Some territories may need to be relinquished to defeat the junta’s offensive operations, says NUG Defense Minister U Yee Mon

September 11
Radio NUG

In an interview with PVTV, U Yee Mon, the Defense Minister of the National Unity Government (NUG), stated that in order to effectively counter the terrorist junta’s offensive campaigns, some territories may have to be temporarily given up.

He explained that, backed by support from certain authoritarian neighboring countries, the junta has been waging offensives with psychological warfare strategies. Therefore, while revolutionary forces may sometimes need to withdraw from certain territories to counter the junta’s offensives, they are nonetheless striving to crush the enemy effectively on the battlefield.

He gave specific examples:

“For instance, an important revolutionary force, the TNLA, had to give up Naungcho. Similarly, PDFs in the Mandalay region had to give up Thabeikkyin. But this is not the time to dig in for defensive battles. That is why our forces in towns are moving out to the outskirts. This is now the phase of mobile warfare, counter-striking the enemy.”

U Yee Mon acknowledged difficulties in weapons and ammunition acquisition due to pressure from a major country interfering in domestic affairs. Nevertheless, he highlighted significant progress—revolutionary forces have improved in locally producing weapons and in capturing and using the enemy’s arms. He affirmed:

“We will continue to fight.”

He also declared that the junta’s sham elections would never be accepted, and that the NUG and revolutionary forces would resolutely resist and destroy them through military, political, and people’s means. He emphasized that although the junta seeks to hand over power to its proxy party in order to gain legitimacy, the elections would lack fairness and would not be recognized internationally.

“The majority of the people will clearly oppose this unlawful election of the terrorist junta,” he said.

The Defense Minister further stressed the need for revolutionary forces to unite and carry out reforms:

“In fact, this is the time when the junta is struggling to revive itself. In such a time, we must not be pointing fingers, blaming, or criticizing each other. We must strengthen our advantages and collectively fill our weaknesses as needed.
