar\u2019s Ambassador to the United Nations, U Kyaw Moe Tun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking during the general discussion of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly\u2019s Legal Committee under the agenda item \u201cCrimes Against Humanity,\u201d Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun highlighted how the world\u2019s inaction has emboldened perpetrators and worsened suffering across Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the more than four years of the unlawful military coup, the terrorist junta has carried out over&nbsp;<strong>370 airstrikes<\/strong>, resulting in the deaths of&nbsp;<strong>over 4,000 innocent civilians<\/strong>, and the destruction of&nbsp;<strong>over 100,000 private buildings<\/strong>, including&nbsp;<strong>more than 1,000 schools, hospitals, and religious sites<\/strong>, he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also noted that the junta has committed&nbsp;<strong>452 mass killings<\/strong>, leading to the deaths of countless children, and forcibly conscripted&nbsp;<strong>over 30,000 people<\/strong>, including minors, into military service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U Kyaw Moe Tun further condemned the junta\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>October 6<\/strong>&nbsp;airstrike\u2014on the sacred&nbsp;<strong>Thadingyut Full Moon Day<\/strong>, a significant Buddhist holiday\u2014where warplanes attacked a crowded gathering in&nbsp;<strong>Chaung Oo Township, Sagaing Region<\/strong>, killing around&nbsp;<strong>20 civilians, including children<\/strong>, and injuring many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He referenced the latest&nbsp;<strong>report by the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM)<\/strong>, submitted to the&nbsp;<strong>UN Human Rights Council<\/strong>&nbsp;in September, which expressed grave concern over the&nbsp;<strong>increasing scale and brutality of crimes committed by the terrorist military junta<\/strong>, backed by verified evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IIMM has confirmed that the junta\u2019s atrocities constitute&nbsp;<strong>crimes against humanity and war crimes<\/strong>, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun urged&nbsp;<strong>all responsible entities, including the International Criminal Court (ICC)<\/strong>&nbsp;and other relevant judicial mechanisms, to ensure accountability and bring the perpetrators to justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representatives from&nbsp;<strong>over 90 UN member states<\/strong>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<strong>International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)<\/strong>&nbsp;attended the session, during which the Myanmar Ambassador called for concerted international action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also&nbsp;<strong>reiterated the need for the international community and all UN member states to categorically reject the junta\u2019s sham elections<\/strong>, end the military dictatorship, and stand firmly with the people of Myanmar in their struggle to&nbsp;<strong>build a Federal Democratic Union and achieve a peaceful, just future<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>2. Insein Prison Inmates Threatened and Pressured to Cast Advance Votes, Says STUM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>October 15<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Solidarity Trade Unions of Myanmar (STUM)<\/strong>&nbsp;has reported that detainees and prisoners held in&nbsp;<strong>Insein Prison<\/strong>&nbsp;are being&nbsp;<strong>pressured and threatened<\/strong>&nbsp;to cast&nbsp;<strong>advance votes<\/strong>&nbsp;for the military\u2019s upcoming&nbsp;<strong>sham election<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to STUM,&nbsp;<strong>Daw Myo Myo Aye<\/strong>, a leading member of the organization currently detained under the&nbsp;<strong>Unlawful Associations Act<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Penal Code Section 505(a)<\/strong>, was brought before the court on&nbsp;<strong>October 13<\/strong>, where reports emerged that she and other inmates are being coerced to vote in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prison authorities reportedly told the inmates that&nbsp;<strong>refusal to cast advance votes<\/strong>&nbsp;would be&nbsp;<strong>counted as opposition votes<\/strong>, and warned that they would face&nbsp;<strong>lockdowns or additional punishments<\/strong>&nbsp;if they resisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STUM stated that Daw Myo Myo Aye and other imprisoned members are still on trial at the&nbsp;<strong>Shwepyithar Township Court<\/strong>, where witnesses for the prosecution were examined on October 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next hearing for another case filed under the&nbsp;<strong>Association Registration Law<\/strong>&nbsp;has been scheduled for&nbsp;<strong>October 23<\/strong>, according to STUM\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The junta arrested&nbsp;<strong>Daw Myo Myo Aye<\/strong>&nbsp;on the&nbsp;<strong>night of July 25<\/strong>, and subsequently detained&nbsp;<strong>10 other STUM staff members<\/strong>&nbsp;between&nbsp;<strong>July 26 and 28<\/strong>, the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>3.
