Yangon Parliament\u2019s Ninth Session Approves Expansion of Yangon Federal Unit Interim Charter Drafting Commission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Ninth Session of the Yangon Parliament, the assembly approved the expansion of membership within the Yangon Federal Unit Interim Charter Drafting Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ninth Session of the Yangon Parliament was convened on Thursday, August 28, 2025, corresponding to Myanmar Era 1387, Tawthalin waxing moon day 6, at 9:00 AM via a video conferencing system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the session, the parliament approved the inclusion of new members into the Interim Charter Drafting Commission of the Yangon Federal Unit. The expanded membership consists of&nbsp;<strong>11 representatives<\/strong>, nominated by various groups, namely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>3 from the Committee Representing CDM Activities,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 from the Ground Revolutionary Forces Coordination Group,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 from the Democracy Forces and Public Strike Movement Coordination Group,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 from the Women, Youth, Ethnic Minorities and Civil Society Coordination Group,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5 from the Professionals and Experts Group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the session also approved the reformation of the Yangon Parliament Representative Committee with 17 members, and the Yangon Parliament Legislative Drafting Committee with 7 members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>2. Over 50 Civil Society Organizations Urge Taiwan Government Not to Deport Myanmar Nationals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<em>Blood Money Campaign<\/em>, a coalition of&nbsp;<strong>51 civil society organizations<\/strong>&nbsp;has sent an open letter urging the Taiwan government to immediately halt the forced deportation of Myanmar nationals who fled for political reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter warns that those deported face a high risk of&nbsp;<strong>extrajudicial killings, torture, ill-treatment, and degrading treatment<\/strong>&nbsp;that violates their human dignity. It emphasizes that forced deportation by any government, disregarding the dangers faced by Myanmar citizens, amounts to a breach of international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CSOs strongly called on the Taiwan government\u2014particularly the National Immigration Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs\u2014to provide&nbsp;<strong>protection and asylum<\/strong>&nbsp;for Myanmar escapees to prevent their persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter also reminded Taiwan of its commitments under international conventions, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the\u00a0<strong>International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the\u00a0<strong>International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>urging full compliance with these obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Blood Money Campaign<\/em>&nbsp;pointed out that the Myanmar junta, which has suffered major military setbacks, is forcibly conscripting youths as soldiers. Among those deported back to Myanmar,&nbsp;<strong>large numbers of young returnees have been forcibly recruited and used as frontline soldiers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Records further indicate that governments of&nbsp;<strong>Malaysia and Thailand<\/strong>&nbsp;have also deported Myanmar nationals, handing them over to the junta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>3. Singapore-Based Ben Line Agencies Implicated in International Crimes of Myanmar Military Junta<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Blood Money Campaign<\/em>&nbsp;has revealed that&nbsp;<strong>Ben Line Agencies<\/strong>, a Singapore-based shipping and logistics company, is complicit in the international crimes of the Myanmar military junta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBen Line Agencies, though internationally recognized as a legitimate global shipping and maritime services provider, has been assisting the junta by enabling the continued flow of revenues from natural gas operations and by providing critical support through which it profits substantially. In Myanmar, the company provides shipping services, offshore logistics, and support for oil and gas exploration projects,\u201d the statement explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Findings from&nbsp;<em>Justice For Myanmar<\/em>&nbsp;indicate that Ben Line Agencies, through its branch office in Kyaukphyu, Rakhine State, directly provides services to international oil companies involved in the Shwe Gas Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By servicing the Shwe Gas Project, Ben Line Agencies is accused of&nbsp;<strong>covertly strengthening the junta\u2019s grip on power<\/strong>&nbsp;and being directly complicit in the regime\u2019s international crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite calls for accountability and transparency regarding its involvement, Ben Line Agencies has not provided any response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>4. Thailand Ministry of Education Announces All Children, Including Those Without Documentation, Allowed to Attend Schools<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Thai Ministry of Education has officially announced that&nbsp;<strong>children without documentation<\/strong>&nbsp;will also be allowed to attend schools in Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This directive, issued on&nbsp;<strong>August 26<\/strong>, extends coverage to children of Myanmar migrant workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The directive instructs all schools to accept undocumented children for enrollment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, enrollment in Thai schools required&nbsp;<strong>a Thai birth certificate, parental identification documents,<\/strong>&nbsp;and compliance with school-specific criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the Thai government has also permitted&nbsp;<strong>Myanmar refugees from camps to work legally<\/strong>&nbsp;under a quota-based system, a move welcomed by the&nbsp;<strong>UNHCR office in Thailand<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>5. Ta\u2019ang Township Police Arrest Woman for Drug Trafficking in Mantong<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<strong>PSLF\/TNLA News and Information Department<\/strong>, police in Ta\u2019ang Township have arrested a woman involved in drug trafficking in&nbsp;<strong>Seikaw Village, Mantong Township, Namhsan District<\/strong>, under the jurisdiction of Ta\u2019ang Military Region-5 in Northern Shan State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>August 23 at around 8:00 AM<\/strong>, police from Ta\u2019ang Township entered and searched the house of&nbsp;<strong>45-year-old Daw Aye Saung<\/strong>&nbsp;in Seikaw Village.
