Ko Htein Lin, Son of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Says the Military Continues to Commit War Crimes Due to the International Community’s Inaction

October 12

Ko Htein Lin, also known as Kim Aris, the youngest son of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, stated that the Myanmar military continues to commit war crimes and atrocities because it knows the international community has not yet taken clear and decisive action against it.

In expressing his position regarding ASEAN’s ongoing engagement with Myanmar’s military regime, Kim Aris said that the military’s sense of impunity is being reinforced by the lack of accountability from the international community.

He pointed out that ASEAN Chair and Malaysian Prime Minister recently met with coup leader Min Aung Hlaing, even though, not long ago, an airstrike by the junta killed more than 40 civilians during a peaceful religious festival. Frontline sources confirmed that the situation has escalated sharply, with the junta also carrying out frequent air assaults.

Reports indicate that the junta conducted multiple airstrikes on October 9 and 10, while artillery fire was launched from Hpakant Base.

Since June, the junta has been intensifying troop deployments, random shelling, and aerial bombings, leading to over four months of continuous heavy fighting between junta forces and KIA joint forces.
