The National Unity Government (NUG), in response, strongly condemned the military’s actions and declared its solidarity with the suffering Rohingya community. NUG reiterated in its statement that it continues to stand firmly and steadfastly alongside the Rohingya in the pursuit of justice.

The statement recalled that, as a result of these atrocities, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya were forced to flee to Bangladesh and, to this day, have not been able to return to their homeland. The NUG expressed deep concern and dissatisfaction over this continuing displacement.

At a time when the people of Myanmar are waging the Spring Revolution to resist and dismantle the terrorist military dictatorship, NUG stressed the necessity of eradicating the regime at its roots in order to ensure human rights and justice for all people, including the Rohingya.

NUG reaffirmed its declared Policy on the Rohingya, stating that in accordance with this policy, it stands in unity with the Rohingya people.

It also expressed concern over the continuing displacement of Rohingya populations, while affirming that the people of Myanmar are devoting their full strength, wisdom, and efforts toward the liberation of the entire nation from the oppression of dictatorship. This position was declared on the solemn 8th anniversary of the Rohingya people’s experience of brutal violence.

========================

📌📌 2. Based on the meeting’s resolution, (13) officials—including the head of the Kan Ni Township People’s Administration—were ordered to be arrested and investigated for suspected misuse of public funds.

In line with these instructions, the Ministry of Defense’s Yin Mar Bin District Command Group carried out the arrests on August 24, in accordance with prescribed procedures for detention and prosecution, including prevention of escape.

========================

📌📌 3. Today, we remember the lives lost to these horrific military atrocities, the families torn apart, the devastated communities, and the people whose lives continue to bear deep scars. Those communities are still suffering the severe consequences of those brutal crimes even to this day,” he said.

Jackson also highlighted that, across Myanmar, civilians continue to face hardship from ongoing conflicts, particularly in Rakhine State, where humanitarian and food crises have worsened significantly.

He further stated:
“The UK Government’s commitment to the protection of Rohingya communities remains steadfast. Rare Earth Mining in Eastern Shan State’s NDAA Territory Expands Rapidly, Minerals Extracted and Exported to China

August 25
Radio NUG

The Shan Human Rights Foundation reported that within the territory controlled by the National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA), also known as the “Mong La” group, near the Mekong River in eastern Shan State, rare earth mines have expanded dramatically over the past four years.

Satellite images taken in May 2025 revealed as many as 19 mining sites in Mong Yawn Township. In 2021, only three mines existed in the area; today, 16 are operational while the remaining three are still under construction.

A representative of the Shan Human Rights Foundation said:
“All the profits from these rare earth mines go directly to China. The local people gain absolutely nothing from them.”

The Mong Yawn mines are located less than 40 kilometers from the Mekong River, where the in-situ leaching method is being used to extract rare earth minerals. This method employs chemically filled circular tanks and pipelines to dissolve and recover the minerals underground.

Most of the mines are situated in mountainous terrain, 4,000–5,000 feet above sea level, only about 4 kilometers from the Chinese border. Water from these sites flows into the Nam Hka stream, which then feeds into the Lwe River, and subsequently merges with the Mekong River near Sop Lwe, close to Long Nam Tha District in Laos.

The Shan Human Rights Foundation emphasized:
“These mines are creating benefits for China, while China in turn provides support to the military council. Indirectly, that means these rare earth mines are empowering the junta. Therefore, we are calling for an immediate halt to the mining operations.”

On August 7, it was learned that U Aung Aung, the junta-appointed Shan State Minister, together with Major General Soe Hlaing, commander of the Triangle Region Military Headquarters, visited Mong La to meet NDAA leaders.
