Fierce Battles Continue in Bhamo, Says KIA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Information Department<\/strong>&nbsp;announced on the evening of&nbsp;<strong>August 27<\/strong>&nbsp;that heavy clashes have been ongoing in&nbsp;<strong>Bhamo, Kachin State<\/strong>, since&nbsp;<strong>August 24<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>August 24<\/strong>, KIA joint forces seized military council armored vehicles and units from&nbsp;<strong>Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 236<\/strong>. The following day,&nbsp;<strong>August 25<\/strong>, intense fighting broke out again when junta troops used drones to launch attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>August 26<\/strong>, in the afternoon, KIA joint forces engaged junta soldiers advancing from the&nbsp;<strong>Tamailone side of Bhamo<\/strong>, resulting in further clashes that are still continuing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the KIA, battles are taking place&nbsp;<strong>daily<\/strong>&nbsp;in multiple areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>around\u00a0<strong>SAC 21st Military Operations Command<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>near\u00a0<strong>Artillery Battalion 336<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>near the airport, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in several locations inside Bhamo town.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the KIA did not disclose casualty numbers, some local sources reported that junta troops suffered fatalities in Bhamo battles, and their&nbsp;<strong>weapons and ammunition were captured<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>2. Two More People Die from Injuries after Junta Airstrike on Mrauk-U\u2019s Daingkyi Ward<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<strong>Arakan Army (AA) Information Department<\/strong>, two more civilians injured in a&nbsp;<strong>junta airstrike<\/strong>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<strong>Daingkyi Ward, Mrauk-U<\/strong>, have died while receiving medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The military junta launched the aerial bombing attack at around&nbsp;<strong>11:25 PM on August 25<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among those critically wounded,&nbsp;<strong>32-year-old Daw Aye Zandar<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>4-year-old Maung Aung Aung<\/strong>&nbsp;succumbed to their injuries on&nbsp;<strong>August 26 at around 4:30 PM<\/strong>&nbsp;while under medical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airstrike on&nbsp;<strong>August 25<\/strong>&nbsp;targeted Daingkyi Ward, where families were preparing for a donation ceremony. The attack killed&nbsp;<strong>12 civilians on the spot<\/strong>, including&nbsp;<strong>5 children<\/strong>, and injured around&nbsp;<strong>20 others<\/strong>. With the additional deaths of Daw Aye Zandar and Maung Aung Aung, the&nbsp;<strong>death toll has now risen to 14<\/strong>, according to AA records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the same day,&nbsp;<strong>August 25<\/strong>, the junta also carried out airstrikes on civilian neighborhoods in&nbsp;<strong>Mrauk-U, Minbya, and Pauktaw townships<\/strong>. Meanwhile, junta artillery units launched shelling into residential areas of&nbsp;<strong>Ponnagyun town<\/strong>, according to the AA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>3. At Least 36 Junta Soldiers Killed in Repeated Clashes near Kawhlaing Village, Yebyu Township<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF)<\/strong>&nbsp;announced today, August 28, that repeated battles in the&nbsp;<strong>third week of August<\/strong>&nbsp;near&nbsp;<strong>Kawhlaing Village, Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region<\/strong>&nbsp;have left&nbsp;<strong>at least 36 junta soldiers dead<\/strong>&nbsp;and many more wounded, including a&nbsp;<strong>Major from LIB-409<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the MSRF, joint revolutionary forces fought multiple engagements with junta columns advancing near Kawhlaing on&nbsp;<strong>August 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, and 25<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Details of the clashes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>August 19 (6:00 PM):<\/strong>\u00a0A junta column of about\u00a0<strong>150 troops<\/strong>, supported by artillery from\u00a0<strong>LIB-28<\/strong>, was ambushed by\u00a0<strong>MSRF, YGF-2, KBDF-3, Yebyu Force, R.M.A, KNLA Brigade 6 Battalion 27, and KTLA<\/strong>\u00a0between Kawhlaing and Maryan Chaung villages. The battle lasted for about\u00a0<strong>2 hours<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>August 20 (3:42 PM \u2013 5:00 PM):<\/strong>\u00a0Near Kawhlaing and Maryan Chaung,\u00a0<strong>over 80 junta troops from LIB-282<\/strong>\u00a0clashed with joint revolutionary forces. Junta troops eventually retreated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>August 22 (4:00 PM):<\/strong>\u00a0Fighting occurred again near Maryan Chaung when junta forces attempted another advance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>August 23 (12:30 PM):<\/strong>\u00a0Joint revolutionary forces attacked junta troops stationed at\u00a0<strong>Maryan Chaung Monastery<\/strong>, leading to a battle lasting around\u00a0<strong>90 minutes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>August 24:<\/strong>\u00a0Four separate battles broke out in one day as junta forces advanced from Maryan Chaung toward\u00a0<strong>Mile-60 Village<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>August 25 (morning):<\/strong>\u00a0Near\u00a0<strong>Tharyar Mon Village, along Union Road No. 8<\/strong>, another clash took place. Sixteen-Year-Old Child Soldier Defects to People\u2019s Side from Military Battalion No. 2 in Dawei District<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to an announcement released on the evening of&nbsp;<strong>August 27<\/strong>&nbsp;by&nbsp;<strong>Dawei District Battalion No. 2<\/strong>, a&nbsp;<strong>16-year-old newly recruited conscript soldier<\/strong>&nbsp;has defected to the people\u2019s side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defector is identified as&nbsp;<strong>Maung Zinko Ko Ko<\/strong>, a child soldier who had been forcibly recruited into the army. He was previously part of a military column that burned down&nbsp;<strong>Sawphya Village<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Moeshwe Gone Village<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Tharyar Chaung Township<\/strong>, Tanintharyi Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He revealed that he was abducted during school holidays while working in paddy fields. On his way home, he was stopped by two soldiers, forcibly taken, and enrolled in the&nbsp;<strong>first phase of basic military training<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to his testimony, before entering the villages, the column commander ordered the soldiers to&nbsp;<strong>clear villages by shelling with heavy and light weapons<\/strong>, and later instructed younger recruits under his command to&nbsp;<strong>burn down entire villages<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He further explained that when the column moved from one village to another, they stayed overnight in a&nbsp;<strong>two-story monastery<\/strong>, which the military later ordered to be bombed using drones. He also admitted that when villagers fled, the soldiers&nbsp;<strong>looted abandoned houses and shops<\/strong>, stealing valuables and expensive goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maung Zinko Ko Ko stated that during his training and after graduation, he had thought about escaping. However, officers and instructors threatened recruits with propaganda, saying that anyone who defected to the PDFs would be&nbsp;<strong>beheaded or slaughtered<\/strong>. He confessed that most recruits\u2014including himself\u2014believed these threats at first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reality, he said, the&nbsp;<strong>PDFs welcomed him kindly and protected him<\/strong>, ensuring his safety. He urged other conscripts, soldiers, and officers who want to defect to join the people\u2019s side&nbsp;<strong>without delay<\/strong>, emphasizing that they will be protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dawei District Battalion No. 2 also reassured that&nbsp;<strong>young people who have been forcibly conscripted into the terrorist junta\u2019s army<\/strong>\u2014where they suffer abuse and oppression\u2014can defect at any time and place, and their&nbsp;<strong>lives and safety will be guaranteed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>5.
